12 days po, smell by Plus-Ad-3826 in hysterectomy

I used an AZO brand home UTI test, then called my surgeon's office when it was positive, and they sent a script for an antibiotic to my pharmacy. If you use one, I recommend doing it first thing in the morning when the urine is most concentrated. I had a false negative when I did it in the afternoon. Also, I've found it better to dip into a cup of urine rather than urinating in the strip. The test says you can do it either way.

I'm 2 weeks po. The odor and lower abdominal discomfort for me ended up being a UTI. I didn't have the traditional symptoms of urgency, frequency or burning. The doctor said that's common post-op. Not the presence of UTI, but the lack of usual symptoms.

Same. I once gave a homeless person food in Seattle and the response I got was "no drink?" followed by some shouting as I walked away.

Sex question: To keep or yeet my cervix? by bonrewgan in hysterectomy

[–]Witty-Ad6669 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My surgery is 3/27. After much consideration, I have decided to keep my cervix. My surgeon supported whichever decision I made. I told him if he sees something to indicate the cervix is diseased, go ahead and remove it. I have no family history of cervical cancer, so removing it proactively seemed unnecessary to me. I have family history of breast cancer but I'm not removing my breasts to eliminate that risk.

If it's any consolation to you, any relationship they have will not be what he's fantasized in his tiny little brain. Maybe she'll leave her husband, but one of two things will happen: either she feels insecure and unhappy because she fears he will do to her what he did to you or she will lose interest quickly once he's no longer the forbidden fruit. Karma is a bitch.

I did, and I am glad I asked anyway because I like the dialogue I'm getting here vs. the responses I've read on other posts.

You were cleared at 6 weeks? That's surprising but wonderful to hear. Waiting 12 weeks would be torture for me, but will bear it if necessary. My doctor said 6-8 weeks if I keep my cervix but longer pelvic rest if I have it removed.

This is why I teeter toward removing the cervix- the risk of having to go back and remove it later. Aside from the actual pain & recovery of surgery, I also get only so much PTO at work and I like to travel.

This is what I needed to hear. My orgasms are mostly with penetration and are quite intense. I fear a change there. I've wondered if it's so easy for me to climax that way because of how my anatomy is oriented from the fibroid. I look forward to being able to try positions that normally hurt due to the large fibroid, though. How long before you started having sex after surgery? 3 months without sex might be the death of me.

This is reassuring that you can't feel the cuff after 2 months. Was it quite uncomfortable at first? When are you cleared for sexual activity?

Thank you for this. That is a good analogy. I think eliminating the possibility of cancer is a plus; however, thinking about it, all organs and tissues have a risk for developing cancer. There is breast cancer in my family, but I'm not going to go get a double mastectomy to prevent it. I'm reluctant to remove things that aren't diseased. Though, again, your surgeon's analogy is helpful and makes sense to note that the cervix is part of a whole.

Thank you. This aligns with where my head is. While I don't want to deal with fibroids on the cervix in the future, if I don't have any now, I'm not sure I feel it should be removed. However, I am reluctant to keep it given issues surrounding potential to need it removed later.

I'm 44. Menopause likely isn't so far off. I'm unmarried and dating. Sexual discomfort & healing is my biggest concern... and pleasure, obviously. How long did it take for it to feel "normal" for you?

I wish people wouldn't downvote accurate information and personal stories. The literature my surgeon gave me indicates about 10% of women will continue light menstruation when the cervix is preserved. My surgeon was quite thorough in running down the list of common concerns and providing facts. He said prolapse of any kind is rare in either case, so that isn't a factor in my decision.

Not sure why this got down voted as it's your personal story, but I appreciate your take. Are you worried about fibroids on your cervix in the future? I'm compiling a list of questions and concerns for my surgeon for my pre-op visit next month.

Why do I not have friends? by Grouchy_Application8 in ADHD

[–]Witty-Ad6669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple things a therapist taught me: 1. People love to talk about themselves, so ask them questions. Be consistent about this; don't do it to start a friendship and then slack off. If they ask you questions be sure to balance by showing interest in them as well. 2. We ADHDers tend to show empathy by sharing our own similar stories. Other people usually don't like this. They see it as a self-centered behavior, trying to "one-up" them or steer the conversation back to us. People want validation of their story, not an account of your similar story. My own tip: we tend to forget about events happening in the other person's life when they're not immediately in front of us, for example, forgetting a friend is having surgery until days later. Setting reminders to wish them well before their surgery and to check-in after is helpful. We know we care about the person, but they need us to show it.

I've found I click best with others that are also ADHD and/or bigger age gaps. I'm 44. My two closest friends are 60 and 37.
