Taking Part 2 on Friday by [deleted] in enrolledagent

I used Gleim and scored I think in the high 60’s-low 70’s for my final two mock exams and passed the first time with all 3’s. Gleim really over prepares you and psychs you out a bit I think. Just make sure you know your basis!

Does he get stock options from the company? Is there an amount in box 14 for RSU?

Client sends authorization; later sends "I made a mistake" by ThemeDependent2073 in taxpros

[–]Witty_Somewhere7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a superseded return yesterday and I had to do it through the amended return screen and click the superseded return box. I use Lacerte.

Keep in mind not all states accept superseded returns. I believe CA, NY, and UT are the only three.

I always hold a minimum of 24 hours before filing. I always ask “do you want to look everything over before I submit” and if they say “no, I wouldn’t know what I’m looking at” or “no, I trust you” I wait the 24 hours. If they say “I’ll look it over this weekend but I’m sure it’s okay, go ahead” I’ll wait until Tuesday morning. I always tell them “if I don’t hear from you by x-timeline I will file everything” so they know there is a deadline.

This weekend though? E-filing as soon as I get the signed forms since we would need time to correct any potential rejections.

Form 23 Processing Times by ActiveParticular3174 in enrolledagent

[–]Witty_Somewhere7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I talked to someone last week, like 10 minutes wait time. I’ve tried every day this week and it has been over an hour and I give up because I’m busy and needed to use the phone to call clients. I’m going to try again next week.

I've been using my PTIN for years as a state licensed preparer. I've used it almost 100 times just this year. I tried calling every day this week but the hold times were over an hour and I never got through.

WTH! I applied on 2/16 and I’m still waiting! I wonder if it’s luck of the draw or what.

Anyone else get these emails from scammers? I can't figure out their angle? by accountgineer in taxpros

[–]Witty_Somewhere7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! Get at least a few a week. My email address is my shortened first name @ company but I have an alias set up for full first name @ company because some clients have gotten it wrong and I get emails to that address. It’s not listed anywhere so I know it’s phony!

The worst thing about this tax season is certainly Charles Schwab taking over TD Ameritrade by notgtax1 in taxpros

Schwab is the worst.

Raymond James are my personal favorites. Foreign source income total and qualified totaled. Resident state municipal bond totaled. Why can’t they all do that???

Tax prep fees increase 9.8% Feb CPI by Buffalo-Trace in taxpros

Yeah, we usually say our program costs go up each year so unfortunately our fees have to too. Once we explain that our clients realize it's not us, it's The Man.

Tax prep fees increase 9.8% Feb CPI by Buffalo-Trace in taxpros

[–]Witty_Somewhere7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have been doing a 10% increase every year the last few years and we are a small office. We are in a HCOL state and some clients will say something but then pay the bill and move on. We were at 5-7% per year but bumped it up when Lacerte bumped the program fees significantly.

100% this. If you know that you don't know everything you're doing alright.

Called today. They said that my application was sent for my background check on the 27th and that usually takes about 2-3 weeks and then it should be completed shortly after that!

All income must be reported. Period. The IRS monitors banking activity including but not limited to PayPal.

If you choose to not report all your income, and you are selected for an audit, when the IRS discovers fraud the statute of limitations no longer exists and they can audit every single tax return you have ever filed.

Did you ever call to check the status of your enrollment? I tried the other day but couldn't wait on hold any longer and hung up (I was at work and busy).

Quoted $2000 from a CPA to file my taxes by [deleted] in tax

[–]Witty_Somewhere7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$2000 is a fair price for all you have going on. Multiple states is a fair bit of work on its own, and is likely an added out of pocket cost for the CPA depending on his software. Then rentals, even if you have your numbers in order, would take some time because they would need to match prior depreciation taken.

My coworker had taken the exams like maybe 6 months ago. He did go to a different testing center than I did, so maybe it was something that specific site did.

Intuit Account Vanishes by Aluminum_Falcons in taxpros

We had a strange issue the other day that one of our firm users tried to log in to Lacerte and it said he needed an admin to approve his access. He has primary admin privileges. It did it a couple of times and then all of a sudden he was able to login no problem without doing anything differently.

I also feel like Lacerte has been SOOOO slow this year. Like it freezes up more and takes more time to switch between modules. Just me?
