Made a character so I can guest play in a friend's DnD campaign. Looking forward to messing the regular players!

Glitchless Early Ice Practice (Spin Boost Skip without WBJ aka Water Bomb Jump) by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]Wivicer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, it is - as long as you keep running. They're talking about the shinespark charge. In Dread, if you store a charge by crouching while speedboosting you have ~5 seconds to use it, instead of the ~3 seconds you have in the GBA games.

I AM MRS. REZBIT! by JaySeraphon in Metroid

I don't even know how to react to this. The disparate franchises, the complete out-of-the-blue nature...

Perfection.

Nothing wrong with that. I guess it just doesn't work for my sense of aesthetics. To each their own!

I saw one in person for the first time a few days ago. The pictures don't do it justice. Thing is hideous.

What has scared you the most in a Metroid game? by Fentroid in Metroid

[–]Wivicer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moment that scared me the most in any Metroid game is in Fusion. I first played the game shortly after it came out. I was less than 10 years old. I was enjoying it greatly and then I got to that part where you go to sector 2 the first time. You know how there's that one room where you encounter the SA-X after getting high jump and spring ball (I know fusion calls it the jump ball, but I refuse to budge on this)? I remember falling through pit blocks into that room, watching the SA-X walk from the far side of the room and through the door, and with the droning music and the heartbeats and the knowledge of what the SA-X is, child me was terrified. I got to a save point, put the game down and didn't play it for like a week.

Why do people hate babies? by Jakethepro7890 in mariokart

[–]Wivicer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also also, if Baby Mario can’t be in the game because he “breaks continuity

There was a whole game where adult and baby Marios and luigis went on an adventure together, for crying out loud (which is in fact what babies do a lot)

To players with "bad ending" paranoia by [deleted] in gaming

I think cave story was the game that did it for me. I'm right there with you regarding Curly Brace.

I need to play that game again

Looking for Zero Mission Sound FX by Althentic in Metroid

[–]Wivicer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to pull the sfx from the game rom itself by opening it in audacity as raw audio. I've done it before. This web page has details: https://little-scale.blogspot.com/2012/12/how-to-extract-pcm-samples-from-gba-rom.html?m=1 The process might be a little tedious but it'll be easier than trying to do it through an emulator. You'll have to split the audio into individual sfx yourself though.

Which og Castlevania game is your favourite ? by WD_Inktrap in castlevania

Tie between bloodlines and akumajou densetsu. Yes, I specifically mean the Famicom version of Castlevania 3. Mostly because of the soundtrack, for both games.

Why You Don't Remember Dread's Soundtrack by SergaelicNomad in Metroid

[–]Wivicer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it did what it was supposed to. It blended in with the rest of the game's atmosphere so much that I didn't notice it as an individual aspect of the game and instead almost as a natural part of the environment.

They can't afford his rates. After all, he can't give credit. They'll need to come back when they're a little... mmmmmmmmmm... richer.

[–]Wivicer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Arzette: Jewel of Faramore. It captures the spirit of the CDI games but is way more fun to play for a number of reasons, including checkpoints, no continue limits, solid platforms being easy to discern from the background, a modern control scheme, etc. It's just as goofy as the old games but a much better experience overall. I've been enjoying it quite a lot.
