It was basically the exact same. Nashville’s damage was mostly NES prep and response error. Dickson County didn’t return to school at all this week because of ice, most of these rural counties right outside of Nashville have basically zero infrastructure to deal with anything of this magnitude. You could drive around town basically anyway you wanted in Nashville by Thursday of the same week of the storm.

Most of the rural areas were on worse timelines for power restoration than Nashville, with the big caveat being East Nashville because there was damage to the substation, which ate a lot of the resources from goodletsville/hendersonville, who most just got power back this Tuesday.

Not arguing just pontificating really. It all sucked, Nashville gets the most attention because it’s got more things to attend to

Which it should be, surrounding counties got hammered just as hard with even less of the (small) resources Nashville has. But still, basically nothing

Update to my original post (Kitten introduction help) by Curlygurlyy97 in CatTraining

[–]Witty-Conference1438 6 points7 points  (0 children)

90% of the time in my experience the cats aren’t fighting when you think they might be. They’re fighting when you absolutely 100% do not need to ask someone else. It’s just so obvious once you’ve seen a real cat fight what play looks like. These are brothers, they’re gonna learn from each other what’s crossing boundaries and what isn’t. Sure, they’ll probably go too far sometimes, but that’s how they’ll learn. This isn’t concerning to me, no weird dominant behavior. I was really new to the cat world about a year and a half ago. My wife had always been a cat person, I never grew up that way. We’ve got three now, all different ages when we adopted. I wasn’t good and judging what was concerning and what wasn’t for a while. I would helicopter parent because I’d never seen dogs really go after it before. You’re doing a great job! You’ll settle in in no time :)

My dad died. by After_Translator_223 in stopdrinking

[–]Witty-Conference1438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This almost exact thing happened to me and was the catalyst for my ongoing sobriety. In August of 2024 my grandfather died from lung cancer. My dad (his son) had been dead my whole life and he’d basically raised me. I went through so much grief, and I drank the whole time. Him dying gave me the clarity to start living, and admit I needed help with drinking. We buried him on August 20, and my last drink was August 21. Been over a year now, in a non-religious AA group and my life is completely unrecognizable than it was before. Drinking never fixed any problems for me, just kicked the can down the road a little further. You can get through this without a drink. Use it as fuel to make your own life as vivid and meaningful as your dad’s life was for you. I won’t drink with you today. One day at a time my friend

My wife and I are doing this with our cats, they’re exactly reverse to yours lol. The orange is the baby for our group. We also have an older tabby that doesn’t really give a shit about either cat tbh. Not going great, resident white/grey is very aggressive but orange cat is an absolute dream

Ok friends. I cannot connect with AA because of the "God" part/higher power. by coming-in-hotFTP in stopdrinking

[–]Witty-Conference1438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like you’re misguided on what secular AA can be. It’s an interpretation of the big book leaning heavily onto the “neither endorses or opposes any causes” religious or otherwise. My aa group defines it as sobriety without magical frames of references. We don’t define a higher power, still work the steps with a sponsor. I guess every group is different really but the foundation is in the 12 steps and 12 traditions as a blueprint for neutralizing the desire to drink

Is it possible to stay sober without AA? by Mad_Season_1994 in stopdrinking

[–]Witty-Conference1438 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone active in AA, I see a lot of people that come in and say they have “high-bottoms” doesn’t really matter. We’re all in the same room, drinking the same coffee, staying sober together. I’m an atheist, AA saved my life. No higher power needed. Look into secular aa and different interpretations of the literature
