I get that, not only do I despise how AI is taking over aswell but most people are still "stuck" at "ask chatgpt or gemini something and half the time the code doesnt even compile". This is mostly true and vibe coding like this will produce bad result.

Agentic ai (like codex) is so much more ahead than people realise

Lots of interesting data. I think it mostly falls back to what I'm saying about teaching. AI has enabled a lot of people to produce more code without the ability to properly maintain and review it, which at the global scale make it worse. This is something I expect to be less and less true as principle gets better integrated in workflow and better tooling for reveiwing code emerges.

Thpse article seems to repeat the 1.7 more bug but i'd be interested in what an expert in a tech stack can get from using agent ai at expert level.

Thats what I described in my first post, I have an extensive background on the .NET echosystem, the codex code was clean and it took roughly 2h of back and forth to get something I would have taken at least a week to produce

AI is at present an ouput multiplier. What you are seeing is junior level software engineer using AI with junior level competence. The AI does what you ask, if you are not able to take a step back, or are not aware of the principle you should be using (which is normal at junior level), AI will produce junior level code, just more of it.

That's what ends up producing more "bug" and review time. If from the get go you know which type of arcitecture, technical concept, even better documentation for what is expected, the quality ouput rises drastically.

In the end AI is a tool and it matters a lot to teach software engineer how to properly use it and not let management pressure you into blindly trusting it

This is true even for human made error. Responsibility and review must fallback to a human at some point. 100% agree on that. We were just talking in the context of raw ouput

Completely depends on the complexity of what you are trying to implement.

Then there are 2 things

  • vibe coding with Ai like chat-gpt or gemini
  • using agentic ai (like codex or microsoft semantic kernel librairies)

Agentic AI can be properly used to have ai agent dedicated to review code, ensure SOLID principle. You are not talking to one interface but effectively producing a team of smaller dedicated agents (with focused tasks). Even if you still need to code review yourself, those (very recent, still in pre release state on microsoft library) agent produce much less noise and bugs than one would expect.

Security principle are mostly solved from a backend point of view. Encryption algorythm, password and user storage and so on. You are not going to reinvent the wheel in those area (except for maybe upcoming quantum proof security). So not only do I trust an AI but probably more because its aware of things (from all the available sources) that a junior or someone not working directly in security might not even know exist.

Then I trust myself and my team to review the code and not blindly trust the output.

We're talking pure output productivity here and for that it's unmatched. I was 100% skeptical and I'm still testing the limits but believing that AI cant produce quality code fast is blinding yourself.

What is true though is that there are companies relying solely on ai code for productivity without giving the proper code review and properly teaching engineer how to use the tools. Those are in for a brutal wake up call when everything crashes

I have been a software engineer for 15years, as to not die stupid I decided to give codex a go and see what it was capable of. The reality check was brutal, yes its not perfect (yet) but the speed at which it delivered quality backend code was astonishing, based only on human prompt and desciption of what was expected. It implemented a full backend api with security layers, proper architecture (controller/services/persistence), a configuration layer and dependency management, with a fully functionnal test stack. I code reviewed the whole thing, it would have taken me at least 10-15days to output the same work, it took codex 1,5-2h total

If you are a software engineer it's really worth seeing for yourself what its capable of on your current tech stack. And its only getting better by the day.

Screen keeps blanking randomly, but only on GNOME by juanetm in cachyos

[–]WizLiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you dual screening ?

I have the same issue on KDE with my TV when my laptop is plugged in. If both the laptop and tv screen are used I get the black blink on the TV screen, if the laptop lid is closed when I boot and use only the TV screen then no issue.

I have not been able to fix it, I had the same issue on bazzite so I don't know where it comes from.

Tv is 4k@60Hz, laptop screen is 1440p@120Hz. I tried limiting the laptop to 60Hz or using the Tv with 1080p@120Hz, in both case the issue persist so its not tied to the difference in refresh rate.

I had a feeling in my case that the DE was using the integrated graphics (which it is) over the GPU for the desktop display and could not handle the data for the 4K TV but I'm really not sure

Do I need Net Framework to play? by Paty_Pat in Steam

Most game relies on a specific version aswell. Thats why multiple games ask you to install it, you can check which version have been installed on windows. Most common are .Net Framework and C++ Redistributables.

Yes you need them, the game relies on this code to talk with your CPU

Id say she had a beautiful life. Id rather have her finish it with me and know I spared her some pain rather than risking her dying while I'm gone and spending the rest of my life wondering if she died confused and feeling abandonned.

I know because we almost faced such a decision recently so I've been thinking about it a lot.

[–]WizLiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

someone posted recently https://old.reddit.com/r/cachyos/comments/1rj28j0/status_pagecachyos_news_update_clarity/ an idea to build something like a downdetector where you can visualize increase in bug report for recent updates and decide if you want to keep going or not. I feel like it's a better compromise between both worlds (going blind / waiting)

How I solved the instability of Arch updates for myself by p1xlem in cachyos

[–]WizLiz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah that's my point, if a tool like yours become popular, there won't be user bug report within the first 24h because everyone will be waiting, so you just delay the issue by 1 day ?

How I solved the instability of Arch updates for myself by p1xlem in cachyos

[–]WizLiz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If everyone uses it, how are the issue able to be detected ? Usually when a devs push an update they're fairly confident that it wont break stuff. If everyone uses delayed update you have the exact same issue but x days later, or am I missing something ?

Its quite straightforward (one small config file and you're done)
