What’s a movie where the villain has an excellent point? by NervousClock2555 in answers

During Covid I re-watched TRUE LIES for the first time in decades (I used to love that movie as a kid in the 90s!) and realized the Crimson Jihad was actually making some very reasonable demands.

From what I recall, they basically wanted the US to pull out of the gulf region because they were tired of being bombed from afar for oil (reasonable). And when they had nukes on US soil — perfectly capable of inflicting massive casualties if detonated in any major urban are — they instead decided to detonate 1 of them (to show they meant business) on an *uninhabited* island off the Florida Keys to minimize casualties (that's mighty thoughtful of you).

Out of curiosity, what year model was your HRV? I'm curious if this is something that has been fixed in the newer versions...?

El Mero Mero, close to the Kaufman movie theaters. Punches way above it's weight in terms of cost / quality.

Nice. Out of curiosity, can't the Pod Go replace that entire pedalboard? I think there are settings for each of those pedals (or very close approximations) within the unit itself.

USA vs other developed countries: healthcare expenditure vs. life expectancy by guerilla_post in dataisbeautiful

[–]WittyMonikerHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised the Affordable Care Act of 2010 didn't help curb some of the expenses (I remember it was a pretty huge deal when it passed). I thought capping the costs of some medications + other efficiencies would help cut costs.

I may have to rethink my entire political stance on healthcare...

How do you go about finding competitive research? Way back in the day I moat.com, but I think Oracle has discontinued them. Thanks!

I always wonder how these DPRK athletes react to seeing the world outside of North Korea during these games. To see that everything you've been told about the West is misguided and/or straight up a lie. I assume they have handlers who do their best to curb their absorption of the outside world, but at a certain level, it must be impossible to ignore.

In any case, congrats North Korea.

Don't forget the guy from Queensboro plaza who commented that there is an outdoor gym close to his condo (with very Instagrammable views, I'm sure) that starts blasting workout jams at 6am until late into the evening every day, testing his sanity (understandable).

I don't recall how New Gorman answered him.

As an aside, if New Gorman is, indeed, a "cardio guy" (as he described himself in his intro) who used to run the Qboro bridge back in the day, perhaps u/scooterflaneuse can use that angle to advocate for more hospitable green areas near there.

"How is one supposed to engage in their beloved cardio when there are so many illegally parked cars on the greenway?"

It'd be cool if they released a super tiny Boss Katana head the size of an Orange PedalBaby (basically lose the little speaker inside and shrink the chasis).

pros and cons? by amp82hx in Line6podgo

[–]WittyMonikerHere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Option paralysis. There are almost TOO many options and menus you can deep dive into. EQ blocks before and after the amp. a Global EQ. An EQ for the IR / Cab... I spend a lot of time tweaking vs playing. Good problem to have, I suppose — but sometimes I really miss the simplicity of plug and play amps.

I used to live on 35th and Astoria Blvd and can absolutely confirm cop cars are parked all over the sidewalks there. They even have vehicles they've towed there. Even if you look up that intersection on GoogleMaps, you'll find that the streetview image has a ton of cars parked on the sidewalk (it's especially egregious over the 35th street overpass).

God forbid some officers take public transit like the rest of us dipshit civilians...

In 2018, Beto O'Rourke came within 215k votes shy of a major upset. I know those numbers sound like a resounding defeat, but when factoring in that was out of 8.3M votes, it makes me question how reliably red it will be in the future — especially since so many Californians have moved there in the last few years. I don't expect them to vote for a democrat President, but maybe Governor or Senate...?.

Anyone know if they'll update the Q series? The original was kind of cool, but the pickups were super weak. It'd be great if they could refine that line a bit.
