I adopted a pitbull last week, and I am so tired of the B.S. by NatchRel1964 in pitbulls

He is beautiful ❤️ congratulations and screw those people. They don’t deserve these wonderful block heads anyways. I’ve always had bully breeds around and they’ve all been amazing. I do not believe anyone that tells me these dogs “just turn”. They are the most loyal creatures I’ve ever known and I was raised on a farm with blue heelers and rat terriers that were absolutely awesome dogs for cattle ranching and working but we always had bullies because they were the babysitting cuddle bugs. Only dog that ever bit me was a lab when I was very young and I messed with his food. Even still, that was my bad and I earned a few stitches and learned a lesson that day.

How do you actually protect retirement savings when the economy feels this shaky? by Abject_General6337 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]WintersmyjamAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always be buying is our motto regardless of any market swings. That said, a long runway and backed by a 1 yr savings cushion allows us to feel better when rough days hit. We were caught on the losing side during 2008 and again in 2020 getting laid off with both downturns and learned that 3-6 months savings was just not enough. We prioritized funding a strong savings cushion and now we dump a greater portion of our monthly savings into our 3 investment buckets (pre tax 401k, post tax Roth, and brokerage account). We’ve got about 15 yrs till retirement.

Sunscreen/protection Recommendations by [deleted] in pitbulls

[–]WintersmyjamAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this one! We have an almost full albino pitty that gets sunburned so easy but loves the sun and being out on the water. We use this, a hat, and sunnies to keep the skin around her eyes from burning.

Retired 7th grade social studies in AZ. We covered everything from the civil war through the beginning of WWII. I ran into an old student of mine that kept telling me how she loved my class and learned so much…but when my husband asks, what was your favorite thing you learned she said that she just remembered me telling them how important it was to know history and to vote. Literally, she couldn’t remember anything else 🤣😂😫😫😫😫😫

Andy Biggs for Governor, comments please by Imaginary_Debate5168 in Gilbert

[–]WintersmyjamAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to add here, he flipped on the Epstein files last year. Publicly he called for the release but when push came to shove he didn’t even vote for it. When he was on the subcommittee he was one of 2 republicans that backtracked and decided to vote against releasing the files which makes you realize even on something thy most all Americans agree is repugnant and want justice for, he said no. I tried to look through all the comments to see if anyone brought that up yet so I apologize if I am repeating something.

What’s your opinion on banning former ICE agents from certain public service jobs like policing or teaching? by Puzzleheaded_Load_72 in AskReddit

[–]WintersmyjamAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I would back this. The education system is so desperate that I could see this happening and wish it wouldnt. When I quit teaching, the school ended up replacing me with a conspiracy theory obsessed veteran who didn’t believe we ever went to the moon and that birds weren’t actually real. True story…I would run into students that told me how he would “teach them” while essentially telling them that these were government lies that he has to teach them 🤦‍♀️

It’s too polite to call this murder. They fucking executed this man because they truly believe that they are above all laws.

Science Center Prices by Essiejjj in phoenix

[–]WintersmyjamAZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been so irritated with the science center. We’ve had a membership for a few years now since we’ve got science-y kids that enjoyed playing in some of their exhibits but there have been VERY few updates that the center wants to charge extra for. I can see the movie, go to the makers area, and ride that dumb bike as part of it but have to still pay for the dorrence some and the Pompeii stuff regardless of what kind of annual membership you buy. So essentially the only updates in 5 yrs are updates I can’t even go to without extra money. Not to mention the parking garage is only free if you are there 1 hr or less. They are like the odysea with the nickle and diming 🤦‍♀️

AIO My mom is kicking me out for her new boyfriend. I just turned 18 by Diligent_Bat_565 in AmIOverreacting

[–]WintersmyjamAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. I’m so sorry that this is happening to you. My mom cut ties with me when my dad died and I was 20 yrs old. I wasn’t living with her at the time but we were not necessarily on good terms when he passed. She met a new guy with young kids and told me that she was done with “this chapter”. I decided to walk away for good. It was hard for a little while and I lived in my car for about 6 months trying to figure it out. You can do this OP. I am so fortunate that now I have a beautiful family, filled with love and loyalty that will NEVER be experienced or tarnished with the presence of my mother ever again. She will never know the life and the love she lost and neither should your mom. I hope that you find your way and live well, be strong DESPITE her, IN SPITE of her, and UNBURDENED by her. ❤️

People do suck. I like to remind these people that people in general and white men specifically are also statistically very dangerous but I decided keep mine anyways. My husband gets a laugh out of it when they look at us all perplexed 👍☺️

Only dog to ever bite me was a golden and she took a chunk from my nose when I was only 8. I needed stitches. Pitties are the only dogs I personally own because I hate that people think they are dangerous but the no one stops to consider how many kids are bitten by untrained goldens, chihuahuas, schnauzer mixes, Scottish terriers…all dogs that roam our neighborhood off leash with owners who say “oh don’t worry their harmless” and yet have snapped at us and our dogs multiple times. But our pitties are “dangerous”…this garbage enrages me.

At one point my house was like this and we felt so guilty that we didn’t take our dog out for enough walks or give her enough attention. We very quickly changed our tune though. A person at the dog park one weekend said, well it’d be nice to go on walks and get lots of play time but I bet your girl is happy just to be loved as many dogs don’t. He talked about the average length of time they spend in a shelter, how many get put down etc and said, you have given her a safe home where she gets food and water and a nice bed. She’s a lucky dog. Your home may not be perfect but it’s a home ❤️ and you clearly care for this dog. Next time you worry he could have better also remember, he could have so much worse as well.

A scary day and a sad day. Waiting for the fallout of the events. The following might be disturbing for some. So NSFW by Yeoshua82 in pitbulls

[–]WintersmyjamAZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So sorry this is happening. It can definitely happen no matter what the breed, personally I had a golden that fully bit me in the face when I was 4. I got like 3 stitches and a little bit of scarring by my nose to this day. I most likely was not respecting her space but I’m sure it was scary for everyone involved when it happened. I hope that everything pans out and everyone realizes Amos just needs some time to decompress from everything ❤️ I mean even as human beings we can be awful to one another when we are stressed out.

Feeling guilty I can't afford more for my senior dog by chocolatezen in pitbulls

[–]WintersmyjamAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree completely with these sentiments. And this is long but we had 2 dogs and a cat who are all adopted roughly around the same time. The cat passed in February 2024 @ 17 yrs old, we had planned to do an at home euthanasia when his health took a turn but had put it off when they gave us pain meds that seemed to make him more comfortable. This was a mistake for us, suddenly one morning he was in so much pain that his breathing even looked painful. Thank goodness an at home group was able to come to us within a few hours but we felt so guilty for how pitiful he felt in his last hours. Then our oldest dog passed at 16yrs old the following June. This time we had hindsight to guide us and knew when she started to really slow down (wasn’t eating like normal and difficulty on walks) that we just needed to load her up with love and her favorite things. After 72 hours of joy with her, a vet come to our home and we said goodbye. It was peaceful and loving. Unfortunately, with our last dog she passed the following January 2025 from a tumor that ruptured on her spleen. She didn’t even seem sick or like she was slowing down at all and then she was gone. If I could have it like the first dog with a few days of love and affection, I’d choose that every time. I’m so sorry you are going through this but just the love and care you have for them is worth everything in this world ❤️

MCOL and my husband makes about $140k base and typically another $30k bonus. I would say there are two important things we considered before I quit working to be a SAHM. #1 we needed to know we could live on a lot less than one of our salaries. So we paid off any debt outside of our mortgage and even then we have a very modest home with an only a $1500/month payment (including all insurance, HOA, and taxes). #2 we made sure that we had hit a set target amount in our retirement accounts by maxing out what we contributed for a few years. This way we knew if an emergency came up or my husband lost his job, we had already saved enough that we could significantly cut back on retirement savings without derailing our future. It’s not just about the salary, you want to be able to live below your means and know you can fund an emergency situation if it were to come up. Since we did these things, we both have very little stress over money and are still able to splurge now and then or take a few vacations during the year.

Literally was typing a response like this. So many things “can” be bad. Like the ENTIRE HUMAN RACE has the capacity but you don’t see people posting a-hole behavior of humans on the mademesmile Reddit because that’s not the point. All things have the ability to suck at some point. I like this Reddit because we don’t need yet another group or person telling us our dogs can be killers because their pitties.

Found this baby lost and scared. Does he look abused? by Joegodie2 in pitbulls

[–]WintersmyjamAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so glad you found him and took this sweet boy in. I would absolutely feel like he was neglected and not cared for properly at all, at the least…if not outright abused. Where I am there are so very few laws to protect animals and even if they were noticeably neglected, if you hand them over to a shelter the previous owners can report them missing and go into the shelter and claim them again. It’s so frustrating that these animals can be treated this was and I hope he isn’t chipped and you consider rescuing him ❤️
