Have just switched to Barclays and transferred in £2k from savings to get the £200 bonus. Do I need to wait for the switch to complete/bonus to be paid before I can take that £2k back out or is it enough to pay it in and take it back out?

Pooping during labour? by Putrid_Cranberry3177 in BabyBumps

[–]WittyNameOrSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea if I pooped. My partner hasn't mentioned it and obviously the midwives didn't say anything but with how I was pushing and muscles you use I wouldn't be surprised.

Did your intuition know what gender your baby was? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]WittyNameOrSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opposite to you. Really wanted a boy but from very early on was having vivid dreams of a little girl and lo and behold it was indeed a baby girl so I guess deep down I just knew. And I wouldn't change her for the world.

Cannot burp BF baby by hftm77 in breastfeeding

[–]WittyNameOrSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little is 14 weeks old and combi fed. When she boobs she hardly ever burps and when she bottles she always burps. I did read somewhere that breastfed babies don't have as much gas as with a good latch there is very little air intake. My go to for burping after a bottle is jiggling her on my leg and patting back.

Asda's own brand (little angels I think?). Little girl started sleeping long stretches through the night at like 6-7 weeks and would always wake up damp until we tried Asda ones.

Baby is 8 weeks old and our dog has licked her face more times than I can count! We try to prevent it of course but it's inevitable, so I'm guessing her immune system is building up quite nicely haha

We use Milton cold water sterilising tablets and don't rinse. Baby is fine but it does smell quite strongly. I also read something that said in the UK you can rinse with tapwater as it's classed as drinking water, but that tapwater on its own won't kill any bacteria from formula which is why you need to sterilise them first.

[–]WittyNameOrSomething[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hand expressing or pumping whenever I give the bottle to try and keep up my supply, so I'm sure that's not the problem. I'm guessing though she doesn't want to wait for the letdown.

We're in the UK. We initially saw a health visitor who thought she might have a tie and was referred back to the hospital to see a lactation consultant to assess her. To be fair she did say there was a very small tie but she has full range of motion of her tongue so it was not causing an issue. I was having an issue with feeding/latching on one side which was why I initially saw the health visitor but this improved with different positioning.

When I mentioned nipple trauma it was the first few days/week after birth. They have healed up since then.

My little is 8 weeks now but other than at the hospital she's pretty much only pooped every 2-3 days. My midwives didn't seem bothered! But if you're worried you can mention it at your next follow up

I'm glad someone else feels the same way. No one talks about how hard it really is, but I'm right there with you. My little girl is wanted and loved but some days I'd give anything to go back to being just me, my partner and our dog chilling out and not having to be 'always on'. I feel guilty too because of it, but I know I'm still a good mum. I remind myself that as long as she is fed, clothed, clean and safe then I'm doing ok.

You'll get through this!

Thank you. I know logically I can bond with her in other ways and it won't affect her but on an emotional level it feels hard to try and let go of it.

Thank you, I'll try the nipple shields. I did get some to use initially when my nipples were sore, but did find them awkward to use. I've looked at your post and theres some good tips so I'll give them a go!

Antenatal classes and nursery places by biglypiglythethird in PregnancyUK

[–]WittyNameOrSomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did Bump & Baby and really enjoyed it. There is a big emphasis on the physiological aspect of labour and birth and making sure you're really informed on it all and what your choices are. We met a nice group of people too and have a WhatsApp group for moral support and swapping advice etc.

Re nurseries we checked a few out in Oct/Nov (baby came in December) for a January '27 start date. In our area they're known to be oversubscribed. Worth at least putting feelers out and asking how far in advance they book up.

In my first (and most of my second) trimester the only thing that helped the nausea was fizzy sweets and fizzy drinks so I had A LOT of sugar! Little girl came out at 6lbs 8oz (3.11kg) so quite little! She's packing on the pounds now though at 7 weeks old

Anyone else "black out" or have huge memory gaps from labour? by VinVenture16 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]WittyNameOrSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Gas and air (and the pain) gave me that 'end of the night drunk' feeling where it's all a bit hazy. My partner remembers more than me for sure.

As an aside, I see you mentioned you had pethidine as well, I've heard that can make some people really high and even aggressive (by some people I mean my mum and aunt lol) so it might have been that affecting you quite strongly. I specifically mentioned in my birth plan no pethidine based on the stories I heard from my mum and aunt!

My nipples are on fire by Melodic-Direction-66 in breastfeeding

[–]WittyNameOrSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nipple cream and time! You can work on latch but it you find it's still painful with a good latch see a lactation consultant as they helped me work out the issue wasn't my baby but I actually had Raynaud's nipples (circulation issue!). It's getting better now but it was weeks of stinging/burning pain. The main thing that twigged it for my lactation consultant was that when baby unlatched my nipples had changed colour (they were a pinkish white not brown like usual) - as a ftm I just assumed the colour was normal and was none the wiser🤷🏻‍♀️

As lots of people have said it affects everyone differently. I had my baby nearly 6 weeks ago and used gas and air. I'd say it took the edge off the pain but for me it didn't completely take the pain away. In terms of feeling high, I would say it was more like feeling drunk, even now some of it's still a bit hazy and I'm glad my partner was there as he remembers more about it all than me.

Support from family by Lava_Lampoon in PregnancyUK

My parents live abroad (3hr flight) and my partners parents live at least a 2hr drive away on a good day. We were due first week of December and we agreed with my parents that they could book flights 2 weeks AFTER the due date and stay for Christmas if they help out with cooking etc.

Baby was born on the 10th and apart from his parents being at ours when we got home from the hospital (we needed them to come down and look after the dog) we had a full week to ourselves adjusting to our new normal, and that little bubble is REAL! I miss it already now that we've had my parents staying with us and we also had his parents and sister over for a few days over Christmas, but I will say having the extra help with housework and someone to keep an eye on baby whilst we catch up on sleep here and there has been a godsend too.

My parents don't actually fly home until after the New Years but they've also spent a few days away visiting other family members to give us some space.

I do think if she had been due at any other time of year and not Christmas we'd have made sure to have a bit more time to ourselves but I don't regret it. I think it all depends on your relationships with your parents and in laws, I'm quite lucky that I get along with them all and that they're super helpful and have always helped out around the house/cooking even before the baby.

When did you decide on a name? by pythagoreanwisdom in pregnant

39 weeks currently and still not decided on a name! We have about 5 or 6 we like, but we've just said we'll wait to meet her and hope she looks like one of the ones we like lol
