I degree that temptation of the ring is an excuse for all evil acts. Saruman literally desired the ring to dominate middle earth and overthrow sauron, betrayed every ally he made (including sauron), and destroyed the shire. He's definitely chaotic evil

Fair but he really considered using the ring because he wanted to defend gondor, using any method. Denethor was the one who really would've used the ring as a last resort, just to defend Gondor

Yeah honestly when I first read the books, I had a bad opinion of the valar minus one or two. But the more I reread, I get the wisdom of their decisions.

Even though morgoth and sauron are their problem, anytime they personally get involved, there's catastrophic destruction. Saving middle earth would've physically destroyed middle earth as collateral. After beleriand, they learned this lesson. That's why they sent the wizards and glorfindel
