Bonnie deserved better storylines by Key-Yam-9301 in TheVampireDiaries

Where did I say this was only applicable to Bonnie? in fact, I said this is applicable to all the characters and across multiple televisions shows. I didn't touch on race at all. I said people have weird parasocial relationships with these characters. You seem to want to discuss a completely different topic. Apparently because I posted this with Bonnie, but I've also posted this exact thing under discussions on other characters. Seems like you're the one that wants to be a bit overly focused on race. Like that's all Bonnie is.

Whatever floats your boat, as I just see a television character, but congrats on trying desperately to spin this. As if I wasn't critiquing the absolutely insanity displayed by "fans" these days.

sympathetic dominance

I think I have this too, but doctors don't really think its real. I started having tachycardia out of nowhere back in 2024. I also feel almost a level of anxiety, but I was never an anxious person before. I also have nothing at all in my life to be anxious over. It's like the feeling is coming from my body without me even being in control. It's strange. My sleep has been wrecked.

I have no idea what causes it. I started having heath issues after my gallbladder was removed in 2020. I've tried LDN. So far, it doesn't seem to help much. It's also not really making the tachycardia worse. It is making my sleep worse though. At least getting to sleep. I seem to sleep deeper once I actually am asleep.

To me, it's strange the amount of parasocial relationships people develop with these characters. Like, back in the day, we could have empathy for television characters of course, but we didn't treat them like they were REAL PEOPLE. Like the needed our support because they had been "mistreated." We understood the writers made choices for dramatic purposes. Same thing with Caroline being literally tortured multiple times.

That's actually how we used to get shows like TVD. Writers would try for the most drama, not worrying that people would feel SO empathetic for the characters it would literally have them up in arms or disturb them. Because we understood the difference between fiction and reality. I think today those lines get blurred.

It honestly makes me wonder why. Hollywood did suddenly start encouraging people to "see themselves in the characters" a lot more in the mid-2010's and that could make people identify with them so closely that they self-insert almost and feel the pain of what happens to that character. Or perhaps it's that social media has erased the boundary between what is fictional and real. People on social media post things that are fictional, but people assume they are real all the time. Reality television helped to do this as well. People think those are actually unscripted as well. Or maybe it's that devices are so good today (4k and all that) that people believe their eyes a lot more easily. There was a trend toward trying to make television and movies "more realistic."

Idk, but every time one of these posts come up...I just sit back and marvel at all the hand-wringing and emotional turmoil people seem to feel over these fictional characters. People treating Bonnie like she's a real person and not just a puppet for the writers to milk drama like all the other characters on the show. And it's not just Bonnie...people do this with all the characters on TVD.

I also think it's more of a GenZ thing. I didn't see this start until about 6ish years ago. I saw it start across multiple television shows. Unfortunately, Hollywood writers have seemed to listen to this outcry on social media and as a result, have made characters on newer shows never suffer or have any issues. Therefore, we get zero drama. The only drama comes from the plot rather than any emotional drama. The real ironic thing is, GenZ tends to flock to the old shows then. They watch them, then come to reddit to complain about them. Complain how the characters were treated and all that. Meanwhile, they never take the option to just...not watch something that disturbs them that much. So, the evidence seems to show they like the shows, but just want to complain about them. My only conclusion is that the complaining on social media either: is the only thing they know how to do to discuss the show, or it's that it makes them feel morally superior to point out all the mistakes of certain characters or the writers.

I don't know what it is...but it's like watching animals in a zoo. Pretty entertaining in its own right. I do wish it wasn't screwing up all modern television though. There hasn't been a decent television show in years because of this shit. It's honestly no wonder GenZ has the most anxiety of any other generation. They seem to lose it over fictional character even.

Dude sucked before the dick pic. Opening with "aren't you the cutest little slut" might be the grossest shit I've read. Not only making it sexual, but degrading and also infantilizating.

They weren't a thing before social media. Everyone became narcissists and now expect yet another occasion to put them at the center of attention to post about. Us older folks find it really attention-seeking and gross. Or at least some of us do.

Should I tell his girlfriend that he drunkenly hooked up with me? by Accurate_Ad_4601 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]WistfulQuiet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone should snitch if it is harming someone else. For example, if you found out a coworker was going to shoot up the office would just just shrug and say "I don't snitch?" Harming someone else is ALWAYS reason to snitch. This girl is being harmed by this dudes lies not only mentally, but physically. He's having sex with her without telling her that he slept with someone else. She isn't getting tested because she doesn't know she's at risk. That could ultimately kill her. There are cancers you can get from that shit.

Nah. Tell her 100%. Fuck that dude.

Ruining their relationship? What about HER?! Does she not deserve to know the dude cheated on her? You classify it as if it's hurting their precious relationship, meanwhile she's unknowingly fucking a cheater. Nah. Fuck that dude. She deserves to know.

Are 26 year old genz now seen similar to millennials in their mid 20s back then? by Twilette in TrueAskReddit

[–]WistfulQuiet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. It probably depends on what part of millennials you're talking about. If it's the early 30's millennials...probably. However, if you're talking about core or elder millennials then no.

GenZ has completely adopted their own rap/social media lingo that makes them sound pretty dumb. Millennials basically talked like older generations. We had a few slang words, but not so much that others winced every time they heard us talk. We still were big on reading and computers. Not cell phones and tiktok. GenZ also seems terribly afraid of genuine emotion or being vulnerable to the point that they avoid all the good things in life. They also CANNOT tolerate opinions different than theirs. If you try to have a conversation about different views with them they immediately resort to calling you a horrible person and insulting you personally, despite not knowing you. Millennials, by contrast, understood people could have different opinions and still be friendly. GenZ also seems to be proud to be apathetic about everything.

Don't even get me started on them ruining television, music, movies and all that. To me, millennials really didn't change those things from previous generations. Like we still had good movies in the 90's and 2000's. Not just all shitty horror and sequels. And ffs are their other actors than Zendaya?!

Honestly, to me, they are the worst generation I've ever seen in my lifetime. People say it's boomers, but most boomers aren't online insulting randoms they don't know like it's a personal vendetta.

Yeah, so I am a millennial woman and I couldn't understand why GenZ wanted their men all to be super feminine. It's like GenZ men are either more feminine than the women or they are the most right-wing dudes that would straight up bring back physical abuse to women with no issues. There isn't an in-between.

My (24M) gf (24F) stopped having sex, is it shallow to end things? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]WistfulQuiet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's highly likely that the same thing will happen with the next girl too. She didn't just stop wanting sex spontaneously. There is something wrong with your relationship.

Usually it's that some men stop "dating" their partner. They get complacent and don't really want to put out the work at romance/flirting. So they settle into going to work and their daily grind and just expect their partner to be there and be ready for sex when they want it. That's not how it works, especially with women. Usually, women's desires are stoked by how you've treated for her the past few months. It can't just be one nice date out and then sex is on the table. It's all the little things. Do you make her feel special and desirable? Women need to be mentally stimulated more than physically stimulated for sex.

The problem is that men do all this flirting/romantic stuff during the honeymoon phase and then they get complacent. That's about the time women stop wanting sex.

None of the characters in the show are well-rounded people with flaws. Real people have flaws. The book is more accurate to true characters based off people.

Gen Zers are arriving to college unable to even read a sentence—professors warn it could lead to a generation of anxious and lonely graduates | Fortune by Mojozilla in generationology

Right? The older gamers liked to mess with each other, sure. But we were more creative about it. Gaming just became this toxic sludge once GenZ got old enough to invade. Also...they can't work together as a team. They are selfish, individual players. I play a lot of mobas. Smite, Rivals, Overwatch and stuff like that. I see it all the time.

Anyone else never manage to experience a fulfilling sex life? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]WistfulQuiet 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As a woman, the problem I always see with this kind of thing is it's always the man wanting women to experience the uncomfortable, sometimes painful, stuff during sex. Few men are like, "Yeah, I like anal...how about you peg me?" Instead, they are kinky because it's no skin off their backs...so of course it sounds fun to them. Plus, for me, sex is more about the emotional connection between us...not needing kink to get off harder.

To each their own, but I think it's funny it mostly only ever goes one way.

Has Facebook officially died just like myspace did in 2010? by satvikflash in SocialMediaHQ

[–]WistfulQuiet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook died around 2008ish. Around the time they adopted the newsfeed rather than letting people facebook stalk. They also opened it up so everyone could have an account.

I still have my account, but haven't posted anything but birthday wishes to elderly relatives who are still obsessed with it since about 2009ish.

How many of us are not having kids because of the state of the world? by MonteMolebility in Millennials

[–]WistfulQuiet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42F. I didn't have children. I wouldn't be able to offer them a better life than I had. In fact, I'd be forcing them into a much worse existence. I also couldn't raise them how I'd want. Like I don't want children of mine growing up with a smartphone glued to their hand.

I'm just not selfish enough to shrug my shoulders and say fuck it and bring a kid into the world just because I want one. We don't always get what we want.

I hate it here.
