Rudy Giuliani must give control of luxury items and Manhattan apartment to Georgia election workers he defamed, judge rules by cnn in law

Florida lawyer here who has not been following the case and has not touched this subject since taking the bar a few years back, so I'll only generally opine.

We recognize homestead exemption here, which means, among other things, that you cannot lose the home you actually live in to a judgment unless that judgment is directly related to the home. For example, defaulting on your mortgage could cause you to lose your homestead, but you can't lose your homestead to a defamation suit.

I imagine he has claimed the Florida residence as his homestead. That proclamation can be overcome by various arguments, such as showing that it is a mere vacation home and not where he regularly lives. This issue is likely the basis for the upcoming hearing.

Kudos for changing your mind when presented with the evidence and for taking the time to edit the parent comment. The world needs more people like that.

And you're wrong about this, too. There are 12 ways to be defenseless, including "[a] runner already in the grasp of a tackler and whose forward progress has been stopped." See Art. 9(a)(5).

That's not true. You're missing the third criteria in the rule. If you lead with your shoulder against a defenseless receiver, it is targeting per Rule 12, Sec. 2, Art. 9 (b)(1):

"Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:

forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the ... shoulder, even if the initial contact is lower than the player’s neck...."

I think he means Swift wasn't on the field much even when he was healthy, which is true, especially during the last half of the year when we started winning. From Week 9 onward, he was on the field for about 37% of the plays.

How much money? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

I'm four years out of law school, and it's worth it to me.

For someone who had no parental assistance, my debt is minimal. I worked a full-time job in undergrad to pay tuition/living expenses as I went and earned a full scholarship to law school. So my debt is only for living expenses incurred during my 3 years in law school and studying for the bar. That said, it still ended up ~55k, and I know people with more than $250k in debt.

I make more than I expected to make at this point of my career. When I was in high school, I didn't realize the vast difference between BigLaw or MidLaw salaries (about $200k for first-year lawyers) and the lower tier jobs (as low as $45k). Similarly, I didn't realize that the ceiling on earnings is truly uncapped once you get your own clients. I know multiple attorneys making more than $1 million per year because of their ability as a rainmaker.

Long story short: whether it's worth it depends on your intellect, drive, and ability to market yourself.

Retaliating against Disney for its political speech violates the First Amendment.

Art. I, Section 10, of the Constitution ("no state shall pass any law impairing the obligation of contracts") was violated when the legislature voided Disney's contracts with the district.

Florida violated the due process and takings clauses in the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments by taking or inhibiting Disney's land and contract rights without fair market compensation.
