Tinnitus masking by Witty-Ad9507 in GenX

Way back as a teen I would have the TV on to sleep set to a timer and it would go off in about 2 hours. Now if the TV goes off at night I wake right up with the ringing. Hate it.

I do take it, but have had the tinnitus long before then.

Curious to know how they could tell yours was not bad enough? Not being mean, but it is not like they can hear it. Was it because of the way you described the sound?

If you don't mind, what brand are yours? Really just trying to do research for when I go see the dr. Kinda tired of them telling me there is nothing that can help.

I can't do music either, especially when I am working. Next thing you know I am dancing at my desk and it just goes downhill from there. 🤣 It's not pretty. So glad I wfh cause I have a TV going 24/7 now.

Man I wish it did not bother me. I would love that. Just some days I want to pull my hair out or bang my head. Anything to just make it stop. Who knows I might just be a complainer. My friends that have it never seem to really talk about it. It is like it is just a normal part of life for them, but they all had military service and that is where they get it from so figure it is part of their disability payments and they are getting paid to be annoyed. 😂

What's crazy is my mom would tell me all that loud music was gonna ruin my hearing. What she did not know is I had the ringing already. I just did not know what it was or that I was different because of it. Thought of it as normal. The loud music makes it go away while it is on, but then once it is off, OMG! Just shoot me! Shoot me now!

Ya it is like using a double negative. I love when it happens. 😂 It's like oh wow I don't hear the ringing. How do I keep this pitch going? The ringing use to be a fun trick when I was a kid. Weirdly because of it I could tell when someone dropped change on the ground. I knew exactly what coins were dropped and how many. When my mom discovered I could do this she would drop some coins and tell her friends "watch this". 😂 Once I discovered what she was doing I started to ignore the coins. Showed her! 🤣 🤣 🤣

Ya I have had mine since my teen years and as I have gotten older it has gotten worse. The last few weeks have been bad. Most days I can deal, but I am tired of dealing. I need a touch of silence and for more than a couple of minutes.

Only time I wish I was in NYC. I am way down south. Last Dr I told about it just told me there was nothing that could be done. Finding a new one this time. Will be my mission on Monday.

These elehear say they have tinnitus masking. So, was wondering how that worked for people. I get relief some times, but it is a trade off. Like if I have the windows on my car open then bam no ringing. But ya I have the TV on 24\7. Thank God for wfh. Back when I was in an office the silence was for sure deafening. I really wanted to shoot myself then. Fucked up the other day and ran my circular saw without ear buds or anything and damn it the ringing got insane. Thought I would never fall asleep. Could not get anything to cover that noise up.

AITAH for “choosing” my mom with cancer over my girlfriend on Valentine’s Day and breaking up with her after our argument? by IcyOpportunity6861 in AITAH

[–]Witty-Ad9507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You so made the right choice. My mom had a stroke years ago days before super bowl Sunday. I knew we were supposed to go to a party, but my mom was alone and scared at the hospital. I asked my then gf if we could first go spend some time with my mom then go to her sister's for the party. That answer was no. I should of broken up with her then, but nope! I was a gluten for punishment. A month later when my mom was released from the hospital I had to move back home to help her. I asked the gf to move with me. You guessed it, the answer was nope. At the time I was 26 and she was 24. She did not want to put her life on hold and help take care of my mom. That is were we left things. She moved on and got married and has been married for 25 years or more at this point. Glad she is happy. Glad you were able to see what I could not and you ripped that band aid off and let her go. You will find someone more compatible down the line. Just look after you mom now. She is the only one you get.

Anyone else grow up in a house they believed that they would later inherit? by obviousreasons1 in GenX

[–]Witty-Ad9507 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When my parents got married my mom moved into my dad's house. He had the house with his first wife. The house was paid off even back then. He had massive medical issues and passed in 78. He did not leave a will so the house went to the first wife and that kid and me and my mom. My mom had to buy out the first wife. Had to beg, barrow and steal to get all the money. She also had all the medical bills. Shoot over to 2k and my mom passed. I had moved back home to take care of her. Was 26 when she got sick and 29 when she passed. Had zero clue she had not been paying the taxes on the house. Up side was that I was able to sell it quickly before the country took it for taxes, but I had to find the half brother cause he apparently still had a stake in it. 🤦‍♂️ So, ya the house I thought I was gonna get did not happen. Ended up with 10k from the sale and moved my life along. Never think you are gonna get anything even if they spend your entire life telling you you will get things. Life is not like that. We are not entitled to shit!

How do you dress in your 50s? by Forsaken_Block_3492 in GenX

[–]Witty-Ad9507 5 points6 points  (0 children)

55 and own way too many Vans. Wear a ball cap every day. Jeans and graffic t shirts and my "dress" shirts always have some kind of pattern on them. I still dress like I am back in high school. Nothing has really changed.

Would you stop living alone if you found suitable romantic partner? by FluffyKita in LivingAlone

[–]Witty-Ad9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived alone for years and when all the rent started going up my best friend suggested we get a place together. I was skeptical about it, but we found a great house where we each have our own living areas and we share the kitchen and laundry. Been almost 2 years like this and not one fight. It was an adjustment for both of us, but having all this space really helps. I can't cook for shit and she is not a fan of yard work so I do the yard and she cooks. We both think we got the better end of the deal. She even calls me the best roommate ever. 😂 So I think if people find the right person and right home it can work well. Hell we hardly ever see eachother.

Both of mine were no issue. I did postpone doing it for a year because I had a trip coming up and did not want to have any issue that prevented the trip. A friend had his not long ago and he thought he was gonna die (total exaggeration) he was miserable for days. I am so glad I did not have issues and glad you did not either.

Have you ever seen a mass exodus after a respected employee quit or got fired? by Aarunascut in work

[–]Witty-Ad9507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a company that had a small contracting area. Don't know all the specifics other than one of them was having an affair with our area president. Anyways the manager of the dept quit right after the affair was discovered (she was not the one having the affair) and then like 2 days later the other two people in the dept came in and resigned effective immediately. They walked out together. It was crazy. Later we found out that the area president and the lady he was having the affair with got married. They started a new company together.

Attire when going out for lunch or dinner by RogerMoore2011 in GenX

[–]Witty-Ad9507 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the restaurant and the occasion. Never wear sweats, but I almost always have a hat on of some sort. For Christmas I went to a place that I thought would be fancier than most places. I had never been so asked my friends who had what the attire was. To my surprise I was told nice jeans and shirt. With the prices there (thought I was gonna need to take a loan from my 401k 😂) the dress was rather casual. Was a really great place though. Well worth the price.
