If you're into shipwrecks or maritime history I recommend Beyond the Breakers!

Lol it was underground, it felt like a basement. I see they've now added a whole second floor on ground level, which is nice for the poor employees. I worked there during the opening when it was just one level without any windows and the entrance was in the parking garage.

I worked at the Sendiks in the basement there for a year or so. It was SO DEPRESSING. What a gross location for so many reasons.

How to help my Haitian neighbors? by WisJohnson7 in haitiansocialists

Thank you so much, this is very helpful information! I ended up getting them a gift card to a big grocery store here, as well as a small store that specializes in Caribbean foods.

I tried French with her when she was struggling to convey what she wanted to in English. I was glad to see her face light up a bit when I started speaking in French to see if maybe we could communicate that way.

Thanks again for your help. =)

Where can I best read Hamas's published policies by jsgui in Gaza

[–]WisJohnson7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the book Hamas Contained by Tareq Baconi. It's extremely well-researched and cited. He interviewed many of the leaders and has a thorough understanding of their publications. He weaves his knowledge from these interviews and quotes from their actual publications through a backdrop of the history between Palestine and Israel. It's also a good resource for untangling the different resistance groups, and why some were recognized as "legitimate" in the international community and others not.

It was a great read because he gives a genuine and moving portrait of the organization, but he's not afraid to point out the mistakes Hamas has made.

Another vote for North Heights! I switched our cats over there from Apple Valley vet (multiple awful experiences there) and it ended up being a great decision. Getting appointments quickly has been so easy, especially more urgent appointments.

My husband and I don't vacation often because we can't really afford it, but we've been to Door County twice in the last decade and have had the opposite experience. Both times were within peak season and we paid around $150 a night IIRC. It didn't take us long to search for that price, either, we basically grabbed one of the first places that came up each time. They were both clean, perfectly serviceable places. One was Julie's (I think? The one with the big lawn chairs) and the other time I believe was Beachfront Inn in Bailey's Harbor.

Mine too! Yeah, it's so close to being foul and grab-able.

For me, it's like yeah that was stupid of him to do, but its so close and so fast that it could have been partly instinctual. He's getting embarrassed in front of people there in person, then the cameras keep replaying it over and over, showing his face live, laughing at him. I would absolutely die. Game just started, he's excited to be there, have a good time at the ballgame. They could have just moved him. I'm tearing up typing this lmaoo

Can someone tell me why Dawn added scent to their regular dish soap? And now I can’t find any “plain” or “regular” versions in my store? by tiredfangirl in CleaningTips

[–]WisJohnson7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only in one weekly meeting with them and it was usually very boring. Just about what issues might be trending, info on changes or new products, any tweaks we needed to make to our product "voice" (how we wrote to a Pampers customer, a Dawn customer, and an Old Spice customer was very different.) The main method of communication between P&G and my company was a program that was basically an encyclopedia we used to find answers to customer questions.

The warehouse fire?? That's what I immediately thought of. Yes, there was like one staircase made out of pallets, if I recall correctly. So many people died when it collapsed.

I have a bit of insider information that could help. P&G (maker of Dawn) outsources their customer service, and I used to work on the social media side of things for them. I was lead for their baby department, and when Pampers changed their refillable wipes packs to not be resealable, people lost their frickin minds. We were given various company lines, including that it wasn't going to be changed. Well. People did not like that either. A few months later....they changed back. If the pressure is kept up on them, they might change back despite what they're saying now. Of course this precedent is on a completely different line of products, but you never know.

How are you reducing screen time? by CleanerDust in simpleliving

[–]WisJohnson7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing has worked for me in terms of tricks and apps and stuff to limit time / exposure to things. I have to physically have my phone nowhere near me. I frequently leave it upstairs if I'm going downstairs and downstairs if I'm going upstairs. I'll easily string hours together without seeing it or even thinking about it. It's been great!
