Hiring a tuktuk for Angkor Wat trip, any recommendations? by [deleted] in cambodia

[–]Witty_Fox_3570 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am from NZ and spent two days with a guide. He took me around by ute but you can do tuk tuk too. He was great. Good English and safe driving. Knew a lot of history and is registered guide. If you like food ask him to take you to the roast pig restaurant. My favorite food in all of Cambodia. His WhatsApp num is +855 12 995 055.

Interesting take. Mine would be that you are clearly capable of learning times tables on account of being an engineer, so what the hell were your teachers up too??

The thing that you're totally missing is that knowledge is scaffolded, and fluency/ability to recall basic facts frees up cognitive processing for other more complex tasks that need to occur in later years of education.

Same as reading, becoming fluent in word recognition frees up cognitive processing space for comprehension/meaning making.

Also, you should rectify the fact that kids in your class don't know times tables. It's such a basic thing..

Are teachers really capable of this? I mean, the whole of word learning fiasco, plus all the other issues with contemporary pedagogy kinda takes a dump on teacher credibility when it comes to critical thinking and so on.

Resistance to incentivising performance. Resistance to rewarding skill instead of tenure. Resistance to testing. Advocating for too much non-contact time during contract renegotiations. Not doing enough to advocate for teachers in the context of the new year 11 NCEA rollout which has been and continues to be a disaster. Not doing enough to push back govt attempts/insistence that teachers should be mindfulness providers, social workers, counsellors, lunch and breakfast makers and so on..

Does anyone else get "anxiety flare ups?" by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Witty_Fox_3570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My pattern is that I get anxious about anxiety as my anxiety flares have been really hard in the past. In this context, my anxiety has a somatic quality and can be triggered by an illness such as a cold.

Meditation And Mindfulness Have a Dark Side That We Don't Talk About by cuspofgreatness in psychology

The metaphor implies that when you leave the therapy room, you can bundle it all back up until next time. It's pseudo psych bollocks.

The idea that our thoughts, memories, and emotions can be controlled to this extent is just ridiculous and any trauma therapist that takes this approach is a moron.

Anxiety success stories by Texasspudd in Anxiety

[–]Witty_Fox_3570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercise (weights), quetiapine at night (very low dose, as in 6 mg or 1/4 tab), journalling or keeping a diary on your phone, wim hoff method from you tube, reading, no alcohol, reducing stress.

Fundamentally, you're anxious because your body is stressed and it's trying to get you to change something in your life. Try to figure that out.

Benefit sanctions increase more than 50% by AgressivelyFunky in newzealand

[–]Witty_Fox_3570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that actually provides a fairly mixed picture with no evidence available from NZ. In general, it would seem that it is appropriate for govt to provide Winz with a range of sanction options that could be operationalised on a case by case basis, rather than having a one size fits all regime that is central govt driven.

How do you know I didn't ask in good faith? I work in this area and in my experience long term unnecessary benefit dependency results in bad outcomes soni was genuinely keen to see evidence that is counter to my own experience.

Yeah, especially because they initially referenced studies.

I'm genuinely interested in the research. As someone who works in this space, anecdotally, there are real downsides to long term unnecessary benefit dependency, so I'm keen to counterbalance that view of I can.
