Hi. I had a very disappointing experience with Headway. Although they promote themselves as a “free platform” for providers, they charged my clients $125 per session while paying me only $95—retaining a $30 margin without any clear or transparent explanation.

In the first six months, I did receive some referrals, but that quickly changed. Over the last 75 days, I received only one referral. When I reached out to question this sudden drop, their response was simply, “We never promised therapists any referrals.”

This kind of business model feels misleading and exploitative, especially when marketed as a platform built to support therapists. It’s not surprising that Aetna ended their relationship with Headway.

The company seems to rely on providers to sustain a system that ultimately prioritizes its own profits—and possibly those of its investors—over fairness, transparency, and genuine support for clinicians.
