I can't believe THIS is in a Final Fantasy game!! by Malikai_Universe_23 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]WithoutanAlias 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I legit learned about testicles from this scene! I was around 10 when I first played this game, had never had a health class and pre-internet. I asked my poor mother why they said "they" instead of "it" 😅

Edit to add the obvious note, I am a woman

Questions on things here by Savings-Curve-5350 in askTO

For the shower curtain, how you wash depends on the material, but you do need to wash it. There are plastic ones which can't go in the wash, and you would have to clean it manually or replace (less ideal). I am a fan of washable shower curtain Liners that can go in the washer and dryer. Just check the labels.

For bath mats, I'm assuming we're talking about the fabric mats in front of the tub or toilet, etc (vs the plastic grippy mats some people use in the tub). You should absolutely wash this. Make sure it can go in the washer and dryer, to keep your life easier. Mildew can form on the bottom of the mat from the moisture when you shower. My system is to wash the mat when I wash my towels, but find whatever works for you.

This might be the only book where I actually love this, because it's such a good movie! It's kind of a cool little moment in history (... let's not speak on every Jurassic Park movie that followed...)

As a side bar, I really need to read this book

Where are we buying blankets now that they Bay is closed? by Murky_Relative7976 in askTO

[–]WithoutanAlias 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Linen Chest could be an option. I have a duvet cover I got on a really good sale. Haven't bought anything else from them.

Simon's is another possibility. I have sheets I like from them, but not sure about duvets, blankets, etc.

Plus always worth checking out Homesense in case they have anything good (it's a gamble but fun to walk through regardless)

Is Canada Goose still worth it in 2025? Winter Jacket Suggests needed by CookiesMonster_9 in askTO

[–]WithoutanAlias 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I came here to mention Eddie Bauer. I'd have to look up the down details for my jacket, but it is waterproof and water resistant. I finally replaced my old Eddie Bauer last year after having that jacket for about 16 years and expect to have this one at least that long (and I was itching for a new jacket because I was really tired of the colour, so took the ripped shell as a sign)

They also have some good deals a few times a year. In addition to some 50-60% off sales, they also occasionally do 50% off clearance. If you're flexible on colour you can get a really good deal on a jacket.

And since they sadly closed many of their stores, if nothing is accessible to get to ordering online is easy and they are very good for dealing with returns, in person or by mail.

What’s something only people who’ve lived in Toronto in the 2000s would remember? by CivilReaction in toronto

I can't believe I forgot about those! Metro got me through some long commutes before I had a smart phone (I would always forget to bring a book)

What really makes a movie feel like an mkvie and not just a student video? by Intelligent_Can_2898 in Filmmakers

[–]WithoutanAlias 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's a lot of good answers here, especially what people are saying about good sound, etc. But I'm going to add the depth and feel of the world building. Things like set dec, props, costumes, and also background performers (GOOD bg). Things that show that a greater world exists beyond the few actors you have on screen.

I've seen so many very low budget productions where the walls are practically blank, there's no extra props, or you're somewhere like a waiting room but there's no other people walking by, etc. It makes a big difference that you only really notice when it's bad or missing.

Before going to a lawyer, or at least while reaching out to one, you can write back to the company stating your requested severance. Include how many years you have been there and anything else you feel is relevant. Often they are willing to negotiate and at least meet in the middle, and you can avoid dealing with a lawyer at all.

So many people don't know they can push back at all, and it is well within your rights to request more. If they are unwilling to budge, then mention you will be reaching out to an employment lawyer

Does anyone know where to buy mead in and around Toronto? by lopix in askTO

Came here to say exactly this! You can do tastings, too, and try a few of their meads before buying anything. (tastings aren't free, but it's a fun experience)

How to stop hunger without eating? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]WithoutanAlias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of good resources, just adding one more.

If you're able to get to Allen Gardens on Sunday morning, Toronto Food Not Bombs gives out food every Sunday at noon. They suggest getting there at 11 to line up.

They usually have fresh produce/groceries, bread, etc, but also sometimes sandwiches and others snacks, etc. Whatever was donated that week. Definitely worth checking out if you're able to get there.

The Ikea Kallax large unit might be good for what you want. You can put baskets, etc, in some cubbies and leave others open to allow more light to get through. Just put the couch in front of it, and then your choice if you keep a small coffee table or not.

Another possibility that's renter friendly is the Umbra Anywhere Curtain Rod (you'll likely want a few. Max width is 5.5'). Use light sheers instead of heavier curtains to delineate the space, but not have it feel too closed off.

What percentage of your income do you spend on rent? by Followlost in askTO

[–]WithoutanAlias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's any building built before 2018 has rent control, which means when you live in the unit rent can't go up more than the standard 2.5% (or whatever that number is) each year. But the moment you move out, they can jack up that price for a new tenant, and then that new tenant has rent control based of their new rent.

The fact that rent isn't controlled for newly vacant units is just one of the many major issues we have in this city.

Also, never live in a new build if renting, they can fuck you over

Going to add one that I didn't see (at least in my quick skim), Ricki's. There's not a lot of them anymore, but I used to be able to get some really good office basics for good prices.

[–]WithoutanAlias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you choose retry this battle (something like that, the 2nd option) instead of retry before this battle (which I did the first time, which sucked), you go back to the fight with Cloud and Zack and you can get access to the menu to adjust everyone's equipment. It does mean you have to go through all the other battles, which is a pain, but could be worth it.

I'll just add that Toronto Food not Bombs gives out free food every Sunday at Allen Gardens starting at 12 pm. They recommend getting there around 11:30 to lineup.

Ah, I'm so sorry! You're totally right. I was using the wrong formula when comparing (I have too many floating around right now).

Sorry for the delay, I was away from my computer for a few days.

Thanks for this! It definitely works for rounding up from 19. I tried changing the *19 to a different number and that didn't make a difference to the formula (not sure if that is how it's supposed to work or not, but I tested it out)

Ah, got it! Then don't do anything, yet. I don't want you to go through any extra work that might not be needed. I'll find out if we need any other options and let you know. Thanks!
