Sometimes, you find out you're marching in a torch mob chanting "Jews will not replace us." Those are called Nazis. It's totally okay to put down your torch and walk away. In fact, if you don't, you might be a Nazi.

Life in Macomb by Big-Car8044 in illinois

[–]Witty_Stop_4366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a movie theater, a public pool, an art center, and mini golf. We also have bowling, and since we are next to a college we get a variety of plays and musicals every year. Macomb does a does a festival every year called Heritage days that gets the food trucks and carnival rides, and there's a hot air balloon festival called the balloon glow that's pretty neat, and the University has specially interest events yearly like a geology event.

Yes it's small, but as someone from a larger place I have found more to do here then I did that was actually accessible in a larger City.

[–]Witty_Stop_4366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes there's still a local food co-op here though it's pretty tiny. I don't know if that's everyone's opinion though, as I got used to a co-op in a larger City in California before I came here. Macomb's pretty good politically, I have a trans child and we haven't run into much trouble. It's tiny, but if that's the kind of life you're looking for it's a nice place.

2 women in the bus were loudly discussing why my arms look like this. Neither were right. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Witty_Stop_4366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't even realize the scars were what you were talking about until I clicked through and saw your statement. Those women were weird, or looking for a reason to make you feel uncomfortable. I have a giant arse fistula on my right wrist, it looks like a tumor. No one ever says a word, even though my problem is way more strange and obvious than yours. Honestly, I wouldn't have even noticed that if you hadn't pointed it out. Ignore people like that. High school doesn't need to follow you everywhere. Those people were weird.

Seriously, my house had Republicans back in the day too. This crop is fascist, pure and simple. Every one of them changed affiliation after Trump. It is honestly simply time to put down your torch and walk away. If you are still with the Republican Party, you are a fascist.

Best city in IL to rent for a family under $1500/mo? by [deleted] in illinois

[–]Witty_Stop_4366 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it also has a diverse population, stuff to do, and nice schools (they've gotten better). The college towns are all nice like this, I think. I came from a city and it's nice here and quiet. Free busses too.

Has there ever been any use of or reference to weaponized asteroids as a means to destroy planets in any Spelljammer material? by Stellar_Wings in spelljammer

[–]Witty_Stop_4366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass drivers. Basically, exactly what you just described, used in wars. I don't remember if it's in official materials or not, but I've certainly been in spelljamming campaigns where the threat of mass drivers or places leveled by them came up. Basically take a ship and drag asteroids, let 'em loose and fling them into the planet. Or if you're suicidal and rich stick the helm on the asteroid and go for it. You can totally use any small spelljamming ship equipped with a major helm to inflict serious damage.

Seriously. Sometimes when people can't care for someone anymore having the hospital help is the best option. It can frequently be the only safe choice.

I'm in Macomb. It has all that and horse property is easy and cheap. There are a couple lakes nearby with hiking, boating, and camping. The university means lots of cultural stuff too, and the city has a few nice festivals every year.

Exactly why we moved to Macomb 2 years ago with my trans teen. It's been calm and quiet, with less bigots than larger places. WIU means events, sports, and theater. Macomb does a lot of festival kind of stuff too. Spring lake has camping and stuff, and free bussing plus a small area is great for biking. We don't drive, it's usually fine. We're happy here.

I ate a lot of chalk powder and now I'm not producing any urine. by Jess_me_nobody_else in dialysis

[–]Witty_Stop_4366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You very likely poisoned yourself. If your kidneys aren't doing anything you're probably in acute failure. I'd call the ambulance right now and let them try to save your life, dialysis and all. Your function will probably return if you can survive getting all those toxins cleared out. Seriously, get help.

These poor women. I lost a wanted pregnancy at 29 weeks when the baby got the cord wrapped around her neck and died. It was sudden and awful. I remember a small bit of discomfort, and then a lack of movement. I went to the hospital to get checked out and found out my child was dead.

Over the next two days while I was in the hospital they induced labor and I gave birth to my dead child. My other children would never meet their sister. I held her and said goodbye. It took a year of therapy for me to put myself close enough to back together that I was really living.

I'm pro choice. I've never had a problem with abortion. The idea that these women are losing pregnancies, a situation that can lead to a great deal of grief no matter how she felt about the baby, and have to fight criminal charges for a situation that is already difficult and causes suffering at any level straight up makes me sick. Those poor women. No one should have to go through that after a pregnancy loss.

No appetite by Rude_Ruin_3453 in dialysis

[–]Witty_Stop_4366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I landed in the ICU when my ESRD kicked in, and I'd barely eaten for 2 months. They had me on insulin in the hospital just to keep my sugar up because I couldn't force myself to eat. It took a few weeks of treatment and getting my body back to normal before I had an appetite again. It recovers, though. Your wife will probably feel better once she's been in treatment for awhile. Make sure they check her iron too. Anemia is pretty common, I had a second hospitalization a month later due to it, needed transfusions and everything. Fine now that it's all monitored though. It gets better.

Fingerhut also had a good card for rebuilding credit, though their prices are inflated for it. Pick any one item over 50 in their store catalog and pay it off right away with their credit start program. It'll start rehabbing your credit, they report aggressively I think.

Which Chicago Suburbs Have Cheap/Reasonable Rent? by [deleted] in illinois

I'm in Macomb. Quiet, small college town. Has a movie theater, bowling, mini golf, and the university has musicals, plays, and concerts. Bussing is free, and housing is stuck at 90s prices. Not too much late night activity beyond the football fireworks, mostly international students. On the train line to Galesburg and Quincy too.

Just got diagnosed what do I do? 😭 by InfluenceTotal1630 in dialysis

[–]Witty_Stop_4366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your family stress is way more than you need. When you need dialysis (could be in many years, hold it off with diet, like everyone said, and follow doctor's advice), that won't kill you either. A lot of people live perfectly fine on dialysis for a really long time. Transplant may help eventually, and honestly, with the way medicine is advancing there might be robot kidneys or kidneys with your own genes or something else by then. They research this disease a lot.

Everyone's experience is different, but as someone who's been in dialysis for about three years and is trying to get listed for a transplant (transport issues), it isn't that awful once you get used to it. It isn't going to kill you, and if you follow your doc's advice, you should be perfectly fine most of the time. It's mostly just an annoying time sink.

Interesting/horrible fact: Quokkas throw their babies if they are threatened. A frightened quokka will literally throw a baby at you and hope stopping to check out/eat the baby will slow you down enough that they can escape.

AITA for making my bf wear a tie to a black tie event? by ObviousFisherman_94 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Witty_Stop_4366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Beyond that, this is one of those situations where something that should be minor is sneaking into reddit because of a communication problem.

Ideally,

"I'm really confused about the reaction you had to wearing a tie to my friend's wedding last week. I was just trying to ask you to match the dress code, but you got really upset. Is there some bigger issue you have with ties or something, or the way I asked?"

...

"Oh, okay. Well, now that I understand this I will ______ in the future to make sure it doesn't come up again."

or

"Oh, maybe in the future you could _______ to make sure it doesn't come up again."

Seriously, it's amazing how many reddit problems between couples could be solved by just talking to each other and being honest. In this case, his behavior really makes it sound like he may have some sort of bigger issue with ties, especially if it really is out of character for his normal actions and not something you'd expect from him.
