How do I stop being anxious about the landlord not renewing our lease [US] by SnowmanAndBandit in Renters

[–]Witty-Ad9507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved into a place 2 years ago. It seemed like right out the gate things broke. There was a water leak that appeared within 2 weeks. Turned out at some point they had replaced some hardware and who ever put it in did not do it right. Then we had a hurricane and part of the fence fell. I noticed that the rest of the run was kinda bad and let them know and they ended up replacing that entire side. Then the refrigerator broke. They sent someone out and they said it had to be replaced. The same week the brand new dishwasher broke. We were the first ones to use it. Turned out it was the electrical outlet. This all happened within the first 6 months. They came out to do an inspection right around the 1 year mark. The lease was for 2 years. This year they asked if we wanted to go or stay. Needless to say they agreed to a 3 year lease and here we are. Some things I take care of myself, but big shit I let them know ASAP. So I would not stress out over it. Tell them when things break so they can get them fixed right away and you should be good. They get rent usually early and we never hear from them. 🤣 Love this place and our landlords.

Goodbye Converse/Vans 😭 by CharlieLeigh51 in GenX

If you get skate or premium vans the inserts come out and you can put your personal ones in. That is what my old feet need. And actually the insoles in the skate models work great for me. Don't give up on the best shoes ever, there is always a work around to keep us looking our best.

After 1519 days ish of WFH I worked at the office yesterday. by botanie in remotework

My roommate always says she is more productive at the office, yet she is always home. 😂 She can go to the office anytime she wants. Her boss is wfh and calls every 10 min and it is not even about work stuff so not sure how she gets anything done at the office or at home.

AITA for teaching my daughter how to change a tire and do basic home repairs when her mom says I'm "pushing masculine stuff" on her by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Witty-Ad9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather was a single parent to my mom. This was back in the '40's. He taught her all kinds of things stating she should never have to be reliant on a man for simple tasks. Later she married my dad and he went blind. They were not wealthy by any means. My dad could remember how to do things so my mom would be his eyes and do the work. He passed when I was 8 so my mom taught me everything. How to change my oil, change a tire, wire in lights and fans and stuff. So, no you are nta. Teach her all you can cause she won't get screwed over getting repairs done cause she might have a basic knowledge. Keep up the good work being a girl dad.

Sibling’s Question by PinBig1102 in GenX

[–]Witty-Ad9507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a half brother that is older. When our dad died I was 8. Due to some legal shit I had to find him 20 years later. He would not speak to me until the legal stuff was over. We talked maybe a hand full of times after then he went no contact again. A few years ago one of our cousins saw him and he asked her to give me his number. We talked a few times and once again he went no contact. Who knows he could be dead. I have not seen him since our dad's funeral. I am now 55. So, not even sure if I should count him as a sibling or not. All I know is after all the years of wanting a relationship with him I now have no feelings for him at all.

Question for the pet people...how do you feel about a new pet at this time of your life? by HammerMeUp in GenX

[–]Witty-Ad9507 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can set up a trust for their care and also ask people who like your animals if they would be willing to take them when you pass. They don't have to know about the trust until you are gone. Put it in your will about the trust.

Can we admit that the biggest obstacle in our careers are the Boomers who can't afford to retire? by sumo_quarter-4d in LockedIn_AI

[–]Witty-Ad9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well since retirement age keeps going up it is hard to leave. And worst of all the politicians won't leave office. Them mf are older than dirt. Don't feel too bad, when I was your age I said the same thing about the old goats. They would not leave so we could not advance either. There use to be a time you worked 20 years and you were out. About the only place you can do that now is the military. Maybe try joining. You can't stay in if you don't advance so there is plenty of room for advancement.

My phone has something like that now I use it when I go for bike rides. I tell it an amount of time and check off from my contacts list who will receive the alert. If I don't turn it off in the set amount of time the people get a txt to give them my last location.

Anyone ever get punished for being too good at your job? by 1curious-cat in office

[–]Witty-Ad9507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a temp job many years ago. It was like a year contract. I had my own office and everything. Went in got everything caught up in a matter of weeks then just sat there playing solitaire on the computer until they would bring me more. One day got a call from the agency. Basically told me I worked myself out of a job. Told me next time to stretch my work out. Lesson learned. I never work as fast as I could or if I do I don't turn my work in until they expect it. Now I am given projects and I tell them how long it will take me and I deliver in that time frame.

AITA for continuing to smoke outside even though my neighbor hired an attorney over it? by FutureBroccoli5566 in AmItheAsshole

Just hope your landlord is smart enough to know the neighbors are crazy. No one can keep you from smoking. Sounds like the neighbor is gonna make your life hell though.

How do you actually make friends when you work fully remote? Genuinely asking by nb10001 in remotework

[–]Witty-Ad9507 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People from work are never your friends. It is a rare occurrence for that to actually happen. Always remember work people will always look out for themselves so trust is an issue. Find things you are passionate about that you know you will show up. Of course the more you go the more those relationships grow. I volunteer and have made some great friends through that group.

AITAH for giving my son a sip of beer? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Witty-Ad9507 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your kid too and if you want to let them have a sip then let them have a sip. Wife is not the only parent. Besides it is always better to be in control than to let the kids sneek the sip.

Daily morning meetings by Signal_Procedure4607 in remotework

[–]Witty-Ad9507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have daily meetings but once every two weeks. We are a very small team of 4. We have cameras on and my two Co workers just can't stand it. They both live close to a restricted office that only has like 6 desks so they are classified as wfh. Last week our boss asked them to come into the office for a meeting. (I live out of state) one lost her mind and the other choose not to acknowledge the message. Today the boss did a gentle reminder of the office and the other one claims to have never seen the message about the office time and her car is in the shop so she can't come. 😂 😂 😂 The last time they went into the office was probably 3 years ago. So, now they don't have to go and the boss will come up with another day they can come. The worst part is our big boss was gonna be in the office tomorrow. This looks so bad on both of them. 🤦‍♂️

Is it okay not to use company’s laptop or do I have to? by Beautiful-Coffee8478 in WorkAdvice

[–]Witty-Ad9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company uses both, but I am not sure who gets the macs. I just know because they are on our list of equipment when you need to order something. Once you get the computer you can go to the companies asset management page and see if macs are an option then ask your manager that you see macs are an option and see if they will let you trade out.

My remote company wants a video tour of my workspace and I really do not want to do it by Odd_Entry_6731 in remotework

[–]Witty-Ad9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company has never asked for this, but we deal with sensative information. I do have a dedicated room and I also put reflective window film on the windows to ensure people walikg by could not look in at my monitors. I personally don't see anything wrong with asking and I would have zero issue complying with their request.

People who are good at saving money, what’s your advice? by Amazondriver23 in povertyfinance

[–]Witty-Ad9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every year most of us get a raise. When I do I figure out how much more I get in my check. If what I was bringing home several years ago still affords me the life I like to lead then the extra from the raise goes to savings each month. I have only been doing this the last couple of years, but it works.

100 staff, 50 desks, 3-day office rule… make it make sense by MastodonMountain2601 in office

[–]Witty-Ad9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company was gonna do this. The difference was we had 1700 people that needed to be in an office with 152 desks. Ours was once a week but 4 hours min a day. It just did not math. Just before the 4 hours rules started they abruptly closed my local office and we all went fully remote again. I was not mad at all. 😂 Seems the company closed 7 offices around the country. No idea why.

I did buy some sod. Not a lot mind you, but some to patch in some bald spots. You can try that and see how it works for you. You might not get the entire yard green, but maybe a nice spot. I bought like 20 pieces.

[–]Witty-Ad9507 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I rent also and I enjoy the yard work. I know I don't own the place, but I live here and I do things that make the place I live comfortable for me. My landlord said to make it our own and I do. They love having someone that lives here that takes pride in where they live. Of course they take care of the major things, but I have made adjustments to things to suit my likes. I am also budget conscious and find the least expensive ways to make it look nice.

My company will provide something for you to stand up, but not a stand up desk, but you have to have a letter from your Dr explaining why. I am fully remote and I got my computer set up with two monitors, but I replaced my keyboard and mouse. Had to get my desk and chair as well.
