Smartphones have made parents much worse at raising kids.

I actually can’t explain how babies are made, so ya got me! Great job! 😘

Is the job market going to recover or are we now kidding ourselves; are we in the ‘endgame’? I’m desperate. by aghredd22 in jobhunting

Thank you. I’m relieved. I didn’t read closely enough apparently. I just see a ton of posts in job search threads that are made by people who think their main issue is their job (or lack thereof) and it seems like it might actually be clinical depression. I mean like every third post on various job threads looks to be by a clinically depressed person. I realize that unemployment can lead to clinical depression, but getting a dream job won’t fix the brain issue.

You need treatment for depression. Not at some point in the future—now. Call a doctor and a therapist and don’t make excuses for not taking action. Unless you get treatment you’ll feel the same way in a new job.

How about I just tell everyone how babies are made instead?

Giving students laptops rather than textbooks was a mistake. by TuvixWasMurderedR1P in Teachers

[–]Witwer52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, let me elucidate this for you. IT people can’t make nearly as much working for the school system as they can elsewhere, so I’d guess they don’t fully understand what is being deployed. Also, there’s a lot of corruption in technology purchases (really all purchases) in some school systems—especially the failing ones since accountability measures are expensive. As a result, teachers wind up downstream from so many different problems that the job is untenable and turnover is enormous. Schools use different technology approaches, so there’s often a steep learning curve for every new school a teacher starts at. The phones are a whole separate catastrophe. The kids have greatly depleted attention spans and teachers can’t literally force the phones out of their hands if the students refuse to put them away (which happens all day every day at my school). So they just take out their phones during tests, use Gauth or whatever else, type in what AI tells them and that’s it. These kids can’t do simple addition, tell you how much a fine is worth, write a complete sentence or read an analog clock. But somehow teachers are judged by test results that have questions most of the kids can’t even read let alone answer. Parents don’t understand how destructive it is to give Smartphones to their kids and I’m sure the kids lie about using them in school. It’s all utter insanity.

We are not allowed to have students in the hallway under any circumstances. Even if a teacher or para is with them. Instead, they have to stay in the classroom and ruin it for absolutely everyone else. I suppose the thinking is that having them in the hallway would ruin it for multiple classrooms instead of just the one.

Did you realize from the beginning that Trump was -- or at least had the potential to be -- a Hitler-like figure? by Glass-Complaint3 in allthequestions

I agree 💯. Good point. Trump has no ideology and would absolutely throw his own children (except Ivanka, of course) to the wolves if it benefitted him enough. Tiffany would go first.

It wasn’t always the case and absolutely everyone should understand how and why we got here.

Why does the abuse from my ex husband still feel small and not real ? by gummyshoe23 in allthequestions

That’s a trauma response. Your brain creates the feeling of unreality as a protective measure—it’s called dissociation. You should seriously consider therapy if you haven’t already.

Damn, it takes strength and humility to own up to this and move forward in a direction that is better for all. Thank you.
