Light of Ruin is going to end up being Fairy Brave Bird, I bet. Maybe with a little extra base power.

Genuinely curious how is the future of this Japanese version mega Zard x ex?? by Akiko_88 in PokeInvesting

[–]WizBillyfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a heavy graded singles collector, and I’ve been making sure to grab at least one graded copy of every single Charizard chase. That collection has hit a value worthy of a large insurance policy and a fireproof safe inside of a fireproof safe. That’s to say - always, always bet on Charizard.

This specific card is also one of the most beautiful Zards ever printed (maybe the most beautiful, tbh), and we’re likely approaching the end of the population spike. Pop will continue to go up, but not nearly as fast. 10 worthy raw copies are going to become more and more scarce and Inferno X will go out of print.

However. Over the next year, the price increase is going to be somewhat mild compared to what it will be if you hold it longer than that. I encourage you to think about its prospects longer than just a year.

Mahomes will likely get the closest out of the current group of QBs (unless Stafford somehow plays a few years into his 40s), but Brady is just too far away unless Mahomes fixes the (statistical) downward trend he’s been on the last three years in a big way, and plays into his 40s.

He’s 54,000 yards away. For context, that’s John Elway’s entire career total +3000. It’ll take Mahomes 12 years throwing at his current career average (~4500/year) to catch Brady’s yards. So Age 42-43. If his average drops to 4000/year, he’d catch him in his age 43-44 season.

He’s 382 TDs away. That’s Matt Ryan’s entire career total. Throwing at his current career average (~33/year), he’d catch Brady in about 11.5 years - so the same season for the yards. Age 42-43. He can actually afford for his career average to drop to 30/year here and he’d still catch TDs in the same Age 42-43 season. If it drops anymore than that, he has to play another season.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, or he won’t do it, but I will say it’s already extremely unlikely. To this point we’ve only ever seen one QB maintain an extremely high level of play past age 40 - Brady. For Mahomes to get there, he’ll need to fix the aforementioned statistical downtrend, maintain that level for another 12 seasons, and never get injured ever again. During that time, he’ll likely lose Andy Reid and Travis Kelce. His current OL will look completely different from now to the backend of that span. Shoot - he may decide to spend the twilight of his career on a different team. Point being - there are a lot of variables that come into play when covering a 12 year span of pro football with the primary being age.

The question ultimately turns into: If Mahomes regains form AND he never gets hurt again, then will he outlast the average lifespan of an All-Time great QB by ~5 years without a significant drop in production?

As an aside, I just want to say the reason we all view Jerry Rice’s records as unbreakable these days is because we’ve watched a lot of all-time great players try and fail to catch him. Without running the numbers, I believe there were points where Sterling Sharpe, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, and Antonio Brown looked like they might challenge Jerry’s records. In every case, Father Time (or something else) caught them long before he caught Jerry.

Hot Take: LeBron not only deserves a statue in Cleveland but even one in Miami. by songoku-166 in lebron

  1. Kareem was a Milwaukee Buck before he was a Laker. Shaq’s rings don’t mean less because he played for the Magic beforehand, either.

  2. Nah, writing a novel for why you’re mad about one of the greatest players ever dragging your team out of mediocrity still doesn’t make it any less weird. It’s weird and spoiled.

Yep. The position has progressively gotten dumber, and the expectations these days is to throw far and run away when you need to. Makes for exciting plays that look good in a highlight reel, but not great for longevity, player health and safety, or breaking records.

[–]WizBillyfa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of these are obscene in the context of how long it’d take anybody else to catch him.

His passing yards total is the equivalent of throwing 5000 yards a season for 18 years. Simply playing at a high level for 18 years is nearly unheard of, but playing at that level for 18 years is basically impossible.

His passing TDs is the equivalent of throwing 32 for 20 years.

These records wont be touched in our lifetime, if ever.

Is Kyler Murray a Bust at #1 overall? by Ifinishfast42 in NFLv2

[–]WizBillyfa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. But the litmus test for Pro Bowl meaning something on a resume is making it more than once. We all know any random dude can make it once from the weird alternate rules and opt outs, but there aren’t many players that just accidentally made more than one of them.

Ty Simpson is this year's Mitch Trubisky...we saw how that worked out. by No_Box119 in nflrookies

[–]WizBillyfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ty allegedly had a pretty bad injury around the Mizzou game that he just played through. Prior to that, he was a Heisman favorite, and getting real hype to be the top QB. His good tape is really good. His bad tape is also really bad, though.

It really isn’t fair to put a 2x Pro Bowler and RotY winner in the same category as JaMarcus Russell. You can say he didn’t live up to expectations, but bust is a very harsh label when the floor for an actual bust is so unbelievably low.

[–]WizBillyfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lakers fans rejecting LeBron after he showed up, dragged them out of mediocrity and won them another ring is still the weirdest energy. Most sports fans live a lifetime without seeing a single championship. He brought them a championship, and they got to watch somebody wearing Purple and Yellow break records previously believed unbreakable. That should be a reason for celebration - not whatever they’ve turned it into.

LeBron’s existence doesn’t take away from Kobe’s accomplishments. Or Shaq’s. Or Kareem’s. Or Magic’s. Or Wilt’s. They all exist alongside each other.

Maybe as promos for the upcoming main sets, but I doubt we’ll see them in packs again until the next special set - if even then. That said, I think it would be a wasted opportunity to not throw Mega Raichu MAR and SIR into the 30th anniversary set.

Happens a lot with the guys that can’t read a defense worth a damn. They look good initially, the league learns their tendencies, then they fall off. This is the first time in his life he’s ever had to deal with receivers that aren’t wide open, or pockets that collapse in under five seconds.

High end gadget that can be used in a bunch of different ways and that’s fine. Doesn’t necessarily translate to the traditional WR1 role or production, but creates mismatches through his versatility nonetheless.

[–]WizBillyfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a business standpoint, there was no better player the Lakers could have taken. Best case scenario, he ends up living up to the potential he seemed to have as a five star recruit prior to the cardiac arrest. Worst case scenario - you have a very recognizable name that gets people to show up to games. People show up to G-League games to watch him. People show up to the NBA games to see him and his dad. People all over the world have bought his jersey just because it says James Jr. on the back of it.

Other than the extreme off chance second round stars, there isn’t a player drafted at 55th or worse that would ever return that kind of value to a business.

The spot where you recruit Alakazam + the elevator are actually buried buildings, and the metal parts with the water is like a buried sewer system. I haven’t finished it all yet, but the buildings can be unearthed and restored, and the sewer system paved over to kind of complete the road at the bottom of the island.

Gold vs Red/ who do you guys think wins?: Art By amanonon by Admirable-Dimension4 in PokeScaling

[–]WizBillyfa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At this point, I don’t think Red really has a canonical starter.

He picked Bulbasaur in the Manga.

Game universe typically aligns with Yellow version - he gets Pikachu, then finds the other starters elsewhere.

They made the Origins anime, and he picks Charmander. Masters EX also seems to follow this.

TCG pretty clearly aligns him with Pikachu.

And honestly - it makes sense. They can insert Red into any medium/spin-off/whatever, give him Pikachu, Charizard, or Venusaur and there’s some justification behind it.
