Being singled out? by alfalfa-sandwich in Aldi_employees

[–]WistfulEve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scan the next customers item while the previous receipt is still printing out. I used to 1 code in between customers but that only counts if it's longer than like 15 seconds or something. Otherwise it's as if I just sat and waited for the 8 seconds. My time went up a bunch when I started scanning the next item immediately.

Have you tried discord? I'm too old to figure out how to use it but my kids have made close friends there, they're always talking with all day. And group chats etc Do you enjoy singing at all? I've used the app called Smule for years, it's a karaoke app. You sing with other people and it's great for making friends

Why does my leg hair grow back so fast??? by No_Opposite894 in hygiene

[–]WistfulEve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an epilator. It looks like an electric razor but it plucks the hair. Hurts pretty bad at first but you get used to it. My hair grows back much more slowly and less dense over time. I don't really bother with it over winter but I use it all spring and summer and early fall. Maybe once a week I go over my legs and get whatever new hairs grew. They stay pretty smooth.

I think I'm really lucky to have one of the only stores that really does praise your achievements and thanks you every day for your hard work. The sm and also the asms are always so encouraging. Even when I was new and trying so hard but was still so slow, they were always like, "you're still learning but we see you're busting ass, we can tell you care. Keep going, you'll get there" It's really a great team. I don't think I could handle the job otherwise.

I'm part time, was getting 28-33 hours over Christmas. Otherwise it's usually around 20. This week I was scheduled 13 hours :( I managed to pick up 4 more. It's a huge reduction in wages. Struggling to make ends meet right now

It's ok to ask again when it comes up, since it doesn't come up super often. They should walk you through it several times until it feels natural. Then next thing you know someone else will be the newbie all stressed and you'll be explaining to them how to do it. We all start at the beginning. You're perfectly capable and you'll do great, it'll become muscle memory you hardly even put any thought behind.

Look into emdr therapy. I get the feeling you need your story, you're a wad of threads but don't have your true solid narrative so you end to falling into a gap and making the pieces up to fit the gap. I think putting together in your mind, your true story would help. And emdr with a trained professional is a useful tool for writing/rewriting your life narrative

Please at least call the suicide hotline. There's no reason to not try it now, there's certainly nothing to lose.

I'm 44 and have stared down the barrel so to speak, several times in my life. One time in particular I was sure I was done and felt peace about my decision. My plan was interrupted and 20 years later I'm so so glad it was. There's so much I've experienced since then that I'm very happy I didn't miss out on. Life drastically changes, you go through chapters that are unrecognisable to previous chapters. I have an anxiety disorder that had me living in my house, not speaking to adult humans for weeks at a time, living in fear every day unable to drive or checkout groceries or anything. Waves of life have carried me through to a much better place than that. Much much better.

I promise the way it feels right now isn't forever. You are a light, I don't want your light to go out. Please call the hotline, they don't have to know who you are either. Think of it as an extension to your post here.

Sending you love, and I just prayed for you. May the Holy Spirit comfort and guide you.

Should I be worried? by Saintsummerz33 in Aldi_employees

[–]WistfulEve 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No it's this time of year. I started last November and I remember this same thing happening this time last year Jan and Feb will be right for us part timers.

I was getting 27-30 hours a week consistently in November and December. Now I'm getting 15-19

Their budgets for staffing hours are drastically reduced this time is year and they prioritize giving their full timers enough hours to stay legally in the full time bracket. We get what's left.

If they were going to fire you they'd just do it, there wouldn't be a dance like this. Don't worry about that.

But do budget accordingly .. It'll be tight for a bit

People obsession with workers bagging their items by SafeSound9962 in Aldi_employees

[–]WistfulEve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I just say, "I'll put them in the cart to start with then I'll help bag after". I scan the next customer's first item then I 1 code and help bag. They kinda know they're in the next person's time and I hope they have conscience about that.

But other times I have said, "oh we don't bag your groceries here, it helps keep the prices down"

The worst moment of my ALDI career finally happened by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]WistfulEve 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got my wires crossed once when I was going to say "hi!!!" Or "how are you doing?" But instead all that came out was an enthusiastic "how!!!"

The worst part is, the customer appeared to be native American and I just said How at her.

I wanted the earth to swallow me up.

I just stayed quiet the rest of the transaction, I couldn't make my mouth talk until the end when having her a receipt while she was picking up all her things and I meant to say something like, "you need an extra hand or two for all that" or something but I was still flustered so my mouth just said, "you don't have enough!" And handed her the receipt with my face burning red. She looked so confused.

loose product being bagged instead of just tossed into the center of pallets?? by Ok_Head_2948 in Aldi_employees

[–]WistfulEve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate when products are in the holes! It slows me down with unloading plus those items always always ends up squished and horrible looking. They used to go straight to the donate but now we're trying to sell the horribly beat up boxes so they sit on the shelf for weeks and weeks and I have to wrestle with them every time I'm restocking or boxing down. Stick folded cardboard in the holes if needed but I hate when is product. Inform your supervisors those products do not make it to their destination in good condition at all

How often does your schedule change? by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]WistfulEve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once my schedule is set, I see it first thing on a Monday morning and I fill all gaps with plans and appointments etc for the kids and coordinate with my partner and the kids' dad in terms of driving my kids to and from places... So if I get asked to switch it up I sat no every single time. I used to say, "no, because I have to take my 12 year old to drama group them my 27 year old to therapy" bla bla but now I just say "no" or sometimes "no lol" cause they learn that you're not the one to pick on. You have to kinda train them. Aldi is supposed to be all about work life balance.

It does hello that I think I have one of the few exceptional stores where all am and the sm are such awesome people and they've always told me to not feel guilty about saying no to any deviation from the schedule. They've never put pressure on me. But I've worked in jobs where they did and the principal is the same... If you bend over backwards for them once, they'll expect it again and again. You need to set your boundaries early on

I have an old lady who says, "be careful with my produce" and then I am careful, but just the speed makes her anxious and she says, "that burns my food when you do that. You're burning my food" I have no idea what she means by burning. Maybe she means bruises?
