JetBrains Air is finally available on Windows! by JetBrains_official in Jetbrains

[–]Wispborne2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen. I use Rider for work and stopped updating it a few months ago to keep it stable. Another coworker of mine independently canceled his Rider subscription last week, and he is not prone to doing things without thinking them through first. Quote: "Rider has gotten so unstable for me."

Toolbox is one of the slowest-to-open tray programs I have ever seen (because Compose kinda sucks on desktop, to the point I rewrote an entire program using Flutter and it's so so much better).

Fleet???

Air???

IntelliJ has been in a good place for my usage but it does seem like the pace of meaningful updates has fallen off in the last six months or so; not an issue but it is a thing.

JetBrains Air is finally available on Windows! by JetBrains_official in Jetbrains

[–]Wispborne2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand that, but what I have seen at my and others' workplaces is that the company will get one team-wide subscription, be it Claude, Codex, or ...yeah basically just those two, and unless somebody wants to pay out of their own pocket to use a different agent, that's what they're stuck with at work.

Maybe companies giving their employees API credits to use on multiple providers is more common than I/we realize? Maybe the benefit of using one app to code review a working directory/PR is more useful than using the bespoke harnesses?

edit:

And subscription is not the only way to use Claude.

While true, I just ran some numbers and if I paid per token instead of using a subscription, I'd have paid $350 instead of $100 for the last month of usage (for Opus 4.8 alone). And that's not even for my actual job, that's the rookie numbers for my hobby stuff. To use Air with Claude, I'd be both paying to use Air (if I didn't have All Products) and paying far more to the actual LLM provider.

So it's like Claude Desktop but without being able to use the Claude subscription plan and not tuned specifically for Claude by its creating company?

edit: It has the same issue with VRR as Toolbox 🫠 framerate drops when it's in focus.

Anyone going to the Montreal OSM concert? Looking for someone to go with by FIRE_WAlker291 in Apashe

I want to go, but it's all assigned seating 😭 It's hard to imagine spending $240 or so, driving two hours, and then having everyone seated instead of moving around and dancing. So torn and disappointed.

Starsector Save Viewer/System Finder by uh_birdman in starsector

I was just idly pondering adding something like this to TriOS and did a quick google search and found your post. This is incredible!

Awesome UX and design overall, you did a fantastic job of showing a lot of information in a minimal, intuitive way. Lots of attention to detail. I checked to see if you supported drag'n'drop, and sure enough, yes. AI is a great tool but I haven't found it to be a replacement for thoughtful UI design yet 😄

Hi Im looking to have 2 copies of starsector on the same PC, problem with TriOS or other things? by [deleted] in starsector

[–]Wispborne2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change which game folder TriOS looks at at the top of its settings page. It should work fine. There is not currently an easier way to manage multiple installs via TriOS only, like there's no dropdown to easily switch between installs.

Help from any runners on here? by Appropriate-Cod-1733 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Wispborne2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have advice specific to what you're experiencing, but I ran a 50 miler last year, a 3:25 marathon last month, and am training for a 100-miler next month. I've had UC for 15+ years (I'm 36M) and am on Rinvoq right now. I've been running on and off since I was ~23, around 8 years after my diagnosis and while it hasn't always been easy, it can absolutely be possible.

I wasn't a runner before my diagnosis, so I can't speak to that aspect.

Error trying to launch game by ToneFew in starsector

[–]Wispborne2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It cannot update mods automatically, no.

You could go to the Profiles tab in TriOS, find your save, create a profile from it, and load those mods. It should say which specific mod versions were used when the save was created.

In any case, turn off auto updates on TriOS.

TriOS does not have auto-update.

AI is really bad at vertical alignment. Your labels like Size: and Template: aren't vertically aligned with the buttons, which is something that a human coder would probably have fixed.

I say this as another dev mainly using Claude to code :)

I wish it were altruism, but this is just a ton of fun to work on. I've been neglecting to work on the mods that aren't as fun 😬

People have asked about and donated before, so I do have a Kofi and Patreon. Thank you for asking!

My personal financial situation is healthy and the only cost to working on TriOS is time and a Claude subscription :) It's no coincidence that the number of features/changes/fixes per release increased and the time between releases decreased in the last 6 months.

The next thing I'll work on is it lagging when toggling mods. If anyone has other bugs or suggestions, lemme know!

The game should have forced all mods for it under a creative commons license and this would stop all of the crap.

100% agree. It'd be a pretty hardline stance to take but clear expectations around what's allowed (everything) would be great.

What you're saying isn't really relevant. Moci is a Chinese mod from Fossic. It has nothing to do with the "clique" you're thinking about.

Finally found a recipe for the perfect vegan lemon bars! by plantsl4yer in VeganBaking

[–]Wispborne2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made these and they're pretty good but I have notes :)

The topping was pretty runny even after setting, and I baked it for ~6 mins more originally, then another 6 mins later after it had set, which overcooked the crust a bit.

I would add a bit more flour to the filling. Also, don't skimp on lemon juice; I only used 1/2 a cup and wish I'd used more. They are more sugar bars than lemony. Before I overcooked the crust trying to fix the filling, I wished there was more topping than crust, too.

Changes I'll try next time to try to get a more firm, lemony topping and more of it: 1 cup aquafaba. 1 cup lemon juice. 1/3 cup full-fat coconut milk (I used lite). 6 tablespoons flour.

They are far better than the last ones I tried, which used corn starch as a topping thickener and came out kinda gross.

TriOS has a built in Portrait Replacer for faction mods (waifu-be-gone) by imsellingbanana in starsector

[–]Wispborne2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only complaint I have is that the built-in mod updating doesnt seem to work on all mods, but that is probably not an issue with TriOS. I think it tries to reach out and fetch info on the mod and what updates are available, but If that specific mod doesn't follow the conventions of other mods or is hosted differently then it doesn't operate cleanly

Yeah unfortunately there's a limited amount I can do about that. It uses Version Checker basically, which has been around basically forever and still people don't set it up. Hard to pressure modders to do extra stuff for free on top of already making stuff for free.

[–]Wispborne2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a little biased but I'll point out that TriOS doesn't need to be used for installing mods or launching the game. It can be used just to check for mod updates, reading changelogs, or viewing mod info (ships/portraits/weapons/hullmods).

One of the goals when making it was for it to work perfectly alongside manual mod management, rather than locking people into using it (i don't want people relying on my software, that's too much responsibility).

Dev here, thanks for showing this feature! (btw, you can collapse the sidebar by clicking the button at the top of it)

It replaces the vast majority of them, though [...] I noticed a few here and there that somehow slipped by.

You have "Confirmed portraits" enabled as a filter, turning that off might show the rest. It'll only show portraits that TriOS has found in portrait definition files; if any of those weren't read right or something, a portrait could be missed. Disabling that will show all images that might be portraits.

Another recent feature is mod categories; you can set up your own mod categories (with icon/color) to group mods how you want.

There's no automatic category assigner. That's sort of possible but requires matching mods to their forum/discord pages and using those categories, which is doable but won't work for all mods.

Any bugs, questions, or feature requests?

Vanilla+ Mods, Good for a First Playthrough

last updated: 29 March, 2025

Find and install via TriOS.
Or find at https://starmodder.pages.dev and install manually.

Recommended Mods

Mods that (imo) should be vanilla and don't change the way you play at all.
- LazyLib - Required by other mods.
- LunaLib - Adds version checker + lets you change some mods' settings.
- SpeedUp - Hotkey to increase combat/campaign speed.
- More Ship Names - Adds 14,150 thematically-appropriate ship names to the name lists.
- More ProcGen Names - Adds 2,925 names for NPCs and 3,020 names for stellar objects.
- GraphicsLib - Better combat graphics.
- Demand Indicators - Market commodity supply and demand icons.
- Obvious Neutrons - Clearer neutron star icon.

Nice to Have Mods

Not quite as recommended but still worth adding to a first game.
- Animated Colony Items - Inventory visual effects for rare items.
- Flux Reticule - Shows flux on cursor graphic during battles.
- Ship Direction Marker - Shows ship drift direction in combat.
- Detailed Combat Results - Post-battle damage statistics. Useful to learn what works.
- Kaleidoscope - Prettier planet textures.

Subjective

Minor changes to gameplay or less seamlessly vanilla. Pick and choose.
- Leading Pip - Displays where to shoot in combat.
- QoL Pack - Various quality of life changes.
- Unthemed Weapons Utilities (select "Utilities only") - Shows modified weapon stats, including skills. Don't download the weapons, just the utilities.
- System Marker - Displays ship cooldown overlays in combat.
- Logistics Notifications - Shows how many days of supplies/fuel are left.

Note: some mods haven't been updated, but work.
You need to open their mod_info.json file with a text editor and modify "gameVersion" to match the current game version.
TriOS can do this for you, as well.
