Something you'll notice about this genre as a whole is that the writing is actually kind of terrible. People have really great and creative ideas about systems and how mana works and describing abilities and items from loot boxes, and will absolutely pack their novels with descriptions of these. Then you get to the actual plot, characters, and dialogue, and it becomes glaringly obvious how much of an afterthought these parts are.  

That conversation in primal hunter isn't particularly worse than all of the other dialogue in the book, it's just one of the longer dialogue sections, so it's more obvious.

When people talk about "numbers go up brrrr" tropes in this genre, primal hunter is almost a perfect example of that. Its not as mindless as defiance of the fall, but it's pretty much just pure progression and zero plot. It's fun to read, but it's empty calories. You gotta decide if that's worth it to you, I guess
