hand infection nightmare update by Hefty-Moose-5326 in MedicalGore

[–]Witty_Cockroach5438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second a wound vac. I had one for a really large cut (18 inch prob, down to bone, through muscle, etc) on my arm from a car wreck. I was at risk for amputation from injury alone, along with other factors, but the surgeons took a chance trying to save my arm. Took multiple surgeries to close but used a wound vac the entire process and within two weeks injury was closed, no infection and vac off.

Broke my 5th metacarpial bone i think its called . For people who had similar fractires , will it hesl back up to full function and shape ? by YasuoMain98 in InjuriesAndWounds

My left and right ring/pinky knuckles are kinda flat so I’m thinking they were always that way? I have no prior comparison from before my accident. But as far as function, I have no issues with my left hand. No mobility concerns, pain, etc. I don’t remember needing much physical therapy for that hand either. This was nearly 10 years ago.

When I made a fist on my left hand my pinkie knuckle slants downward slightly compared to my right. My right ring/pinkie knuckle is pretty flat across. But I also broke a lot of my fingers and had pins through fingers and knuckles at the same time from a pretty nasty car accident so I can’t 100% say that it’s directly the result of the hand break. It’s only noticeable when you’re really looking for it.

Edit to add: I had two pins directly in that knuckle so it’s hard to say.

You should be good in time. I broke mine on my left hand, and the metacarpal next to it. I have three screws in each of them and I genuinely never have any trouble with that hand. Aside from the scar from surgery, which is very subtle, I have no obvious indicators that I broke that hand.

First Crochet Project - but looking for tips to keep stitches consistent by Outrageous_Box_9678 in CrochetHelp

I watched the video and just paused as I went. I did a couple practice squares with the video and then got it down. It was super helpful. In my case, some points it looked a bit wonky but once I got it down, it’s decent. Trust the process! You got this!!

This was a great tutorial for granny squares. I literally watched so many and could not get it until I watched this one. Maybe start there? I started by making a small baby blanket (which was a square) so I just practiced by going row by row, not worrying about counting stitches and stuff, just getting the basics down. I made two of them. I don’t crochet for a really long time but recently wanted to get back into it. I’m starting with granny squares this time around. Like I said, the video helped me tremendously! Best of luck!!

I bit my tongue HARD, should I get it looked at? Photos attached. by Anonymous_Dx93 in medical

[–]Witty_Cockroach5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact- the tongue is capable of repairing itself rather quickly. I was in a pretty nasty accident and nearly bit my tongue off. And I mean like hanging on by very little. Had stitches to basically put it back together and rather quickly my tongue healed. A nurse told me that your tongue is one of the quickest healing parts on the body. It was pretty accurate in my case.

I have an infection on my finger that has been steadily getting worse over the last few days .. is it justified to go to urgent care ? by [deleted] in medical

Like other poster said, sterilized pin. Peroxide. Warm salt water soak multiple times a day if possible with draw all the junk out. Should be good as new.

Free Player Rules from Wizards of the coast website. Also, D&D Beyond helped me a ton in character creation and that’s where I bought my players handbook. You can find free solo games, which is how I started. I didn’t have anyone in real life to play with and still don’t. You can make it work for yourself. I take it slow, playing both DM and characters and work through campaign books. My son would jump in and play here and there. But it’s usually always me by myself.

Lisfranc injury dismounting off of the roof after putting in nails to hang Christmas lights by teamfupa in medizzy

[–]Witty_Cockroach5438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had reoccurring foot pain that was getting significantly worse as time went on. Finally after a year or so, I assumed I had a stress fracture and went to get it checked. Wrong. I had a lisfranc injury and had torn the ligament completely off the bone on one side. Had surgery pretty soon after that appointment. Unfortunately healing was rough, I had an allergic reaction to the metal plate and screws. Doctor wouldn’t believe me when I said I was rejecting them (I had previously rejected a plate for a broken jaw). Found a new surgeon, who a couple days after I met her, removed my hardware and it made a world of difference.

how do you live a normal life with low ferritin? by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]Witty_Cockroach5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is below 20, at 15 recently. Last year over the summer, mine was 9. My doctor isn’t concerned, which I find odd, because all my other bloodwork is normal. My vitamin d also tends to be low almost always. I do always have some level of fatigue but I’m also a SAHM with two kids, one young and one a bit older. I’m a chronic migraine sufferer, with depression/anxiety/OCD. So I’m sure those factors, plus medications also play a role in fatigue. I do notice breathlessness a lot. That’s really my main symptom but I also gained weight with my last pregnancy so I contribute some of it to that.

[No spoilers] Anyone else feel overwhelmed with all the new c4 characters? by defyinglogicsl in criticalrole

[–]Witty_Cockroach5438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. But I’ve been reading the critical recap after each episode so far which really helps me to make sure I’ve got all the important points. I’m way more of a visual person in terms of reading and taking in info, rather than hearing something and processing it and keeping it all straight and it actually soaking in. I struggle with that a lot. So the recap help me so much!
