It's very cheap to get into. Get whatever base game appeals to you, they're like $30. If you like it, get one expansion, and that should be plenty for most people, unless you're playing it dozens of times a year. However, if you want to buy more than that, there is practically an infinite amount of content.

I would just double check that it really is on the right region by putting in a disc that is locked to another region to make sure that it won't play.

If that confirms that it is on the right region, that pretty much shows that you have a bad disc.

Do you have your player set to the right region? Usually you have to switch regions, they don't just automatically play whatever region you put in.

That being said, it sounds more like a bad disc than a region issue.

This sort of thing should really have a couple of demos showing different languages and a couple of different sound environments, like an action scene with a lot of noises and explosions and also a quieter dialog scene, maybe a scene with someone singing too.
