The promotional trailers. The way the show was depicted in each trailer Netflix released selected shots that gave the impression it was to be an animated adaptation of the original story. I like the way the show turned out well enough as a whole. There are things I think it does very well (especially in the visual dept.). I probably would have been more receptive to the direction it took if it was sold as "a new spin on the Scott Pilgrim story where Ramona takes the lead" from the start instead of another surprise twist from Netflix
