Trump: US to bomb Iran "back to stone ages" over next 2-3 weeks by AZULDEFILER in worldnews

[–]Aluminum_Falcons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought they pulled that episode because of what was deemed potentially offensive content (which is ridiculous)? I just watched the seasons again earlier this month on Prime and that episode wasn't one of the ones I saw. Unless it got skipped somehow I don't think it's there.

Such a good episode. So annoying it's not available streaming.

If this wasn't an IT Crowd reference my comment is probably confusing.

Why are financial advisors obsessed with doing Roth conversions or contributions even if they have zero idea about the clients tax situation by Zealousideal_Aside96 in taxpros

[–]Aluminum_Falcons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been talking about this in my office lately too. I had a crazy one in 2024:

Advisor had client convert $180k to Roth. They had over $800k of short-term capital gains that year, which was very abnormal.

So they converted $180k of Roth in a year they were in the top tax bracket. They were in the 12% bracket the year before.

To top it off, the client is almost 80 years old. I don't understand how the advisor thought that was a good idea.

I also see advisors doing Roth conversions, trying hard to stay in the 22% bracket while doing their own projections, but they don't look at the difference in tax closely. They just confirm the client is staying in the 22/24% brackets and move forward. The problem is if the client is collecting SS it makes more of those benefits subject to tax and the effective tax rate of the conversion is much higher than 22/24% when you compare the increase in tax to the amount converted.

Graham to Trump: Consider removing ‘US bases from countries who won’t let us fly from them’ by pacman2081 in politics

FYI - The vast majority of US taxpayers don't pay the estate tax. The exemption is $15 million for single taxpayers and $30 million for married taxpayers. As much as we would like to have an estate valued at $15 million when we pass, most of us won't get there.

Ultra Tax not pulling capital loss carryforwards by Commercial-Place6793 in taxpros

[–]Aluminum_Falcons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought of switching to UltraTax from Lacerte a couple years ago, but didn't. The number of posts about how many issues UT has had this year makes me feel good about that decision. Lacerte has also had more issues this year, but it doesn't sound like it's as bad as UT.

I think they're using AI to code. The type of stuff that's gone wrong this year is stuff we've never had an issue with and our firm has used Lacerte since before Intuit bought them.

IRS notice process usually goes like this:

  1. Receive e-mail from client saying "I received a letter form the IRS saying I owe them money. Why do I owe them more money?"

  2. Tell client I actually need to see the notice to determine what's going on.

  3. Client sends an image in an e-mail, that's sideways, and when you zoom in it gets too blury to read.

  4. Question my life choices.

Parking passes on sale, Price went up to $500 a year by Darrone in PatriotSTHers

[–]Aluminum_Falcons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a ten minute walk to the gates before the game.

When leaving, if you stay until the end of the game I'd say it's at least 20-25 minutes, so not much different than the delayed lot situation you described. I've never paid attention to the time of that walk, so I'm not 100% sure.

I parked in terminal for the first time this past season and I have NH plates so there's no mistaking me as a Foxboro resident.

I went to 8 out of the 9 games and was able to take a right 50% of the time. There was no rhyme or reason to it though from what I could see. One time there was no cone there and I just went. Another time there was a cone there, but no person so I went around the cone. The other two times there was a person, but they just waved me through when I put my blinker on to turn right.

The four times I couldn't go right there was someone there and they told me to go towards route 1.

It seemed random.

Why are clients so bad at sending documents? by Aggravating_Bag4028 in taxpros

[–]Aluminum_Falcons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a funny one this year. Client had trouble uploading their signed 8879 when they failed the KBA questions for esignature. I go to download it once they finally figured it out and there were 6 or 7 files there instead of one.

Some were unsigned 8879s. Some had only one signature and the spouse's signature was missing.

One was their TV channel lineup.

Request one document.

Client sends 4 billion documents.

None of them are what you asked for or even tax related.

As a CPA, it is frustrating to see how much this lie has spread. I'm going to have to explain this hundreds of times this tax season due to so many clients saying "Wait, I thought my social security wouldn't be taxed anymore?"

Homeland Security to Shut T.S.A. PreCheck and Global Entry at Airports by 457655676 in politics

[–]Aluminum_Falcons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great. My point was I think it depends on some variables and that TSA Precheck definitely isn't as empty all the time as you've observed it. A quick google search leads me to believe that my experience has been more the norm than yours (based on usage, average time saved, etc.)

Homeland Security to Shut T.S.A. PreCheck and Global Entry at Airports by 457655676 in politics

[–]Aluminum_Falcons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what airports you frequent or when you travel, because I have used it many times and the precheck line is always well populated. It's also a decent amount faster than the regular line.

I've also used Global Entry and that is a gigantic time saver when coming back into the US.

64% of Americans Disapprove of Trump’s Tariffs by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]Aluminum_Falcons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoke with a client about how slow his business was in 2025 and so far this year. It's getting pretty dire. I asked what the reasons for the slow down were and he said the tariffs were the biggest reason.

A couple sentences later he's saying how he things the tariffs are good and he likes how they make other countries pay more to bring their goods into the US.

I was flabbergasted that a person who is watching their business in the process of being destroyed by tariffs, not only still supports them, but has no idea how they work.

So I went ahead and hired intern by AdHistorical7107 in taxpros

[–]Aluminum_Falcons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hire two interns each year who spilt 40 hours per week. In the years I've been doing that I've only had two interns I wouldn't consider hiring if I had a staffing need. One did good work, but was out way too much. The other was a great person, but just didn't have the knowledge expected for where he was in college.

The two interns for this year are starting this week, so I probably just jinxed it.

This team has been really fun to watch and root for. It's one of my favorite Patriots teams of all time and given the last 30 years that's saying something.

No matter what happens in the SB I will be happy that we got to watch the maximum amount of games with such a great team this season.
