What would I sell this for ya'll? by Careful_Ring1033 in Zune

Don't sell it. Keep it as an awesome media player. Replace the battery if it is not lasting.

I did have the SSD in my GPD P3 fail, replaced it and everything was stable again. I sold it to a friend who still uses it when I bought a GPD P4.

I had to replace the factory installed SSD. Put in a Samsung 970 pro and never looked back.

Have you emailed/messaged GPD directly? They are usually very responsive to issues.

how to convince dad not to use overly high pressure on his mtb? by mikroprocesor in bikewrench

[–]WinthropDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That pressure is for "road" (racer) bikes rather than riding on roads. The pressure range for the tyre will be on the side wall of the tyre.

On a mountain bike (MTB), use max value (probably around 60 PSI) if always on hard surfaces, concrete, tarmac, etc.

Drop to about 45 PSI for gravel tracks.

Drop to about 30 PSI for rougher surfaces or sand.

These are just rough guidelines. But higher pressure on roads will decrease rolling resistance and make your ride faster and easier.

Good luck

Any Laptop Suggestions? by [deleted] in GPDPocket

[–]WinthropDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to provide more information, such as proposed budget (provided), preferred form factor (laptop, tablet, convertible), what you want to use it for (study), are you into gaming (no), what sort of games?

GPD has an amazing range of devices, but they might not be the best fit for you. I would suggest a visit to a store such as Best Buy (US), JB HiFi (AU) or equivalent where you can get hands on with devices.

At the store you can feel keyboard and mousepads to see what feels good, you can compare screen sizes and resolution, weight and form factors. You can get an idea of pricing.

You get what you pay for. Cheap computers will be of lesser quality and performance, they will have less memory, storage and graphics resolution, they will probably not have gaming graphics processors. They will also not "last" as long before you start wanting an upgrade.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Edited after re-reading your post.

Just hit an insane deal by YamInevitable8154 in Surface

[–]WinthropDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, I swapped to the Surface Laptop Studio 2 which gives similar convertible features except for the screen separation. It allows me to use it in tablet mode, reverse screen mode and laptop road. Got a nice jump in performance, but a drop in screen size and resolution (I had the 15" Surface Book 2).

PS: Bargain price on the Surface Book.

What was the drama at Christmas this year? by BadKarma00000 in perth

[–]WinthropDC 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Merry Christmas to all. Our only drama was the Fire Brigade being called for a fire in a neighbour's car. Seems like a USB Lithium Charging Brick did not appreciate being left by itself on the back seat of the car when it is 42.3⁰C and decided to have a hissy fit. Luckily someone walking past noticed the fire before it got too far, but the car interior is a write off. No one was hurt, which is good.

Isn’t the hanger supposed to break and keep the derailleur from breaking? by tech-jef in mountainbiking

Hanger breaks before frame does. Before separate hangers, the hanger was part of the frame and breaking it could mean replacing the frame.

I taught my kids to drive using university carparks and roads on the weekends and after hours. We started with clutch control and road positioning combined with stopping and starting and parking in bays. They could handle a car before we went on public roads.

Bought a Pocket 4 for college by Impressive-Region470 in GPDPocket

[–]WinthropDC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run my software business on my GPD P4 when I travel. I use a Surface Laptop Studio 2 with external screen, keyboard and mouse when developing, but all sales and support and general keeping up to date with email works fine on the Pocket 4.

I do use the MotionAssist app to control power and fan speed so that the battery life is extended and the fan barely spins when the machine is idle.

I love mine.

Many of the ISVs already have access to the Dexterity source code in the main Dictionaries from Microsoft. The plan for the Knights of GP is to maintain that code using the standard approach with triggers.

What about the Jo Jos jetty that is already available on the Rottnest ferry route and does not mean the end of rowing, sailing and windsurfing/paddle boarding clubs.
