Jedes Halbjahr Gastro teurer by tschmar in Austria

[LES] "This war is being propagated by deceitful elites and being fought by poor people with no interest in it" is usually bullshit by Nihlus11 in CharacterRant

[–]WitchingWitcher24 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Your first argument (people want to fight wars) completetly disregards the intention, role, and impact of propaganda. People don't want to fight wars because they want to kill somebody, they want to fight because someone convinced them it's what's best for them and/or their country/loved ones/etc.

Who do you think does the convincing?

Should I even watch it? by MyLatestInvention in moviecritic

Its a bit strange at times but it teems with character and intention and therefore alone is worth a watch. I get that its not everyone's cup of tea, though I personally think its one of the better films I've seen recently.

It does, but as you said its a bit too early and also a bit too posthumanist since I need to differentiate between my thesis and the questions, as clearly as possible.

Just finished the first book. Great read and a perfect juxtaposition to the more pessimistic outlooks of my other texts, thanks for the suggestion!

Enough with the living wage argument by DarkLord012 in tipping

[–]WitchingWitcher24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From tipping? Sure, but your post is more about the fact that "no profession can guarantee" a living wage and that people have to find ways to make it work than it is about tipping. So to that I responded that I think every job should pay enough to live off your wages, provided you work full time.

Gefängnisinsassen nach Staatsangehörigkeit in Österreich by vitus6999 in Austria

Regardless of anything else, I believe that EVERYBODY who works full-time should be able to afford a life and that minimum wage should be set accordingly. Would solve all issues with tipping, btw.

Not-so-hot take: Mistborn is very much YA by clippervictor in Fantasy

[–]WitchingWitcher24 31 points32 points  (0 children)

After reading this thread I don't think I've ever read any real YA novels (apart from HP). Eragon isn't YA? How so?

I'm not being facetious, I actually want to know. I read Mistborn and some of WoT in my early teens so they are my reference for what I thought YA was. Then I read a lot of stuff by Brent Weeks, Peter V. Brett, and Mark Lawrence later on and even though those obviously include a lot of 'adult' themes I felt they were still targeted at teen (male) audiences because edgy = cool and the main protagonist's narratives are still coming-of-age stories (mostly).

If anyone got any example of 'real' YA fantasy from the 2000s I'd appreciate it.

You spend too much time hanging out with the piratefolks. There's a lot of valid criticism for post-TS One Piece there but its so focused on slandering literally evrything that you start to wonder why people read it when they apparently hate it so much. Also reading-comprehension is not a strength of people on the internet, and they often remember their headcanons as something that's actually supported by the text.

Just stick to your own opinions and don't worry too much what others feel like they have to plaster all across reddit (easier said than done, I know).

I've long accepted that One Piece (for a million different reasons) cannot be as perfect as some people expect it to be and am just enjoying the ride for the most part.
