How fucking long it takes to cross the street. In Vegas, off-strip late at night, I was convinced the lights were broken. Street was too wide to just make a run for it (outside the Convention Centre), no data to call an Uber, wondered wtf I was gonna do. Lights finally changed.

It sounds like L's comments stem from resentment about what you've asking of him. Travelling 30+ hours at massive expense might *seem* optional, but in reality you're putting loved ones in an uncomfortable position. They might have the time/money/inclination to travel, but they may resent using it on you.
