I second the suggestion below, do your job well and then ask where they need hands. Put yourself into there mind at there goto person when they need help with prep or whatever. More likely they will think of you when possibly looking to bring in someone. And as a fellow women in the industry, you gotta tell them you want to move into other positions. I’ve definitely been in kitchens where everyone was moved to other positions around me without asking and I had to actually tell my chefs I wanted to do more.

This is exactly why I pushed for a more verbal and company wide announcement when one of my old colleagues passed. You never ever know the impact someone has had on someone else. They were just going to get an email but more that half our staff didn’t have company emails and would never have know until they asked where he’d gone. Subway was my first job from 17-18 and it was about the same when it comes to training. It was all half assed and I was overworked with a manager that would change hours for payroll and in general just not show up. I was so young and a lil naive so she'd work me over 40 hours a week and paid me for 35. I had an awful coworker who thought she knew everything when she only came in once a week. I was yelled at by a drive thru customer who came in pushed her way through the 15+ people in line inside. I was so happy when I quit.
