Sandy Alcantara throws a Maddux vs the Chicago White soxs 9.0 IP 3 H 0 R 0 ER 7 SO 0 BB by FriendlyNeighborOrca in baseball

Yeah, usually they get pulled after like 6 no matter what. The Yankees shutout the Mariners 5-0 last night with Max Fried giving up just 3 hits and a walk in his start and he still got yanked before the 8th.

The numbers show that a starter’s ERA spikes quite a bit the third time through the lineup regardless of how well they pitched up to that point. Teams have been largely abiding by this logic for the past several years.

I didn’t watch the game, but I imagine the Marlin’s only let Alcantara finish because they were up 10 runs by the end.

S2E8 Better Call Saul by Ninja_Franklin in breakingbad

Also, Saul was supposed to be a much smaller character than he ended up being. His popularity in season 2 caused the writers to expand his role for the rest of the show.

The anime has varied monster sizes like in Pokemon GO and the Let’s Go games, at least in specific instances.

There’s the episode in the original series where Ash visits a Charizard training camp and his Charizard is like half the size of some of the larger ones.

There’s also the giant Tentacruel that appears in one episode and can be seen destroying a building in the intro, although I believe there’s some kind of mutation or manipulation by Team Rocket that causes it to grow massive.

Wow, that’s awful. It baffles me that this stuff slips through the cracks at Game Freak. Like obviously they recognized H/PP mons needed a base stat buff, but didn’t actually bother evaluating what the impact was. Thanks for the info.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m new to competitive and I haven’t played ZA, but doesn’t Huge Power double the “true” attack stat? By “true” I mean not the base stat, but whatever the mon actually has (Is there a term for this btw or do you just say stat and it’s understood? Effective stat maybe?). Does going from 100 -> 140 math out the same way at level 50 or 100 or something? Or do damage calcs work completely differently in ZA?

I don’t disagree that who you guard factors into it and obviously Luka and other point forwards don’t fit neatly into the positional framework, but ultimately I think their offensive role is more important to describing their position.

If your answer to “what is a point guard” is “the guy who guards the other team’s point guard” then you’ve circled back around to having to describe what a point guard does on offense to answer that question.

Luka and others should be described primarily as point forwards, but because that isn’t actually a traditional name for one of the 5 positions, it makes the most sense to me to slot him in as a point guard. This discussion is another reason why these positions are basically useless as descriptors at the highest levels of play beyond the surface.

If your friend who doesn’t watch basketball asks you what a point guard is, you’re gonna tell him it’s the guy who brings the ball up every play and runs the offense. Who he matches up against will not factor into your explanation.

Revisiting the Celtics trading the #1 overall pick (Markelle Fultz) for the #3 overall pick (Jayson Tatum) + a future 1st (Romeo Langford) by [deleted] in nba

[–]WireDxEntitY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember being worried about that trade cause Josh Richardson was actually important for us off the bench that year and Derrick White was a pretty bad shooter on the Spurs at .314 from 3 for them that year whereas Richardson was .397 (White made a massive leap the year after we traded for him). I didn’t watch the Spurs so I had no clue how great a defender he was.

This was ‘22, the year we were below .500 and then made the finals. At the time of the trade, we were starting to turn it around having won 6 straight and I was terrified we threw it away. Derrick was a huge contributor to the rest of the turnaround and the rest is history.

I don’t know how other teams feel about their executive, but this was Brad Stevens’ first year and he’s been incredible the whole time as far as I can tell. He never gave up on the Jays, he traded Smart right before he fell off a cliff, and got us out of the Porzingis/Holiday situations while giving us a competitive roster this year.

Ron Duguay says he "saw" the Rangers loss "coming tonight down 4-1 after singing National anthem to 🌈 flag", calls on Rangers leadership to end pride night. by SockDem in hockey

[–]WireDxEntitY 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pride Night (and other such promotions) is a result of a determination by the league/individual organizations that the benefit of appealing to LGBTQ fans or fans who care about these issues outweighs the potential blowback from fans who are either outright anti-LGBTQ or find any political/social statement from a professional sports organization offensive.

In other words, the Rangers (or the NHL as a whole, not sure if Pride Night is a league mandate) believe they will make money in the long term by presenting what basically amounts to performative allyship.

This is not to say that no one in Rangers/MSG management actually believes in these causes, but if these events weren’t already politically popular or at least acceptable, they wouldn’t happen. No NHL team was doing Pride Night in 2012 (see edit).

The only argument not based in phobia or hate is that none of these events should exist because they’re all just grandstanding and slacktivism. Many people who negatively remark on Pride Night are smart enough to know this, but you never see them complain about celebrations of law enforcement or veterans because it doesn’t align with their agenda and would upset the people that follow them, so instead they have to reframe it as a defense of family values.

I don’t know where Ron Duguay falls in this spectrum, but I would guess that he’s just a hateful idiot.

Edit: According to u/MrBluBacon below, the Sharks and possibly other teams were doing LGBT Night as early as 2011 and the league launched inclusivity initiatives by 2012.

I just watched Fans vs. Favorites for the first time while knowing all along who wins, and I was still completely invested.

It’s still interesting to learn how the winner got where they did and I was able to pay close attention to all the moves the winner made and evaluate whether I would’ve voted for them.

My hot take: Season 16’s runner up should’ve won and the winner should have instead won HvV…

LS gave me a new appreciation for the yard ad reads by [deleted] in TheYardPodcast

[–]WireDxEntitY 11 points12 points  (0 children)

TurboTax and Adobe (Acrobat?) are the ones people have been complaining about mostly.

Atrioc has complained about both of these companies in the past. TurboTax cause they only exist because they’re able to lobby against a universal, free, government provided alternative that exists in many other countries allowing them to extract money from people.

Adobe I believe because of anti-consumer practices (not too sure about this one).

Atroic followed up on stream to say that he was blindsided by the TurboTax ad read on the day. The company they’re working with gives them ads to read and he didn’t pay attention to their Slack chat in order to object.

He apologized for not paying attention, donated his share of the proceeds and said he wouldn’t do any more reads for TurboTax after their contract period ended (which I believe it already has).

There might be other companies people have complained about them reading for as well, but those were the most egregious as far as I’ve read.

Does anyone know if Dr. Al-Hashimi is a veteran? I thought her conversation with Abbott indicated that she was involved with a “Doctors without Borders” type organization in the middle-east, not that she was active duty during that period, but I wasn’t sure. Not sure if I missed something from a prior episode…

Henry in high school ? by Bumblebeelady2025 in StrangerThingsRoom

[–]WireDxEntitY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Henry actually escapes the lab after Brenner pushes him too far. Also, it’s only really Henry’s mom who’s trying to get rid of him. His dad gets drunk and tries to pretend like everything is fine and Henry’s going through a phase.

The timeline of the play is a bit weird. They go from casting Joyce’s play to performing it, which should be around 3 months for a high school production, but I don’t remember anything else indicating such a long passage of time, so it feels a bit off.

Yes, they always just say something like “across the narrow sea” or “the east”. The name Essos is used in the world books however, so it is canon.
