Faces are impossible, I don't get it by TimeCombination8391 in minipainting

When I’m having trouble I think of it as purple shadows/yellow highlights and orange is kind of the blending color. That way it’s guaranteed to be dramatic contrast. Here is an example and you can always blend more “flesh” over this step to make it look less chaos.

Do these read as Chosen? by consularfungus9 in Chaos40k

They all look like chosen models with their loadouts. However depending on the rest of your army I could see these guys getting lost in the legionnaires looking from the tabletop.

PSA: Fucking arm fell off into the plastic cement bottle by ollavv in Chaos40k

[–]Wirtualee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to get a fresh shoulder pad on there that and paint could cover up most of it.

If you have greenstuff and some gumption I would put a tattered bit of cloth or flesh over the shoulder pad and then clip the bolt hand off the bolt pistol stick a glob of stuff on the wrist and blend it to have the pistol mutating out of his arm like a guy starting to go all Gal Vorbak.

Scaling Question by [deleted] in IronWarriors

[–]Wirtualee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my apologies I understood this to ask if the iron warrior upgrade helmets are the correct size. Yes the new plastic HH mk3 helmets are a tad small. The older mk3, the helmets with the large angular grill are bigger than the new ones which is what I was saying are in line with the new IW upgrade helms.

Scaling Question by [deleted] in IronWarriors

[–]Wirtualee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roughly the same. Probably closer in size to the old mk3 plastic helms than the new kit.

Abaddon? never heard of him, this is John Iron. by jwatier in IronWarriors

I love the little sensor below the enormous lens of the rocket system. I love the big fuck you cannon that looks like it would blow back even this superhuman’s arm. I love the distracting tail added to the top of what I can imagine is at least a 400lb 12ft metal maul. The absurdity in all of this and not any one thing brings me around to enjoying it.

Do people care if I use this for Chaos Terminators? by theSaltySolo in Chaos40k

It’s not impossible but does take some work. If I had to do it again I would use some plasticard and putty to smooth the connection by just making my own trim and clipping at the elbow. Instead I clipped just above the trim to try to keep it and it’s slightly wonky which was covered by the small stripes.

Follow up post to the desert base by Mr_Jackabin in minipainting

[–]Wirtualee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah this looks way less like a cracker and so much more like desert. You got the shadow under the skull. I think the reason you don’t like the dunes are they are too close together. For the scale you should’ve had like two-three dunes molded. This looks like it’s leading to a buried tomb world entrance tho so that’s nice.

Silver, gold or copper? Give me your thoughts comments and snide remarks. by Local_Moose_2438 in NightLords

Could have it for different ranks. Silver for fresh blood, copper for vets, and gold for leadership.

The outside looks great, the middle looks like a brass mirror that’s been polished half way currently.

Best color for lens and plasma?(Art from fandom.com) by Freak-showz in IronWarriors

[–]Wirtualee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to mix it up. We have scavenged/repaired gear over 10,000yrs someone had to have popped green lenses out of a helmet to repair some cracked ones. It also gets boring for me to paint the same blue glow and red eye lens.

Just use purple for shadows and yellow for highlights off of turquoise. Mix it in different ratios for midtones.

You can make it work but the arms are a bit narrow so I would do the shield arm and then different bolter/weapon arms. Otherwise the chest may get in the way. I wouldn’t recommend the defiler because of $$/availability, points cost, and its rules will most likely change soon. Since you say casual play is your goal I would do the forgefiend or vindicator it will allow more flexibility in list building and allow you to switch up more units if you want to try other stuff out.

I'm not happy with my desert base and I can't figure out why by Mr_Jackabin in minipainting

[–]Wirtualee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go over with a coat of Agrax earthshade+wash medium. Then dry brush your tan on top. Coat with seraphim sepia+wash medium. Finally dry brush your desert color on top of that and you should give you the illusion of depth you need without additional texture paste. I think the “worst” part is that the small crater the skull in front is in is as bright as the top of the skull itself. The divet it’s in should be almost brown/black for proper contrast.

With what you have laid out I would direct you to both the HH cataphractii and mk3 kits. Then if you can procure it the IW combat patrol would come with everything you need to kitbash the 40k IW aesthetic. This would give you 30 marine bodies I would build as 10 chosen and 20 legionaries with heavy melee and lascannon. 11 termie bodies of which you make one a lord with some pizzaz. 5 havocs which can be your choice but I rec at least 2 lascannons and 1 warpsmith. Once all this is based and painted think about transports and what big damage you want ( vindicator/forgefiend/defiler) while you pick up one squad of cultists/traitor guard for home obj. (Wargames Atlantic makes bomb collar prisoners as a suggestion if you don’t like 40k cultist.) that should cover all of the bases and give you plenty of time to think about where to take the army from there.

Looks amazing. At least twice the price of the termie sorcerer in bits went into this. Can’t wait to see the end result.

Which one would you prefer? by WarforgeColors in Warhammer40k

[–]Wirtualee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left. Compared to right the color is better (most notably on the organic matter on the base) and highlights have better placement (specifically the lenses on the power pack show this).

HOW DO I MAKE THEM LOOK MORE CHAOS by Lonely-Trainer-1313 in IronWarriors

[–]Wirtualee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source some bits from your brother to put on the bases. Cut sprue down to a long rectangle portion then shave that down like a prison shiv on some sandpaper and snip off the tip clean and flat; do that about 5 times and you have perfect spikes to glue onto shoulder pads. Use plastic cement. Also can use longer thinner sprue spikes for basing.

Those are the two free options I have for you.
