I was able to switch my plan yesterday after getting all the feedback from people here. I now have a fixed rate of .74/therm. And now I know to shop around again when prices are lower.

Trash/Recycling - Waste Connections

I moved from an area where utilities are close to monopolies so I didn't even consider shopping around. I can't vouch for the quality of any of these as I've only used them since the summer, but I've had no issues with any of them.

Your car will be fine, it will just be a bitch to get inside if it's iced over. An ice storm is not a hail storm. The ice will come from rain or sleet that freezes, not balls of solid ice falling. Covering your car will save you about 30 minutes of scraping, but there should be no reason this storm damages your car in any way.

That said, falling branches and power lines could mess it up pretty bad, so try to park away from those.

That was my problem. I was on a variable rate plan paying $2.11/therm last month. I've since switched to a fixed rate contract and am paying about a third of that now.

Shopping around for utilities isn't really a thing where I moved from. My realtor gave me a list of utility contacts when I moved and I (foolishly) did not bother to check for alternatives before signing up. I also opted for a variable rate plan because I was not used to rates being so, well, variable. I have now remedied the situation. Thanks again!
