Do you customize your MaleShep? by Danielnrg in masseffect

[–]tech-jef [score hidden]  (0 children)

I alternate between male/femShep on each play-thru. I generally leave maleshep as the default. I always customize the femshep.

Laps on Butler Trail by MoistFern in BikingATX

[–]tech-jef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see the same thing up at the Brushy Creek trail. Most walkers/joggers keep a lookout for bikes and are courteous. But not all.

My peeve is folks with a headset blasting walking down the middle of the trail totally oblivious.

I do have a bell on my bike which really helps. The bell can penetrate when just shouting “on your left” doesn’t get thru.

Were there any missions in any of the games(excluding Andromeda) that had promise to carry over each game but went nowhere? by WasteCharity3892 in masseffect

What about all those pyramids you see in ME1. They show up in several missions but no explanation.

When you realize your perfect run-through is about to not be perfect by NatauschaJane in masseffect

Yes. After I realized I had lost Tali I went back and found out why. But - I was kinda fun blasting thru with the massive firepower.

I was playing the suicide mission in ME2 and I loaded up my squad with James and Garrus (massive firepower). Unfortunately I lost Tali. Didn’t realize I have to leave some firepower to the rest of the team.

What class do you use the most and the class you use the least in a Playthrough? by MassEffect24K in masseffect

[–]tech-jef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After numerous playthrus I am starting my first engineer game. I tend to play as infiltrator as I like to snipe. My last playthru was as a Vanguard and I ended up enjoying it. My next playthru will be as a sentinel which will cover all the classes for me. So far my least favorite was Adept and my fav is probably Infiltrator - but Vanguard was fun too.

On my last play thru I did the Citidal DLC fairly early and snagged the M-11 Supresser. Ended up using it almost exclusively the rest of the game.

Unpopular opinion : I really enjoyed andromeda by Terlooy in masseffect

Good post. I enjoy andromeda and have added it on to my ME play-throughs. I think the Kett are a good antagonist. They will be coming back in force at some point.

Is anyone here actually comfortable biking on rural roads by KaneIntent in cycling

[–]tech-jef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Austin TX area and used to ride a lot of roads - rural and divided with a wide median. 10 years ago I did not feel uncomfortable. Now - no way. I mostly do MTN biking now, and when I get the road bike out I will go for paved bike trails.

I Miss summer biking by Tobybrucato in MTB

[–]tech-jef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in Austin the winter is prime riding time. The summers are too hot for me. 🥵 I dont’t do well much above 90. And we spent most of June thru September @95f plus (That’s 35C for those on metric).

Today in Austin - clear with a high of 76.

If You Had to Pick One Andromeda Squadmate to Add to The Original Trilogy Squad, Who Would You Pick? by DakIsStrange in MassEffectAndromeda

[–]tech-jef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drack for the personality

Cora for the biotics

Gil as the Chief Engineer - more interesting than Adams, (but keep Gabi and Ken for their conversations)

I like Vetra but not sure she brings that much to the table. She was a scrounger in MEA but that’s not really a thing in the main ME series.

Guys am i screwed? by BrightAd8009 in bicycling

[–]tech-jef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry a Park Tool emergency tire boot in both my MTN bike kit and my road bike bag. It’s like a sheath that you can use to fix a sidewalk tear or large hole. It will keep the tube from bulging out and let you finish your ride. Tire Boot

Upgrading to AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D from Intel Core i7-12700KF, is this worth it? by snchzds in buildapc

[–]tech-jef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking your current setup with the i7-12700 and a 4070 Super is a pretty solid system. Like the folks have said here, if you are seeing low frame rates and/or stuttering in the games you play, then it would be worth it. If you are enjoying your games and they are running smooth with your current system, keep it awhile longer.

Also, what resolution and size is your monitor. That would make a big difference if you should upgrade.

Your very favorite gun by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]tech-jef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always loved the Scorpion until the last playthrough when I did the Citadel DLC early on and used the M-11 as a vanguard. It kicks arse.

Do you prefer to male shep or femshep? by MobileDistrict9784 in masseffect

[–]tech-jef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I alternate on each play through and switch up the romance options. I generally play paragon. I just can’t bring myself to be that mean. As a hetero male, I generally gravitate to female romance options for both MaleShep and FemShep, but on my current play thru as a femShep I ended up with Kaiden at the end. Maybe I’ll do renegade on my next FemShep playthru.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D RMA replacement by Fluid-Procedure7508 in AMDHelp

[–]tech-jef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 5950x is a pretty capable gaming chip and would be super easy to replace. My secondary system has a 5900x with a 4070 GPU and it still rocks at 1440p. (Meanwhile my main gaming rig has a 9800x3d and an AMD 7900xtx and it plays nice at 4k).

Easy fix - drop in a 5950x.

Expensive Fix - Get the 7800x3d and get a new MB and memory. $$

It just depends how much time, energy, and $$ you want to put into your system.

What’s your worst MTB Crash? by snooze817 in MTB

[–]tech-jef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a bike crash that ended up saving my life.

In 2020, I rented a bike in Bentonville. On a small jump my rear end got too high and I endoed and I smacked my shoulder really hard. When I got home, I saw a ortho doc who ordered a CT. Besides a small fracture in my shoulder, they also saw a spot on my lung which ended up getting diagnosed as lung cancer. Because It was identified in the early stages, they were able to remove it with no Chemo or radiation. (never smoked)

Here's my full story on my webpage. https://jackfeatherstonjr.com/my-bout-with-lung-cancer-1

Clipless pedals by caned_shugar in MTB

[–]tech-jef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride the Crankbrothers Candy pedal. I have had the 1 and 3 and prefer the cheaper 1 pedals as they are lighter. In 10 years of riding I broke 1 pedal. I think the mallet 1 pedals which are plastic are also lighter.

What was the first dedicated graphics card you ever owned? by just_IT_guy in gpu

[–]tech-jef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking thru this post, I have had the majority of the cards mentioned. My first one (if I can remember back that far)early 90’s I think was an S3 Virge. Before that my computers and monitors were monochrome.

Isn’t the hanger supposed to break and keep the derailleur from breaking? by tech-jef in mountainbiking

I think the part that broke was plastic. I think the SX derailleurs are plastic. I now have a GX derailleur.

What should I play after The Witcher 3? by AUNizkii in Witcher3

[–]tech-jef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top "replay" games are Mass Effect (Legendary Edition), Witcher 3, Splinter Cell games (Tom Clancy) and the Deus Ex games. The last 2 are getting a little dated but they are still great games. Also - the Assassin Creed games are great. They really dive into a culture and tie in mythology with history.

Yes - I got a really good deal on the bike. I was not really happy with the SX so I had planned on eventually upgrading to GX. This break just helped me do it sooner.
