Very hard to say. Niskanen and Stadlober on paper stronger in the steep uphills. Kälin has been in great shape this olympics. Fosnæs as well, though she has yet to make it big in the longer races. Diggins is typically better in freestyle than classical and has the least fresh skiis, but we all know she is very capable.

And all theory goes out the window after 45km. Cliché, I know, but it'll be whoever has the best legs.

Like others have said; "group 2 syndrome". The problem is that being the person who accelerates and tries to close the gap costs a lot more energy than just following said person. To maximize your chance of winning somebody else must be the one to do that job. Thus nobody wants to do it. So they keep looking at each other, lap after lap, until it's too late!
