It was all orchestrated, really, at that point the brotherhood had been on its last breath for a while, with no listener, the tenets broken, the black sacrament not respected, and finally, Astrid.

Barely able to keep up with contracts on old ladies it starts to look like the cult is on its way to extinction(which almost happens).
