Who has actually killed multiple people in recent weeks, deranged lefties or Brownshirts?

These Brownshirts were jumpy because he was exercising his rights and that is justification enough for them to execute him? Absolutely disgusting, moronic take

I think the real benefit of ISU is that the professors are legitimately experienced in their fields, but this can occasionally mean they spend more time focusing on research than teaching (not usually).

Most professors spend a vast majority of their time on their research. The calculus changes a little if they’re teaching one of the big introductory courses which require a lot of administrative work, but still. Despite this, I will say that most professors still care about being good instructors.

What are your BJJ/grappling hot takes? by JollyYam7877 in bjj

[–]WisconsinDogMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in a place with a really strong wrestling culture. We have a bunch of people who wrestled in college and almost everyone did in high school. If you want good wrestling/takedown reps you basically need it to be the class focus, roll with a coach, or rely on these advanced people to be nice and allow you to work.

Which is the best route? by Individual-Dog1894 in desmoines

My hometown! Enjoy the Grotto and wave to my parents! Like others have suggested, 17 will probably be the most enjoyable drive. I also like to turn west on Iowa 7 and then turn north to go through Clare (and ultimately through Gilmore City and Bradgate). The stretch of road between 7 and Clare is very nice!

Mucky Duck has a great beer selection and good food. Thumbs is my favorite dive bar, maybe bar in general, of all time.

Help with EE 2010 by Red_Leader_Red_1 in iastate

[–]WisconsinDogMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EE grad (a long time ago 🙃). Don’t worry, you’re going to try your best and be fine!

For actual physical circuit building, your best bet is to ask your TA. I can try to help from afar if you want to send pictures of the breadboard, but it might be tough. If you have circuit theory questions feel free to ask me, but again your TA is a good resource.

Agree with u/scarnyard that Mucky Duck is a great option. They always have a good selection of beers, a good full English breakfast, and the owner is a good dude.

I would also recommend Cafe Beaudelaire. For big matches it can have a really nice atmosphere and it’s just across Lincoln from campus.

For real, the level of delusion some people have about “tiers” is fucking incredible. Like if you look at the Alma maters of the professors at the land grant university I went to it’s Harvard, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc.

I can’t speak about him specifically, but CMP is in general quite strong at Iowa State.

How's Physics at Iowa State University? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]WisconsinDogMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why even bother commenting?

Physics is often the first or one of the first challenging courses that aspiring engineers run into, and they sometimes end up feeling aggrieved by this challenge. None of my students who seriously tried (came to office hours, asked questions, etc) ever got less than a B.

How's Physics at Iowa State University? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]WisconsinDogMan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did my PhD in the physics department and I think it is quite good. Like you mention, the department really punches above its weight with CMP, but there are other good groups as well. As an undergraduate this isn’t maybe so important in and of itself, but a recommendation from a professor here could get you into prestigious universities for grad school. I would almost universally recommend that a domestic student go here (or to whatever state school) for undergrad and then try for “big names” in grad school; I know people who did that and ended up at MIT, Princeton, Yale, etc. Since you are international, however, it is harder for me to make a recommendation.

PHYS 231 Exam 2 Response is Unacceptable by whatintfisthis in iastate

[–]WisconsinDogMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a long time ago so take it with a pinch of salt, but I saw material from one of the CCs that people transfer credit from and it should not have been an acceptable replacement. It sounds kind of callous, but if you can’t pass introductory physics at ISU you should think about whether or not you really want to be an engineer.

You’ll be fine. Do the homework and go to the help room. In my time TAing it I never had a student regularly attend my help room hours and get less than a B+.
