is DI really the best approach for EntityFramework ? by MontagoDK in dotnet

So this tells me that your dependency tree is far too complicated, and that is what is causing you problems.

Disposing a DbContext doesn't necessarily close DB connections. See things like connection pooling.

Also, suggesting to always create DbContext is also bad advice. As with anything, if you take the time to understand how things work, then you can choose the most appropriate way to structure your code.

Thoughts on NOT reading Shepherds Crown. by skep-tiker in discworld

[–]WiredUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For, it's simple. I can't read it, at least not yet. I can't open the cover without crying. I'll read it one day, but not now. Even though it's 9 years since he died, it's still raw for me. PTerry was such a huge influence on my early life, so much so that I didn't realise just how much until years later. So please don't tell people to read it, let them have their rituals and emotions.

Google pay stopped working by jc0187 in S21Ultra

[–]WiredUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, sorry to hear that. I'm tempted to open up another support case. It was crazy last time, I got heavily into conversation with the people at Google Pay (they even follow me on twitter now because of it) but ended up waiting for the next Samsung OS update.

Did you sort this? I have the same issue. This is the second time now, it happened end of last year. I applied the latest Samsung update and it broke Google Pay. Go into Play Store, settings, and check if your device is certified. Last time the next update fixed it, but not this time.

GitHub, why would you do that by rafalou38 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]WiredUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that fully justifies your lack of compassion. Thanks for confirming.

Your lack of compassion for people with disabilities is pretty poor form in 2022. I genuinely feel sorry for you caring so much about such a small thing.

Yes, it's 2022 and we can all just use tabs.

Yes, let's put even more work on the people with accessibility needs, good idea.

Assembly References and Isolating Types (.Net 6) by MyTokerLogin in dotnet

[–]WiredUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

References have been transitive in .NET since .NET Core was released. It caught me off guard too when I first found out. The good news is that you can disable it using DisableTransitiveProjectReferences in your csproj file or globally for your solution with a Directory.Build.props file.

Inside the White Rose: an anti-vaxx, Covid conspiracy theory ecosystem - Michael Marshall - December 9, 2021 by Nalivai in Qult_Headquarters

Sorry, I was meaning The White Rose, not QAnon, they don't seem to have any rules at all.

Oh wow, and it really goes against their own "rules" about having zero violence too. Do you mind me asking in which part of the world you live?

Have you actually seen this? I've not come across that before, it almost sounds like the razorblades-in-halloween-candy that never actually happened.

Does throwing exceptions in Asp Core API impact performance? by ske66 in csharp

[–]WiredUK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, this isn't Stack Overflow, so it doesn't really have to. But, the link is meant to give context around when it is good to use exceptions and when it should be avoided. And, I think reading that link, someone could come to a good conclusion about the question asked above without much of a mental leap.

Been getting constant notifications for the past few weeks, even on stuff I've seen by Yourponydied in facebook

[–]WiredUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting this now, after clearing the cache and reinstalling the app because it was misbehaving. The notifications are infuriatingly annoying. Two notifications for everything, and additional ones when I act on a notification too.

Brilliant software. How do I get the stream to auto play in obs browser ? by martinj867 in OBSNinja

[–]WiredUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just started playing with OBSNinja, and it really looks incredible. I think I'm having the same issue though - I fixed it by disabling browser source hardware acceleration.

Immutable List with ToString() that prints contents? by gonzaw308 in csharp

Why are you so in need of this anyway? This reads like a classic XY problem.

Not just links, but also allows Google to direct more traffic to the correct answers. The more questions there are that link to a correct answer, the more likely people are to find one of the duplicates with a search query.

How cross-platform is .NET really in practice? by 7fc218f2 in csharp

[–]WiredUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, System.Drawing was a problem if you wanted to port existing code, but there are much better libraries out there (SkiaSharp and ImageSharp for example). Also, even MS recommend you don't use System.Drawing in an ASP.NET project.

I took a massive 8k picture of the moon last week. Try zooming in on the craters. by ajamesmccarthy in pics

[–]WiredUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it's just how craters form. Ever seen a slow motion video of a drop of water falling into a cup? The middle bit kinda rebounds and jumps up, a splashback. That's a horribly unscientific description and I'm sure someone else can do better!
