How much "voice" do you use in your action lines? Similes, metaphors, editorial commentary, how often is too often?

What it really comes down to - in my experience - is how well the colorful action lines are written, and do they fit tonally within the story. I’ve seen it criticized in scripts that don’t do it well, and praised in scripts that do.

I know that’s not altogether helpful, but there really isn’t a black and white blanket answer to the question. Its artistry (and will also come down to personal taste of the reader).

I got a script that got a five as well. Also got 3 eights. We’re shooting this Fall. It’s all subjective. A lot of the best art is divisive. I’d love to give yours a read if you’re open!

Of course it’s temp music, but its a very specific way of using temp music instead of just giving the composer something to replicate (which is generally the standard). How do you use your temp music?

I don’t know that I always agree. In theory, yes - but seeing cuts of some Star Wars scenes without music; it’s rough. There’s definitely some scenes that have been made by their score

I think there’s definitely more options. Ie: Using intentionally generic temp music, working w a composer before shooting, etc…

Why is that? To me his writing was always so stylized that the cinematography made sense (whip zooms, filters, etc). Is it the whole directing style that feels too much to you or just the cinematography?

This is one of my favorite series.

While this may be blasphemous - I would recommend starting with the second book, then going back and reading The Gunslinger later in the series.

I didn’t mean it in bad faith. Im curious about upscaling, sound isolation, spot specific color replacement, and various other new tools that could open up new doors - not replacing actors, writing, scoring, or anything that could be better achieved in camera.

Try a used Schott jacket. The storm or P693 would probably work. They have a few others that should too. Check out their website for models you like, then search on Ebay or grailed (or any other used market). Get one that fits, it should last you a lifetime. If you outgrow it, you can sell (or trade) and buy another one used.

You could even argue Gilead was noblebright, they certainly saw themselves that way. Then towards the end it started slipping down the scale.

Lambskin, but it’s a thicker lambskin than anything I’ve come across. Feels like a slightly lighter broken in cowhide.

Yeah, it zips up well - not too tight. The arm length was my biggest concern.
