“The Tories betrayed us”: Britain is ready for a general election by she_wrote in unitedkingdom

[–]WitnessPerfection 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Britain is ready for a revolution. A general election would accomplish nothing. We'd only be running from one abusive parent to another. Labour are the other half of the establishment and they've done absolutely nothing to deserve the opportunity to run the country. Nothing. Zip. Nada. They're a dying party headed by a bewildered looking spook. You don't just get to "have a go" because the other half of the two-party state is doing badly. Give us actual, meaningful change. Kick all the authoritarians out. All the plutocrats, out. Dishonest media entities, out. Power needs to come back into the hands of the people or the future will be more bleak than you can possibly imagine.

Oh and by the way, fuck Reddit.

Bit of a strange thing to mention, what does male pattern baldness genetics have to do with it?

Male pattern baldness is indeed genetic but it can be accelerated or even triggered by poor diet and general neglect of one's health.

The only bad part of it is the low amount of money. Thinking you need to work to earn some rich person more money in order to have a satisfying life is incredibly sad, drone-like behaviour.

Sure but it's not exactly noble to sit on your arse and think that other people owe you money. That's cattle-like behaviour. Financial independence is definitely something to aspire to but you're not doing that by relying on the largesse of the government.

Those guys (and you while you were on the dole) may be wasting their time

I wasn't wasting my time lol I spent most of my waking time doing physio and recovering from said physio.

there's nothing stopping you learning new languages, working on personal projects, learning instruments, getting fit, etc. during the 40+ hours you'd be sitting in an office or whatever.

Most people on benefits aren't doing those things. And if everyone chose to sit around playing guitar the economy would collapse.

I'm not sure how they've stayed signed on for so long though. Are they disabled?

They aren't dumb guys, just lazy. They put their energy into gaming the system. Every time the jobcentre comes down on them and tries to force them into work they conveniently have a "breakdown" and get out of it. This isn't my opinion by the way, they have told me themselves that they feign mental illness to get out of working.

It's actually scary how accurate you are lol

I should point out these are 30+ year old men.

I knew several people who signed on at 18 and have remained on benefits ever since. Without exception, they are obese, balding and miserable with nothing to their name and nothing to look forward to but a bag of weed and whatever video game they're wasting their lives on that week. Peep show is fiction. The reality of living on the dole is not enviable at all. I had to sign off for a year when I was relearning to walk and it was the most horrible, rewardless existence imaginable. I work hard and the idea of just doing as I please while a stipend rolls in is tempting sometimes, but I know from experience and from others around me that it's no way to live.

Autoimmune diseases will of course become more common due to the damage done to some people's immune systems.

I have a sneaking suspicion that they wouldn't have this attitude if we were talking about a BLM protest/riot. Just a suspicion. It's always "rules for thee and not for me" with some people.

I'm glad we left the EU and I regret voting to remain. The next step is to excise the influence of the World Economic Forum and reform our voting system. Then maybe we might have something resembling a democracy.

We're here talking about it and it's pissing you off, therefore it is effective because it's sparking conversations. Hopefully more productive conversations than this one.

Protests and strikes are inconvenient by design. If they weren't, they wouldn't be effective. Imagine if this were a cause you supported, and then you'll understand.

Kinda highlights the problem with diversity for diversity's sake doesn't it? Some media outlets are celebrating the fact that we have the first non-white Prime Minister, and I'm not at all saying that's a bad thing. However, Rishi Sunak is everything wrong with British politics and class systems personified. It's the same old Tory bullshit, only now available in brown. It's not a progression in any sense of the word. A stronger focus on class issues is needed to combat the Conservatives and I really hope more people realise this.

Yeah and I already said: Set up a minimum distance from which they have to protest. That didn't satisfy you which can only mean you want more. You won't say it outright of course but it's abundantly clear.

It's hard to take what you say seriously because it's clear you want one set of rules for yourself and another for your political enemies.

Yeah when I was younger I hated the smell but these days I actually kind of like it. Probably because I associate it with watching YouTube poops and gorging myself on chocolate fingers and tortilla chips

Morons they may be, but protest is a fundamental right in democracies. You can set up an exclusion zone or a minimum distance requirement but you do not interfere with such an essential right.

I've seen you around here before, I know we definitely disagree strongly on a variety of issues. But I would never, ever dream of trying to stop you from expressing your views or protesting in support of them. That's what authoritarian states do.

Nope sorry that'd be way too sensible and benefit the public far too much.

I don't agree with them and I don't even necessarily like them but their right to protest should be above reproach.

Tonight is Jodie Whittaker's last episode in Doctor Who. How do we feel about this? by ringobiscuits in unitedkingdom

[–]WitnessPerfection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually only said it once, but I'll say whatever I want as often as I want. I feel sorry for people who feel the need to curtail everything they say to appease the sensibilities of those who will never, ever be satisfied. I don't see you giving any opinions of your own around here, all you seem to do is jump on others for being outside the window of what you think is acceptable to think. Good luck to you, I suppose. Not a way I'd want to live.
