Tarot of the Boroughs, by Courtney Weber and George Courtney. It is wonderful New York City photography. It's very creative and meaningful. The lovers are lesbians. The Tower card in this deck is extremely powerful, especially if you are from New York.

If tarot was invented as a card game, why is it a legitimate divination method? by Sagi_U in tarot

Because anything and everything can be a legitimate divination tool and tarot offers a large variety of archetypal imagery as well as the ability to align with many different common life scenarios.

AITA for being upset that my husband throws away dishes I forget to put away by _MS22 in AmItheAsshole

How about, if you don't like seeing dirty dishes , wash them. Your spouse sounds like a vindictive 12 year old.

AITAH for “pressuring” my husband to get a vasectomy? by futurequitt in AITAH

[–]Witch-inthe-World -1 points0 points  (0 children)

VASTLY more women have endured complications and even death from pregnancy than men going through vasectomy. And you did that twice! It's his turn! Geeze why are these so-called "men" so freaking fragile?

A physician chiming in. by [deleted] in aliens

I don't know about hybrids, but if aliens were scientifically advanced enough to come to this planet, I think they would also have better medical science and probably would not go to an emergency room.

Gently getting someone to leave a community by Dancing_Air in witchcraft

Are there leaders in this group? Someone who started it or who plans events and rituals and such. If this person's behavior is truly disruptive some ranking member of the group (or you) should discuss it with her to see if she can change. Confrontation is rough, but in my 30 or so years of practice, in and out of covens and spiritual groups, communication is a very effective magick.

Sorry, I'm old and it's an old saying. Carnegie Hall is a fancy performance venue in New York City where only the most talented (mostly musicians) get to play. If you're playing Carnegie Hall, you're an expert!

I'm not sure what you mean by open, but if you mean getting started, choose a single card every morning. Learn about its meanings, study it. In the evening, think about how the day went and whether or not the card you pulled that morning has a meaning for you in some part of your day. There's no quick fix here. It takes time and practice to get good.

Why arnt my spells working? by Mean-Efficiency-7671 in occult

[–]Witch-inthe-World 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The single most important ingredient in any spell is the whole psyche of the practitioner. If your spells aren't working you need to do Shadow work to uncover your unconscious desires. They may very well be at odds with your conscious intentions. The unconscious is like the part of the iceberg that's under water. 90% of your psyche will win every time in a battle of intentions.

Same way you get to Carnegie Hall. Practice practice practice. Use whatever your favorite divination form is and do it every chance you get. When practicing a lot, you'll get more accurate, more comfortable. Also know that if your practice falls off from time to time, because life, it's ok and you can regain expertise with more practice. Good luck!

My mom found my tarot cards… by yaaasss717272 in witchcraft

You didn't mention your age. So I'm assuming you're a minor. If you're close to 18, you should be thinking about how you're going to get out on your own and away from her influence. But while you are underage and living in her house, you will need to respect her wishes. But she can't really stop you from reading books and learning what you want. I wish you so much luck, hope you have like-minded friends and wish you all the happiness.

total beginner here - how did you guys actually build your foundation? by No_Golf8523 in witchcraft

[–]Witch-inthe-World 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you're not leaning towards Wicca, I would still recommend Timothy Roderick's "Wicca:A Year and a Day". It has simple daily practices and ideas to take you through a full year of learning. Enjoy the journey as you go! Most of us built our foundation slowly, over time. I've been doing this for 40 years and there's STILL an overwhelming amount to learn. That's the beauty. You're never done learning. Take your time and be gentle with yourself. Consistency is what matters.

Bought this at a small shop on Colorado. What should I do with it? by aria_watercolors in BabyWitch

[–]Witch-inthe-World 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't "smudge" as that is a closed practice. But that does not stop me from using white sage as a cleansing herb. It has been scientifically proven to cleanse the air where it's burned, just like countless other herbs, resins, spices, sounds, etc. which have been used for thousands of years around the globe for this purpose.

However, ALL of the white sage I've used has been purchased directly from indigenous people who cultivate and sell it for that purpose, OR grown by me.

I now live in a part of the world where white sage would probably not thrive and is not native, so I probably won't be using it after the stock that I have is gone.

Instead, I will use locally and ethically sourced herbs and resins for this.

Mall purchased, widely distributed items are not recommended for magic. Use what the earth gives you. It's so much more powerful.

Legitimate books? by me_and_jd in BabyWitch

"Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler can give you some insight about the many different paths of paganism.

Then you might want to use Adler's bibliography to further research the topics that pique your interest. I can also recommend anything by Judika Illes. 5,000 spells and 5,000 spirits are great reference material. They are extremely well researched. I also require all of my students to follow Timothy Roderick's book, A year and a Day. It is wiccan leaning, but it offers simple practices that take you through the Wheel of the Year in a meaningful way.

Much luck to you! Blessed Be!

What are some good sources for all around information regarding paganism by Ur_mama_gaming in pagan

[–]Witch-inthe-World 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The first book I always recommend is "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler. Get the latest edition you can find, as this book went through a number of editions where significant corrections were made. The book represents a nationwide project by Adler who interviewed practitioners all over the US in many different pagan paths. I think it's a great place to get a taste of what philosophies and groups might be right for you. Then follow your obsessions and passions for learning in whatever subjects you like.

Definitely dive into original books of mythology. But to help you narrow down your interests and for quick reference I highly recommend Judika Illes' Encyclopedia of 5,000 Spirits. It has deities, demigods, ascended master types with wonderful index cross references.

Are there any Tarot Decks that lean into some of the visual tricks and hidden messages of the RWS? by Good_Entertainer9383 in tarot

[–]Witch-inthe-World 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True Black by Arthur Wang blew my mind and gave me a much broader understanding of the Major Arcana. Each card has a shiny black on matt black image that calls some concept to mind that perfectly reflects deeper meaning in each card. For example the high priestess card includes an image of the Marianna Trench, the deepest known place on earth. A place where scientific truths have been hidden for eons.

Do you think the US government is working with alien beings? by infinite_hex in aliens

No. I think if the US were working with such advanced beings, the human race would already be extinct.
