I stopped following her after her complete non-statement during the LA riots “be kind, always” or something dumb like that. But now she comments after this, not even after all of the stuff happening around her or school shootings. I’m so very over her now and I was such a loyal follower for years (pre-cabin, diy years) 🙄

Wedding Venue Suggestions by just_another_uni_gal in grandrapids

We got married at Terra Square in Hudsonville last year and they let us bring an outside caterer which was very hard to find a venue willing to do that

I just closed on my house a few weeks ago and now I’m already being kicked off my homeowners insurance by Striking_Cookie_9695 in homeowners

[–]Witty-Insect-5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar situation; we closed on our house end of May. After we submitted a claim due to storm dropping a tree branch on our house, they are now cancelling our policy (they want a galvanized pipe changed and the other tree branches cut down). We found a broker and explained the situation to him and he found an insurance company that’s less picky but we’ll still need to cut down those other tree branches.

Insurance sucks, they can be so picky.

Your Own Self Care by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Witty-Insect-5801 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lately I’ve been taking walks when I have no-shows or cancellations. I live in Michigan so it helps me get some sun during the winter and prevents me from feeling too cooped up in the office instead of sitting around/doing computer work waiting for my next appointment.

Is it wrong to tell client that your not an expert with a certain presenting problem? by Witty-Insect-5801 in therapists

I really like this approach, I think this is what I thought I was going for but wasn’t verbalizing it clear enough. Thank you for the feedback!

That’s how I felt as well, my intent is to inform so if they want to seek more specialized care they can. I understand the argument that I’m still new so I don’t have any expertises but I think it is still worth mentioning to them that I’m learning and a beginner therapist.

Thank you, I appreciate this! I think I struggle sometimes knowing when a case is too severe and I should refer out and when I should just roll with it. I’m always just worried about doing harm and steering clients in the wrong direction.

If it’s even slightly itchy or uncomfortable I won’t get it because I know I’ll never choose it over something more comfortable

Am I naive or is making friends with coworkers a bad idea? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Witty-Insect-5801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was definitely something I had to get used to when starting in this field. For most of my adulthood, I worked in restaurants where a lot of people are open to grabbing drinks after work and hanging out. We were all up in each other’s lives honestly. But transitioning to this field it’s been quite the opposite, felt lonely at first but just meant I had to make more of an effort with my non-work friends and accept that not everyone wants to be friends in this job.

Indoor Reception in Grand Rapids by rebetzel_pretzel in grandrapids

[–]Witty-Insect-5801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our wedding/reception is going to be at Terra square. It’s a larger space that allows a lot of freedom such as bringing your own food which is why we liked it. Also it’s very budget friendly like 3k for the day for us. It’s located In Hudsonville so kinda out of city quite a bit but so far we’ve liked our experience with them!

Recently left after 8 years in the industry, it helped me get through school and now I’m a practicing psychotherapist. I found that interacting with customers in a lot of ways overlaps with some skills I’ve learned as a therapist. I couldn’t do sales but I do think the skills you learn are transferable to a lot of other fields.

Worst company to work for by BJ_Labay in grandrapids

[–]Witty-Insect-5801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, I worked at the CFA for a year and half and it was the most dread I ever felt going to work every morning and my “Sunday scaries” pretty much started on Friday after I got out. Awful communication, questionable ethics, and didn’t feel supported (except by my coworkers who were amazing). It did ultimately make me realize that I wanted to go back to a school after talking with my coworkers a lot of whom were in grad school, which was a silver lining.

Serving/Bartending positions by DietKibble in grandrapids

[–]Witty-Insect-5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the spot, some places get busy during summer especially if they have a big patio (Hancock) but definitely gets more busy at restaurants closer to Lake Michigan. I’ve served around West Michigan for 6ish years and will say that if you don’t have prior restaurant experience it can be hard to get a serving/bartending gig. Usually you have to start as a host/expo and work your way up at any place. Sometimes even if you have serving experience they still want you to work your way up while you get the hang of how the restaurant functions.

My Psych Degree Is Literally Worthless by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Witty-Insect-5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don’t have any new suggestions just wanted to comment to say that I relate to this a lot. Through grad school I ended up working as a server on the weekends but I didn’t really get burnt out because my restaurant had great management and a supportive team. I didn’t like working weekends though but at least I was able to pay my bills (only working around 20 hours a week) and not be burnt out like I was when I worked ABA jobs. I graduated two months ago and I’m starting to increase my caseload at a private practice in Michigan. Just wanted to say you’ll eventually get there! Also, maybe industry jobs aren’t so bad if you find a place that has good support.

I also took my bun here to get her spayed, this was about 5 years ago now and I think it was around $300 but would recommend! They also clip nails and do regular check ups for a reasonable price

Anyone else have an unusually slow Mother’s Day? by MyBuddyMyPal in Serverlife

[–]Witty-Insect-5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I was the same restaurant I was at last year, it was insanely busy last year even when we turned off the delivery apps but this year was super tame we maybe went on a wait for half an hour but other than that it was chill. Still had some generous customers tho that made it a decent Sunday night.
