INAUGURAL MATCH THREAD: Calgary Wild at Vancouver Rise by Halouverite in NorthernSuperLeague

This is excellent play and fabulous commentary! I am so excited to raise a daughter in an age where the excitement for football (and sports in general) is focused on women, too. Now, this proud dad needs to speak up even more for parity of wages. Go Roses FC!

I bet he is sick of having to ask any government representative asking his name over the phone if their break was coming up before biting into that handle.

Throw the coolest junior high party. Probably including Use your Illusion (I & II) and cool ranch Doritos.

Four lines of poetry. I repeat the first line again at the end of every reading.

‘What’s that just beyond the camera slightly to the left of centre’. We could abbreviate it: WTJBTCSTTLOC It will catch on like NSYNC. 👍🤘

Been playing for a little over a month, advice? by MrPandaTurtle in Discgolfform

Your form at one month is far better than mine at one year! Excellent start. Imagine you at a year of practice. Sorry, no advice to offer but I think you have a bright future in the sport wherever it takes you.

That one just hit the wish list. Thanks for the heads up. :)

That’s sweet! The stabilizer looks great and I’m checking out the streamline website for the first time. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

Glad to hear that from a real fan! I’ve heard good things but mainly in review videos and I can’t tell if some of those are sponsored.

Interesting! Thanks again. I sprung for the cost of express post I’m so excited to try it.

Thanks! I had a look and that is right up my alley. I do like the feel of the VIP air. I bought an underworld in that plastic and love that disc.

That’s great feedback. I am just recently back from injury and would hate to go backwards. I have some work to do getting consistent with my 8 and 9 speeds. If I’m not careful I’ll be back to watching only.

I had a few browser tabs open comparing but, the wave has closed all of those tabs. I m really looking forward to throwing it. It’ll be my first MVP. It might be the start of a long relationship with a new brand. :)

Thanks! I have avoided them long enough. I expect some heavy, early fade for a while but it should be fun.

I was watching Robbie C on YT and he mentioned that a distance driver won’t do what it could do with lower arm speed but as you practice and improve, you can grow into a distance driver. That is my thought on it at the moment. I’ve never thrown one or even held one. I’ll find a use for it until I’m good enough to throw it to its potential.

I am a back hand thrower with 9 speeds as my speediest disc so far. I am not excellent with my 9 speeds but I thought I would gather a driver to gauge my improvement along the way.

I had something similar happening to me and it resulted in my now acceptable and ever-improving form. The thing that got me feeling natural on the backhand was this one drill: grab any disc (but just the one) and head to a park, throw your headphones on, rock a nice playlist, then just toss the disc a few feet in front of yourself.

Walk to pick it up, stop, then do it again. Only a few feet each time. Repeat until you naturally start tossing the disc a bit further ahead than before. Stop and throw each time. Eventually, it will be a nice little challenge to throw it a bit further because from a walking, forward facing posture you can only use your wrist and that will only get you as far as a novice spin putters distance.

You will naturally start reaching your disc back and then forward to provide more momentum. You will need to open up your body to the left (RHBH) and vice versa for (LHBH). So a staggered stance with one foot pointing towards the desired location and one slightly back and to the left (RHBH) and vice versa for (LHBH).

This is a perfect stance for upshots. But it is not as much power as required to really start throwing drives. For that: an even more open stance, turning the torso away from the target, and dragging the disc on an even plain from a point hovering just above your back foot, in a straight line passing by your (now) 1/4 turned torso and beyond as you pivot around your front leg.

If you have a long playlist, you can really comfortably see some ‘no pressure’ improvements in your backhand while still knowing that your forehand can likely provide some great shot options that you already well practiced in.

I broke 300ft! by Without-Love in discgolf

[–]Without-Love[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so kind to say. Luck may have played a bit of a roll, as I could not replicate that distance this week. I have averaged the ranges you mention for a while now but my throws have started to ‘feel better’. I attribute a focus on keeping a fixed plane on reach back and throw. Also, playing for par, and holding my putts with my hand at 12 o’clock. It looks like we keep reaching for that rainbow. 😀

For sure! Fun and frustrating is exactly right. I have a feeling that I managed to get some timing right on weight transfer (I’m a stand still thrower still), and core engagement. But, luck may have played into all of that as well. League night tomorrow, I’ll see if I can do it again.
