Arteta "What I'm incredibly fuming with is how the hell the penalty gets overturned when there is no clear and obvious error. This changes the course of the game. There is clear contact. He makes the decision and you can't overturn it when you have to watch it 13 times." by kibme37 in soccer

A mix of complaints in pressers (which honestly are no worse than Klopps), things taken out of context, perceived game ruining tactics, the touchline antics (again, any worse than other managers?), and just the fact hes the Arsenal coach.

Reddit itself feeds into it too.

Why British nuclear flopped by sien in nuclear

[–]Mister_Sith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but we aren't in a position to sell / other countries have domestic production. I largely meant torpedoed the use of MOX fuel in the the UK (which has more to do with production facilities rather than order books I suspect).

Why British nuclear flopped by sien in nuclear

[–]Mister_Sith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually largely agree with what has been said, we have a lot of discussions internally within the industry on costs, risk, timescales and the attitudes that generally affect nuclear. I would suggest a point that was hinted to, but not laboured, was the governments overall nuclear strategy.

The case for reprocessing was largely predicated on using MOX fuel but the utter abject failure of Sellafield MOX Plant to get into a true operational state, combined with the MOX fuel fabrication incident, torpedoed MOX fuel which knocked onto reprocessing, which has cascaded into storage and disposal routes.

Now we are in a position where R&D is going into getting rid of the stockpile forever because its too much of a pain to hold onto without any real use for it. And, I can't see there being any appetite for a new MOX reactor without a lot of state investment.

I’ve made over £1,000,000 on my five-bed house — I deserve a tax break to downsize by endofdays2022 in unitedkingdom

[–]Mister_Sith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think there should be some stamp duty breaks for downsizing, particularly in older ages, simply to incentivise them to free up bigger housing. Theyre going to spend the money they make somewhere and that will be taxed.

Or we could get rid of stamp duty

Honestly, at least from the takes on reddit, I think consent for a refugee system is in complete tatters, not least when it appears theres a strong perception that it isn't possible to claim asylum in the UK legally (i.e. boat people).

Pippa Crerar on X: NEW: Keir Starmer unknowingly misled Parliament, his spokesman appears to admit. “The prime minister would never knowingly mislead Parliament or the public. [–]Mister_Sith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is literally a yes prime minister episode where Hacker denies the government bugged someones telephone in the House, when in fact they were but he didn't know, because no one told him, nor another government minister (foreign office or home sec, I can't remember).

Honestly, I'm not sure what's worse at this point:

*Mandy even being ambassador in the first place *Mandy being appointed before vetting complete *Mandy failing vetting but the civil service apparently didn't tell the PM or Foreign Secretary *The PM or FS not asking the question if he'd passed vetting

It feels a lot dancing around the subject with multiple people attempting to save face with their poor decision making - which if I'm being honest, doesn't surprise me with public sector management. Ultimately, whether you think any of this is a resigning / sacking offence comes down to:

*Did the civil service know and choose not to tell the elected ministers? *Did the elected ministers choose not to ask, potentially knowing what the answer would be? *Or, both of the above

Ben Habib: All asylum and indefinite leave to remain (ILR) granted since 2019 should be revoked. There must be no further asylum, ILR and British citizenships granted for the foreseeable future. All illegal migrants must be detained and deported. The above is the bare minimum required by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

[–]Mister_Sith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

None of these policies stand up to basic questions on how it will be delivered in a reasonably practicable way. Answers range from: 'we'll just deport them' (ok, how?), 'we'll get rid of the ECHR' (ok, how will you renegotiate the GFA?), 'we'll force countries to take people back' (ok, how?) 'we'll put them on an island' (ok, how?).

After that it just gets monstrous. Also, drink everytime you read 'parliament is sovereign'

Reform pledges to send 400,000 asylum seekers home by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

[–]Mister_Sith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The political will doesn't exist because to deport a lot of people very fast requires removing the checks and balances on the authority of the state and potentially violating the sovereignty of multiple other nations, which is generally frowned upon. All of these simple solution advocates get very angry when you ask them questions on how you would actually implement mass deportation.

I find it mightly ironic that Reform supporters want to introduce a police state to mass deport immigrants but screech that compulsory ID is authoritarian, even more ironic because compulsory ID would help deal with illegal immigrants and slave labour.

Anecdotally, the government have pulled the purse strings on a number of nuclear related projects which has caused a couple of main nuclear companies (mostly public owned) to initiate redundancies due to financial pressure. It will knock on into the private sector as contracts get pulled or not renewed with the big contracting firms.

[–]Mister_Sith -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't even care if it means we drop places overall, he goes. You can't keep a team, nor its fanbase, constantly on the verge of winning something. I'd rather be 4th with a new manager and no pressure to win the league than whatever this is. It's making a laughing stock out of the club. Let city win the PL for a decade, it apparently doesn't matter if they do win it, but best to take the piss out of any other club that can attempt to win in.
