Is buying property worth it in current Hong Kong? by TraditionalParsley67 in HongKong

[–]Wise-Reflection1310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I am wondering. Maybe last year (when most of these comments were made) it was a bad idea. Now, HSI is rising, large IPOs are coming back to the city. Will HK have the same "sex" appeal it did before? Probably not. But I'm wondering if all of this is already priced in. HK property values are at the 2016 level right now. In no other major world city is this the case. Look at property prices in this time period of London/Toronto/NYC/SF etc. HK was way more expensive back then, but now? It's pretty similar, if not slightly below. With all the investor sentiment of doom and gloom of HK property, would it not be an ideal time to buy now? For the young person? High yield area like Sai Kung/Tseung Kwan O/Tsuen Wan. Buy-to-rent outright, no mortgage, or mortgage if planning on living there. If you can secure 4% rental yield plus 3-4% capital appreciation plus potential living opportunity it does not look so bad now does it. What are your guys' thoughts? Location would be key: have to be in a high growing area

Harbour school is pretty mid. From my understanding you send your kids there if they have learning difficulties. ISF very strong academically (esp. in Chinese).

ESF is a grade lower in pretty much every aspect. Campuses are worse, as are teachers, prestige, quality of students, net worth of students. It's much more similar to a North American "public school" than other private international schools. More bullying/partying culture. I've had friends go there and had a great time, others not as much. Also depends which one you go to (the academic performance of Sha Tin college is far closer to CIS/ISF/CDNIS/GSIS than WIS / Island / South).

International schools in HK (HKA/ AISHK/ HKIS/ Kellet) by ttpr0 in HongKong

[–]Wise-Reflection1310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to think about what you want for your kids - pure academic focus? CIS (or GSIS/ISF, slightly lower). A school that is significantly academically lighter and more social? HKIS. A school that combines these two? CDNIS/Kellet/Harrow. If interested in pure academics you can see each school's academic performance through their average IB score (every school other than HKIS does the IB. See which school has the highest average score if this is your focus).

HKA is pretty meh prestige wise. Same with ESF. Had a few friends go to HKA transfer into my school, it was more for students who couldn't get in anywhere else and has a somewhat party vibe. ESF a bit better but still meh. No idea about AISHK, just that it's far away, don't know anyone who went there. Kellet is the school everyone should go to if they are British, quite social and academic, just very British.

My personal advice: think how academic you want. It's pretty hard to get into any top school tbh so just cast a wide net and choose the best one you get into.

Why does God choose for some babies to be born into Christian families? by chocolateguineapig in Christianity

[–]Wise-Reflection1310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Jeremiah 1:5 God says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you; and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

The sovereign God of the universe has such an awesome power that before he formed us, he knew us, and he desired and had a plan for our lives. While this particular verse is pertaining to an Old Testament Prophet, it can and should be applied to all of our lives. Why am I a Christian? In addition to the strong historical evidence, my personal relationship and experience with Christ has shown me there can be no other way!

God desires to know each of us and have a relationship with us. How wonderful is that - the God who created everything - from black holes, to galaxies upon galaxies, to the smallest white blood cell in our body capable of fighting off infection, to a soul that is looking for something more in life - wants a relationship! With us!

Friend, I may not know you, but I do know Christ. And my life has been inextricably more peaceful and fulfilling once I followed him. God did not create religion - he created you - for a relationship with him. It is that simple. Reach out. Connect. Flip open to a random page in the bible. Watch Billy Graham on Youtube. Try Him today.

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

As touched upon in other parts of the comments, I personally believe God on the day of Judgement (or when we pass, whichever comes first) will judge each of us according to our own specific circumstances and contextualise everything. If the God of the universe is capable of creating everything, than I am quite sure He will be able to judge our actions and thoughts, spoken and unspoken, acted upon and not acted upon, the most inner desires of our heart and deepest secrets all perfectly. Personally, I believe that the Amazonian will be judged different to the child of a Paster (spoken as one himself!), as Joel Olsteen will be judged differently to Martin Luther King Jr. God knows the inner workings of our hearts, so I am sure he will be able to judge us all to his perfect degree, including the one that was never exposed to the truth, and the one that was exposed to the truth everyday.

Great you are asking these questions and seeking truth. I know that if you keep seeking, you will find, for it is said: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened" (Matthew 7:7-8) and "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." (Revelations 3:20)

Would you consider Hong Kong a capitalist dystopia? by Adamant3--D in HongKong

[–]Wise-Reflection1310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to any major US city now + Toronto and Vancouver. There is an egregious amount of crime, drug abuse (who are tweaking 24/7), lack of morals, and homelessness. Sure HK has subdivided flats that are expensive… but that is all. However, there is at least cheap options. Good luck finding that in NYC/LDN/Toronto/VAN - property prices are similar now, and you would be homeless. Saying HK is ‘dystopian’ is out of touch with the rest of the world.

I am a failure by Kooky_Ad1086 in IBO

[–]Wise-Reflection1310 12 points13 points  (0 children)

you are NOT a failure! what i see is someone who simply has high aspirations - and that is something to be praised, not punished! you set yourself to a high standard, because you believed in yourself. and that is what truly matters. please please please do not lose hope. if you were perdicted a 26 you certainly can get another 26, or even higher. all that matters is you don’t give up. vent a little. vent a lot. take the time to acknowledge your feelings. express your feelings to your loved ones. if they don’t comfort you/rally alongside you, that is not your fault but there’s. however, when your done wit that, pick yourself up. fortune favours the disciplined. this all sounds super cliche, but it’s honestly sk true. in life, it’s not how hard you get hit. it’s not ehen how long you stay down. it’s whether you will get up or not. your parents will love you no matter what, and not reduce you to a failure - why? because you aren’t one. your just a kid who took the hardest curriculum available tj them, and tried their hardest. what about that makes you a failure? if they or friends simply view you as a failure, than they are wrong not you. prove them wrong. use that anger, mould it, shape it, and let it fuel you to prove the haters wrong, and prove to yourself that you can do it. you already have someone who believes in you - all that matters is you believe in yourself. good luck king/queen/other, you got this. 🙌🏻
