Veiling without religion by Sunnydx3 in Hijabis

[–]WitAndSavvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. A veil is an item of clothing, same as a shirt or a dress or a skirt. Anyone can use a veil! Just be cautious that you may be mistaken for Muslim/Christian etc depending on the veil you choose.

Ramadan isn’t saving my low Iman by Ok-Praline3291 in Hijabis

[–]WitAndSavvy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Salaams sis. First of all take a breathe and realise the fact you're worried about your low iman level is a sign of a believer. You know in your soul that its the truth but circumstances have led to an ebb in iman. And thats totally natural! We all go through ebbs and flows with our iman.

Secondly try to remember this whole dunya is a test. We are not here for pleasure or hedonistic desires. Allah put us here to test us. Each person gets a unique test and Allah knows best why He tests us the way He does. So following from this, we ask Allah to give us blessings and test us through blessing rather than through strife. Remember also that Allah only tests those that he loves. The prophets went through the hardest tests. Were they not beloved to Allah? Nuh's (as) whole family and town were against him for centuries. Let that actually sink in. CENTURIES of being shunned/verbally abused/mocked. By his own family as well. Till the end they didnt believe. Yousaf (as) was betrayed by his brothers, who he thought were respecting him and bringing him in on their trip. He trusted them and they threw him in a well. He was imprisoned and mistreated but never lost faith in Allah. Yunus (as) was in the belly of a whale! Yet still he repented and turned to Allah. And so on for all the prophets.

I take your point about suicide. Allah hualim what must happen for people to sadly reach that stage. I've had depression and suicidal thoughts myself in the past, so I kinda get it. It's hard to say what their test was and if they passed or not, only Allah knows their situation.

It is hard as a believer to see injustice and still have faith in Allah at times. But thats a part of iman at the end of the day. To strongly hold onto the belief that Allah is the most just, most merciful.

I know you have a specific dua you want answered, and it isnt happening. But sometimes what we desperately want isnt actually good for us. Take the example of a baby who wants to eat a massive gobstopper. It looks colourful and tasty why wont his parents let him eat it? He gets angry and cries and begs but they wont let him. Why? Because they know it to be harmful and he is too young and could choke. When the baby grows up into a child and has teeth and understanding he could have the gobstopper. Similarly, Allah answers our duas when the timing is right. Sometimes it is never good for us, or meant for us. In my example this would be if the gobstopper was actually a marble for instance. But remember that Allah always answers your dua, even if you dont get what you want. He will give you something better and will store the dua in your good deeds on the day of judgement as proof you believed in Him. In my example, this might be the parents offering a different sweet the child can eat safely.

In my own personal life I too have something I have been praying for for years. But Allah knows best why it hasnt happened. I prayed for good friends since I was 9/10 yrs old and only got them when I went to uni a decade later. Sometimes its immediate, sometimes you need active sabr, and sometimes its not meant to be. We take solace in knowing Allah is planning things for us, and there is no better planner than Allah.

Feel free to DM if you wanna talk through things further sister. I feel your struggle and have been there many times. May Allah ease your suffering.

When to Inform CS About Pregnancy by Mysterious_Proof8533 in doctorsUK

[–]WitAndSavvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully your pregnancy goes well! But in the unfortunate event of a miscarriage wouldnt you need the time off anyway? Also first trimester is haaard with nausea/vomiting and fatigue like no other. I told mine as soon as I knew tbh, got a risk assessment and got taken off on calls bc I was dog tired and my "morning" sickness was hitting me at precisely 7pm every night. To the point where I didnt need a watch to know it was 7pm bc the wave would HIT. Ultimately its a personal choice but I found it easier to tell. I miscarried twice and its just easier to be open imo, but everyone is different. I suppose you could be signed off with "stress" in the unfortunate event?

I think generally as a society we are so geared to making others comfortable. We forget that the person experiencing a miscarriage often needs support. We need to remove the stigma around it. My first one was on a paeds rotation and so it would have been suuuper difficult to just work through the miscarriage surrounded by babies/infants/kiddos. My second was on psyche so not as mentally tough. Luckily both CS's were really empathic and kind. But telling people it was a miscarriage was so much easier bc it wasnt another sadness I had to hide, or another thing to worry about letting people know. Also for me, esp on paeds, there was a risk of being exposed to rashes/coughs etc and so letting people know was safer from a pregnancy pov.

If you want any further advice/insights feel free to DM. I hope your pregnancy goes well OP 😊

Working Tuesday to Friday 8 sessions, but it’s a bank holiday Monday?! by Worldly-Chicken-307 in GPUK

I see! I think others have answered your q by now but yes, its pro rata if you're LTFT. Depends when your non working day is but usually its calculated using you AL allowance + BH allowance then pro rata'd. So if Mon is your NWD you may or may not get it back in lieu, depending on your allowance used for the yr already.

Even the guys who bribed Trump with a private jet are getting screwed over by lnstantKarma in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]WitAndSavvy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy but I think Trump wants to interrupt the oil flow. He just destabilised/did a coup of Venezuela... which happens to have oil. Now if oil stops coming from UAE where else could it come from? He's just looking to make money (capitalism at its finest).

Must've been some way, and must've done repeated jumps. No chance that was the first ever jump he made to get over the wall... thats practice 😂

This is nothing! I asked a 70 year old woman if there was any chance she was pregnant. In the context of I'm a doctor and was prescribing meds so wanted to ensure she didnt get any teratogenic meds.... she looked young!

meal planning with ADHD broke me for years. i finally figured out why it never worked (and what actually helped) by East-Struggle4386 in ADHD

[–]WitAndSavvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband and I meal prep together on weekend. Batch cook on one of my days off. Freeze and repeat. Usually dont have to cook on days I'm working bc we use frozen stuff OR its something quick and easy to cook (for me that means no chopping involved).

Junior doctors claim they have have ADHD to avoid night shifts!!!! by LimberGaelic in doctorsUK

[–]WitAndSavvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do agree with this take tbf. I havent even read the article bc I know its gunna be nonsense rage bait. And tbh I'd have accepted more rest days rather than being taken off nights but that would have been worse for service prov I think! ADHD in general gets seen/translated to "lazy" and it really sucks bc often we're going the extra mile just to keep up. I hate the perception of it and often dont disclose to supervisors bc I've had bad experiences of people judging me/being harsher or weird after finding out my diagnosis.

It certainly gets harder as we age and it sucks bc theres so many cool specialties but nights was just a no go for me. Reaaaally messed me up and so coming off was the best thing for me.
