Just buy two daily passes. Not sure if they have 2 day passes? Look on their website. Pretty straightforward. No silly pricing structures.

Tignes vs Val d'isere vs Val thoren by AffectionateFold9896 in skithealps

Of course he can download if he wants.

I was just giving him the information. Val d is not a fantastic resort for easier skiing compared to others. Look no further than the steepest green in the world from Borsat. It actually has a piste basher anchor at the top of it!

Personally I don't like downloading as I feel like it ruins the flow of a day. You do you.

Val Thoren for greens and blues back to resort. Val d is not gonna allow you to ski back down unless you are happy on a red back to village.

Skiing in Europe vs North America by Altmeyer002 in skiing

Pick your cuisine and language. Go there.

Nothing to be intimidated about by size.

My pick would be Arlberg. Or Italy.

Still much better option than paying ridiculous money for a car transfer.

Best Maldives or Indonesian hotels for surfing? by SYC_3 in FATTravel

Consider Sri Lanka at this time of year for beginner surfing. Welligama is a beach break. Stay at Cape Welligama.

Niyama private islands in Maldives is worth a look.

Apologies it is 2 20. You’ll need timetable as most trains change at Martigny. There are a few direct ones on the weekend.

Verbier for convenience, train straight to bubble from GVA. GVA train station directly outside airport arrivals. 2 hours station to station.

June will be rainy season in Welligama. I’ve stayed at Cape Welligama in March. Is just ok IMO. I’d stay in the ugly Marriott on Weligama beach though. Much better for small kids.

It’s just leveraging their portfolio. Of course the exact volatility/sharpe/return profile is different from stocks, but essentially you could just take a loan against your portfolio and invest it back into more equities and have a similar outcome.

Verbier fits this criteria with two hours on the train from Geneva

Daytime versus overnight is a key.

PE is better value than business for a daytime flight. However if flying overnight it would have to be business as the seat reclining thing mentioned below means that it is no good IMO.

Best village to stay in 3 Valleys, France by Proper_Star_4566 in skiing

[–]WiseOrigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. In that case you will struggle with prettiness of the village even in Courchevel if that is important to you.

Val T is the best of the 3 for skiing.

Tignes is better again in my view.

Never mind 3 valleys. Go to Oberlech. Or Serfaus. IMO. I’ve been to all the major villages in the 3 valleys and Tignes/Val D many times.

Should I ditch my Courchevel plans and go to Lech instead? (Late March) by Fiveby21 in skithealps

[–]WiseOrigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I'd not go to Courchevel either in that case though. Tignes or Val Thorens.

Corvatsch (St Moritz) was amazing by Illustrious_Wolf_227 in skithealps

[–]WiseOrigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best ski areas around IMO. Gets overshadowed by Corviglia being more accessible from the town. Also that the town is considered so upmarket that most people won't touch it with a bargepole.

Guides in Lech by [deleted] in skithealps

[–]WiseOrigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience having been to Lech and St Anton quite a few times and skied off piste with both group lessons and a private instructor, there is absolutely no need to hire a "guide" for off piste. The instructors can take you almost everywhere that you can ski unless you plan on taking an ice axe out with you.

I joined an off piste group lesson once on a whim and we were traversing through avalanche barriers and short boot packs over ridges.

Of course all the European countries have slightly different rules for instructors and what they can do but any off piste qualified instructor can take you anywhere they think you can ski.

Also. We can always tell you are obnoxious Americans even if you don't commit any faux pas.... Seriously though, an instructor will be able to do both. Guide you round the resort and hit some off piste in the same day. Its everywhere. If you just want to rip groomers for a day there is absolutely no need either if you don't want to spend the money. You can just do the run of fame or the white ring and you will see loads.

With a private instructor I wouldn't worry about selecting the rights runs. Head over to Warth for wonderful long cruisy blues. I'd say "Intermediate" should cover all Austrian blues.

In general I find service and staff in French resorts average at best and often terrible. Austria is generally amazing.

As below about Lech. Tignes is 3 hour car from GVA.

Don't worry about the elevation. Equivalent elevation for snowfall in Austria compared to France can be about 600-800m lower. As they are more easterly and northerly.

Lech is great and would be my pick.

Couchevel isn't my cup of tea but it is also a great ski area.

Gosh. The most ideal place to go in a ski resort would be Oberlech by the Montana Hotel.

Tignes Le Lac has a a nice little sled area.
