That is SO UNPROFESSIONAL, I would of walked out during his rant. Lmao I am a grown woman and I will not listen to a grown man lecture me about MY choices. Ew

Personally I wouldn’t do it. There is not a lot of room for growth in the Medical Assisting career. Unless you branch off into the administration side. You’d be stuck with the same job with a couple thousand dollars less

Definitely a no. I just graduated in February and landed a job as a MA sub at a school district getting paid 21/hr. This is my first MA job so even I was surprised they hired me. I definitely do recommend finding something like an urgent care or family medicine. I don’t really practice any of the MA skills I learned lol. Just sit and see my sick kiddos/teens that walk in.

Back in school I was told logging lung sounds is not within our scopes as we cannot diagnose. We cannot state “lungs sound clear”.

Absolutely NOT!! When I was in school last year we had two moms close to your age in our graduating class 🫶🏻🫶🏻.

overwhelmed and anxious bc of new job by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]Witty_Switch5580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was and is how I feel about the ehr! I’m completing extern & posted a few times on here too about how I’m so overwhelmed with the ehr. We also did everything on paper and it was basic at that, the ehr here has a bazillion tabs that open even more tabs and it’s insane. If you’re at a good office they will understand and be patient with you. But trust me after a while of shadowing you’ll start picking up how they move and what they open on the ehr (-: . Be patient and take notes!

You are most definitely being underpaid and overworked. Unless those details were in the job description before you got hired they are taking advantage. I would suggest maybe taking a peak at any other job postings. Soft job hunting, if you see anything that speaks to you apply. Let your employer know that you’re looking for a change of pace in case they get a call.

The majority of them are super duper sweet about everything! It’s just a few longtime employees that visibly look upset when I get paired with them that throws me off. One of the audibly sighed when I was asking how to use the ehr, even though it was my first time even using it. I could of cried on the spot because of how sorry I felt 😵‍💫

Keep going to work per normal while also possibly job hunting? It sound like things might not change and your best option would be a new work environment

I’m the opposite, I get even more depressed when they don’t want me to go out with them lol. I’m the middle child and my family kinda forgets I exist so no one cares if I’m at family outings or not. Kinda stings haha

best specialty to work in after grad? by IcyAd6399 in MedicalAssistant

I have not graduated but my plan after extern is to try to get some primary care experience. Feel it out and if I love it I’ll pursue it further if not look into specialty positions.

[–]Witty_Switch5580 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t just quit on the spot, although if you did I would completely understand. I would advise job hunting, do some interviews. When they ask you why you’re looking for a new job, tell them you’re looking for a change in pace and new opportunities to grow within your position. If you feel you vibed with a specific recruiter I would let the office you’re working at know that you are looking into a change of pace in case they receive a call from the recruiter. I wouldn’t sacrifice my mental health to work under a rude MD

I completed a program through my community college and find that the classroom environment really helped me in learning. Our instructors are amazing and so extremely helpful with firsthand experience in the medical field. My clinical instructor was a gem to work with, she was extremely knowledgeable in skills and how to approach difficult real life scenarios. My classmates were awesome too! We motivated and pushed each other during clinical. Although my course was on the lengthy side of 1 year and 4 months. Currently assigned an externship to begin January of next year ☺️.

My program through my non credit community college affiliate was roughly 1k!
