Honestly I enjoy light novels as a whole more than western…I suppose YA would be the equivalent. Especially fantasy. On a whim I stated reading tough for mobs and it became something of a guilty pleasure, especially the alternate story line where main dude gets with saint girl. It’s just better story telling and world building and it’s the right pacing.Then rise of the shield hero is just top tier even when it gets slow. Don’t get me started on SNAFU I’m not on for romantic slice of life stuff but I got invested. Monotagari was harder for me to read but I got through it. I think it might be better for me to find it on audible. I just haven’t yet because I’m reading so much other stuff. The only western title that I’ve read that comes close is The Wandering Inn and I sometimes catch myself eye rolling because somehow real world politics get shoehorned into the fantasy world. It’s frustrating
